Yeah... This bugged me too.
Both sides in the film jump out of their cover only to get mowed down in a very comedic fashion, almost akin to Rocky blocking punches with his face.
Plus the film had a very bad case of No-Reload-No-Recoil syndrome that many films with firearms are infamous for.
Such a shame considering that the real Desmond Doss put off ever giving permission for a bio pic to be made about his military career because none of the directors/producers wanted to show the truth and only the truth. Mel Gibson over sensationalized, over dramatized, and flat out made his own unique character whose portrayed life wasn't anything like the real Desmond Doss.
>>
>>32692187
Are there even any new movies with realistic combat? It seems like all of them being released have this same shlock with soldiers going through knee-deep gore and mud, charging forwards for what seems like miles, blindly firing at enemies that jump out of cover conveniently in front of them, no matter when or where they're fighting.

Not really, because realistic combat in film would be boring as hell and depressing to watch.
Even Saving Private Ryan, that was high renowned for it's combat scenes, was pretty over the top for the most part.
>>

that's a documentary you fucktard, a shitty "muh feels" one at that.

The most egregious scene in the movie was when Doss was dragging Vince Vaughn behind him on a blanket while he fired an M3. What the fuck was Mel even thinking?

And the Pacific Theater is so deserving of proper treatment (Pacific was great in the execution of Pieleileu and Okinawa, fell short on Iwo Jima).

War movies now have taken a step backwards, back into the realism of the 70s, except now there's just way too much mindless, cringey gore and CGI.

I've got some in my house, I'm no body-builder but I can pick them up with a good amount of effort. However, wrapping it in cloth wouldn't be a fair comparison. Weight distribution makes the corpse a lot easier to pick up than the dumbbell, with or without a shirt

I kept a most severe diet, and after the filming was over I returned to school not only thin, but grey-haired."[9] The 2006 UK DVD sleeve states that the guns in the film were often loaded with live ammunition as opposed to blanks, for realism. Is one of the best, but lately a lot of Russian cinema will include Hollywood-esque over the top action sequences. 9th Company is alright (if unrealistic, the actual guys who were in 9th company were nowhere near in as bad a situation as the film depicted) and if its available there's a couple films on Chechnya that were pretty good. I dont think people are getting the point hat the movie is supposed to be stylised. Considering we have relatively realistic movies depicting the European theatre that are very gritty, how do you show off how much more gritty the fighting on the Pacific theatre
To this I have to give Mel a lot of credit as he starts off seeming realistic, but as soon as the ridge itself is introduced the movie becomes surreal. The ridge is depicted as if it were hell itself, and the rope ladder is repeatedly shown as if it were a portal into some otherworldly nightmare place

"Boйнa" is a story of a Russian POW and a British prisoner, which were released from Chechen labour camp to get ransom for the other British prisoner, inspired by a rl story of British prisoners in Chechnya.

Straight from wikipedia

>Brogues were traditionally considered to be outdoor or country footwear not otherwise appropriate for casual or business occasions (glorious Britain making sure the proletariat know their place), but brogues are now considered appropriate in most contexts (allowances being made for poor degenerate scum who can't dress themselves)

If the bullets penetrated that dead dudes body enough to dead him, why is his corpse suddenly impenetrable?

Cus if human bodies were that bullet proof, there would be no point in doing 'le epic human shield'

I think you mean declining. Reclining is what one does in his favourite armchair with his pipe and a whisky after recieving a proper gentlemans servicing from the town harlet.

Oh. I thought it was supposed to be good. I was actually looking forward to watching that. Well, I guess it's back to rewatching The Pacific instead, for the twentieth time. Jesus Christ, this makes Fury look realistic.

I'm just saying that it would at least draw some interest since most people I've talked to didn't even know Italy was in ww1

This movie is actually good, but if you prefer woman-grade soap operas go for it.

>actually good

I was already on the fence when I learned the protagonist is some sort of cultist who's willing to put the lives of his platoon mates and unit cohesion at risk by wanting to be a special pussy snowflake, and has a commander incompetent enough to put him on the front line instead of assigning him to the sanitation department for the remainder of the war. But from the reviews I still got the impression it at least had good, realistic action... Nope. I hope Mel Gibson soon dies from liver cirrhosis and no one has to watch his piece of shit anal theme park versions of historic events.

if that's what's in the movie then i guess its all lies. doss was a great man.

> "They begin to throw these hand grenades," recalled Desmond. "I saw it comin'. There was three other men in the hole with me. They were on the lower side, but I was on the other side lookin' when they threw the thing. I knew there was no way I could get at it. So I just quickly took my left foot and threw it back to where I thought the grenade might be, and throw my head and helmet to the ground. And not more than half a second later, I felt like I was sailin' through the air. I was seein' stars I wasn't supposed to be seein', and I knew my legs and body were blown up." The blast left 17 pieces of shrapnel embedded in Desmond's body, mostly in his legs
It was one grenade instead of two and it was during a hand-to-hand engagement, but if the thought of false-surrendering Nips is hard for you to believe GG I guess...
>>
>>32703088
Throwing or kicking grenades away isn't what makes that scene look retarded, unless there's a special type of Japanese frag grenade that shoots giant balls of flame but lacks any fragmentation that I haven't heard of.

Does OP need to go in the oven? Do you need to go in the oven, OP? I'll put you there. Mine takes about 5 minutes to warm up.
>>

Doss actually pulled some shit like that.
It's how he initially got wounded.

Then he got shot by a sniper after giving his stretcher to another wounded man. (Not in the movie).
>>
>>32708009
Not op. If Mel fucked up anything, it was by not telling the story accurately enough.

Doss was badass for real. He didn't need the Hollywood treatment.
>>
>>32705434

He phrased it wrong because your formulative years during it fucks you up as much as being born to a malnourished mother.

>>32707949

I liked how nasty the fighting felt in the last scene with the flamethrower. Not really even 'cinematic' in a hollywood scene the way say Band of brothers is but just like a real messy fucking brawl.

Posting best Pacific War movie
Soundtrack is killer too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF9_9MZyQGo

I love how it doesn't hold back on the brutality and savagery of the Japs, but still displays them as human beings as well, with two major characters being Japanese,
one of which is Beat Takeshi in one of his earliest roles, and he actually speaks broken English!!

Easily one of my favorite war movies of all time, right alongside Cross of Iron and The Odd Angry Shot.

The Odd Angry Shot (the original 1970's one). About the Australians in Vietnam, my father was spearhead company who supported the SAS in Belize during the Guatamala issues, saw it just after he left and was quite impressed with its depiction of jungle warfare.
>>
>>32709299
One of my favorites and I'm American. I love it when the characters feel like people.

>That entire Aussie-US drunken brawl over a scorpion beating a spider
One of my favorite scenes in a war film.
>>
I for one liked the fact that the movie Armorer did a good job. He got M1s with the correct WWII lockbar rear sights and actually had dust covers on the Type 38s, like they should be. Now if only they taught the actors to reload.
