After WW1 and WW2 you could pick up a mauser, SMLE, or nugget for peanuts. It made sense to sporterize one if you didn't need all that extra wood and support for shooting a deer. Besides, It doesn't count as Bubba'ing it if all I have to do is re-blue it and replace the grips

I read an article about Trump's second amendment coalition he is creating, and one of their goals was to knock down the 1989 import ban, so Norinco might be able to start bringing in pistols and I could get one for like, half the price. I think this could be a project for this summer, because if Trump makes it 6 months without coming through on that, it probably isn't gonna happen any time within the next year or so.

Price seems kind of high for a Mak. Should be able to get one closer to $200 or a bit over. Then again, I haven't been checking prices in a while.

I typically like the copper or bronze look on a gun, but I'm not sure I like the two tone. I'm not saying do the whole gun in copper either.

I'd say do your controls, trigger, mag release, slide release, and hammer, in copper. Tumble them a bit to get the desired wear on them. It should give you some color and contrast without being obnoxious.

Copper is a soft metal that will be easily scratched and chipped. Not to mention that proper plating is more difficult than Jewtube videos will have you believe.

If you're really going to waste a perfectly good pistol on this, use a Zastava M70A instead. Not only is it cheaper than the Makarov, but I think it is more in line with the aesthetics you are seeking. Pic related

Most cleaning oils contain chemicals that break down copper so I would think it would be a really bad idea unless you want to put it on a shelf in a climate controlled box and just look at it

As long as you take care of it, you can prevent it from turning green. I really only see the green coloration on copper that's constantly exposed to water. Even if you don't like how it' tarnishing, you can polish it up fairly easily in a variety of ways - either a polishing creme, fine grit sandpaper, steel wool, or even one of those "rust erasers" that they make for carbon steel kitchen knives.
