The Sniper from CE could penetrate as many enemies as you could line up. Depending on the difficulty and enemy it could kill in one shot.

Hell the flood were kind of invincible to the rounds because the velocity would rip right through their flesh without doing much damage just like Tiger Tanks punching through Shermans. The round was too fast to be effective because those enemies didn't feel pain and it didn't have the necessary punch.

It was only ever 'bad' in the first halo. And by bad I mean it had dogshit accuracy at range during full auto. If you do very short controlled bursts though you should be able to hit whatever you're aiming at. I have the paperback trilogy boxset. Can confirm, they're pretty good, and quick reads. The two Eric Nylund ones are the better of the three. Although I did think it was cool how Dietz tried to portray the Covenant's perspective, and Halo: The Flood is by no means a bad book, just slightly less engaging than Nylund's.
