Can we expect for PTRs to drop in price slightly come Trump?
I only recently started looking at BRs, but it was before election was in full swing, and I don't remember them going above 1 grand like they are right now.

Oh, is it one of the old CETMEs? That's pretty much just as bad.

Whats the best site? Looking primarily at Atlantic, but obviously peeked at Gunbroker/Armslist as well.
It does look like Atlantic just dropped the GI to 960 and have it 30$ off for 930 right now, which isn't too bad, but some other variants are still above the grand mark.

Yeah, I know. This one looks great except for the rough cocking tube/charging handle.

So, I'm getting conflicting answers on best barrel length for a semi auto .308. It ranges everywhere from 16-26". General use will be sub 1K yards hunting, and I'd like it to be able to consistently hold 2" groups or better. Which makes me think I should go 20". Thoughts?
>>
>>32715444
.308 isnt going to be what I go for over 400. Too much rainbowing. Longer barrels will get you more velocity which will stretch that out, but if you going with .308 over 6.5mm, your not trying to get to a 1000 really.

Barrel length has nothing to do with groups.

What rifle is this for?

16-18".
>consistently hold 2" groups or better.
I'm assuming you mean 2MOA or better. Barrel length doesn't affect accuracy much beyond a certain length. What matters is rigidity; you want the barrel to flex as little as reasonably possible. A shorter, heavy bull barrel for your purposes.
>>
>>32715485
>>32715518
Barrel is going onto a 308AR build. Decided on 308 over 6.5 because 6.5 seems to shine at longer ranges and I won't be taking a 700+Yd shot.
>>32715506
> Sub 1k yds.
Did you miss the "SUB" part?
>>
>>32714542
I have one, what would you like to know? If you're looking for something to use right out of the box, I'd have no problem recommending one if you could snag it around ~$1,700. For 2k, it really doesn't do anything special to justify the price vs. just building what you want from the get-go. The modular gimmick isn't really something I'm too concerned about, as I have several AR-15 rifles and lowers, as such I haven't even opened the conversion kit.

Anybody interested in this FAL scope mount? I accidentally bought the longer one, but it won't fit because I have a Congo model with the carry handle. It's just the mount and the screws, the little sleeves that go inside to secure it are mine to keep and you'll have to order your own.

They have been the go to for poverty optics for awhile. Good arrangements with whichever Asian country makes them.

And magnifiers are clunky as fuck, and not really all that for making red dots into ACOGs. Especially since low price 1-whatever optics got the glass and turrets to be not awful.

Not much of a battle if you can't get the ammo from your supply mole.

Should I trust another gunsmith to finish my FAL's, or finish them myself?
The way I see it, if the gunsmith fucks up, they will probably be able to repair it or compensate me, but I will have to pay out the nose
because California
If I do it myself, it will cost less, but then I have no 'safety net' if I fuck up something, and with where I live it's not like I can easily get any replacement parts- especially quality receivers.

Finish as in assembly or as the exterior coating?

Is the barrel timed and headspaced?
>>
>>32729446
Assembly. The barrels are hand tightened only, but at the proper 11 o'clock position.
Needs to be headspaced, but everything else is okay. Will not be refinishing them, they are a DSA/ Imbel build and the original finish is acceptable.
>>
>>32729503
Sending off to be headspaced might not be a terrible idea. Its a fairly straightforward affair asides from that. Certainly saves the tools needed.

I've come to learn it only bothers you if it bothers you. People might say it should bother you, but if it doesn't good for you.
I have a S&W 586, no Hillary Hole. Some people say that it should bug me I don't have a Colt Python or Mateba 2006M. It doesn't. If I could exchange it for one of them but never sell or trade it I wouldn't. I like this gun. Now if it had a fucking lock hole, that would bother me. So I got one that doesn't. That doesn't matter to some people, so they just grab a new one and it doesn't bother them one bit. That's all good for them. Some will look down on them but if there's no reason for them personally to care then they are for all intents and purposes on top of the world.
So what bothers you, anon? Anything about the gun or just what someone else might think about it?

If you're indecisive, you'll be able to make the AR10 into a better rifle. The HK91 will be a good rifle but will be more fun to shoot.
>>
>>32743146
I'm glad you asked; the value in all of this is multifaceted, but a major advantage is being able to funnel dosh into ONE lower and then be able to use that investment in more calibers. I've already found partial lowers with no buttstock or trigger group. You could possibly even do a "pistol" setup, though I won't.

You may very well still cycle 5.56 with the heavier tube too, people in /arg/ run crazy heavy ones.
>>
>>32744077
Depends where your gas system is at.
But how much money are you going to "pour" into a lower. Its a lower.

Id rather have a better .308 barrel than what colt makes. Not have to use adapters.

I get the allure of the 901, when I found out about it, I was doing just what your doing. But there is no do everything rifle.
>>
>>32744150
You're not really saying what's wrong with it.
>>
>>32744203
That your going to have an inferior .308 and a heavy .223 gun.

Your going to have unique small parts, that are required for the conversion. I couldn't find the adapter plates for sale by themselves, and colt isnt exactly in a stable place right now economically.

Its an interesting idea, that has merit, but its not refined enough to really use at the moment, imo

I was thinking (completely hypothetically) a good battle rifle may be the ideal civilian rifle for SHTF/civil war/other shit/violent LARPing. Considering how you dont have the ammo supplies of an army you need to make few precise shots, might as well make them hit harder. Not to mention a civvie doesnt have air support so having a .308 will allow you to reach out further.

In true SHTF fashion, I would grab only my ar.

With my AR I can take everything from pheasants to elk. I can carry more ammo. It's lighter and less encumbering on those 30+ mile days into the wilderness. I can make more accurate shots from any position other than prone enough to off set the accuracy gained. Any shot over 500 meters would ultimately be unnecessary as I could sneak closer or escape. With all these trade offs the only thing I'm giving up is: humane kills on large game, instead of 500 meters I could now reach out to 600-700 meters, but my skill is ultimately going to be the limited factor between that.

i've got a 30 round weld together mag and a 30 round south african and i've had more issues with the south african so yeah. bare in mind, the most important part of a mag in terms of reliability in a semi auto is the spring and as long as the spring is new it should be fine.

With what ammo?
>>
>>32750486
Like I'm out of ammo? Or which ammo would I use? Fmj all day if that's what you're asking and with the ammo sitting in my gun room if that's what you're asking. Admittedly I don't have any stockpiled and only have a few hundred rounds.

>carry twice as much ammo
>need twice as much ammo
.308 is where muh ONE SHOT STOP rifle stats start. Could be because people always double tap 5.56 just in case but that's conjecture.
Reaching out and touching is important in SOME areas. Mostly places like Wyoming where you can't very well sneak across open plains and running away just makes you die tired.
Of course then the guy with a .50 is god, but he's lugging a 30lb rifle. So really it's all about what tradeoffs (You) are willing to make, as usual.

You think your going to get humane shots, on elk, with .223, using FMJ ammo, at 500 yards?

With empty fields around where I live you're SOL when trying to advance, so best to to have the greater range.

Miata was a lot of fun, drove a few into the ground. In Vegas, they go for under 1k, but they're pretty beat. Enjoying a jeep now, better for the desert.

my DD is an 04 Honda CRV, and ive wanted a wrangler for shits and giggles for a while. ive just gotta get a better paying or another job and stay away from money pits like women before I have my little collection of 80s and 90s gook cars.

I wanted to get into skeet, trap, cowboy and long range shooting, so im trying to decide if a car or guns will make me happier and what ill spend more time with.
