You will get many people arguing about the effectiveness of a 22 mangnum as an effective self defense round. It would not be my first choice that is for certain.

For me the best handgun depends a lot on the job you are doing, a wonder 9 is the gun I would take for everything (probably a 92fs or maybe a CZ/clone of some kind, oh hell chuck a USP in there).

CZ 75 is truly the patrician's choice.

If you really need a nickel-plated sissy pistol then a Mak is a very good choice, the size is optimal for CC and the additional weight makes sure you get the best control for 9x18 so you won't miss that 17 round extendoclip

There's nothing "wrong" with them but they aren't ideal for CC. It's rimfire ammo, mags can be finicky, lots of snag points, and it's overall size make it a poor choice. Great for a trail gun if you're worried about snakes or something though.

22mag was not designed for the short barrel. Most 40 gr load only go about 1450-1500 fps. Also not considered reliable enough for CCW. It's also large. I had one, and it was a favorite at the range. But I would rather have 9 or .45/10mm even at less than half the capacity. Put it this way, with life's many variables, if a meth head wants to attack you, and you have to kill him, do you want the little 22 with a rather large mag, or 9-45 with 7-15 rounds? It's the same size. It's a great gun, just not ideal for CCW.

Only gripe is the reliability of rimfire, both in feeding and firing. Rimlock would suck when you need to shoot. Rimfire is more likely to not ignite than centerfire.

I've never handled one, so I can't say anything about the gun itself. Light is only useful if its still strong enough not to break, so how rugged is it?

While on the lower end of the spectrum, 22 mag is potent enough, and 30 rounds of it is more than enough for just about any circumstance you are likely to come across.

PMR-30 is budget Five-Seven, basically. Whether or not either of those is a good idea for a carry gun is the question.

in my case, it would be a pistol, in 9x17 (probably), either a beretta 84fs or a bersa thunder .380 plus

also like revolvers, and if i were to carry one i would have either a s&w m10 or a taurus m82, both 3 inch and bobbed hammers (trigger work done if i felt like so).
