I would glass all affected areas with low-fallout thermonuclear weapons (fusion only results in activated radionuclide). I would then quarantine and closely monitor with drones/aircraft. If small scale, gather weapons, food, water and survivors and head for the nearest nuke silo/air force base or hardened bunker. Weld and tripwire any vents or access points big enough for them to get in, wait it out. If they get through the main door, keep falling back through blast doors, have the last stand room wired to a detonator along with major support structures throughout the bunker so at least if we go down we take a lot with us.

If large scale i.e full on war and I was somehow in command;
Air strikes, gunruns and drone strikes on any large horde seen in the open. Try and evacuate the major cities and disperse the civilian population to reduce massacres and bolstering the xenos ranks with our own hosts. Scorched earth tactics, hit and run raids from strongpoints like prisons and army bases. Hopefully there is only one Queen at a time, and she will at some point reach an efficiency cap in pushing out eggs, so if we can either hit her with a tactical nuke or kill more per day than she can spawn per day it could work. If that fails, revert to the other plan.

The problem, of course, is that humans aren't the only hosts for xenos.

A single nest in one of those mega cattle farms in South America would produce hundreds of millions of xenomorphs in just a month. And one nest doesn't stay one nest for long, either.
By the time enough evidence is gathered to actually warrant a military response, the problem would likely be out of any local military's ability to control.

The staggering level of inconsistencies makes them fruitlessly hard to reconcile with the main canon. The Aliens' gestation time is fucked, their resistance to firearms is fucked, their stature and combat abilities themselves are fucked, it's a massive fuckpile, and the ancient alien predators make it even worse, probably disregarded by Prometheus alone.

Aliens are weak to fire. It's sort of a running joke in all the films to say this, then never actually have an alien be subjected to fire because someone fucks up while using their flamethrower or fire bomb.

BTW, the Alien comics had a story where earth was infected by the aliens. The entire planet was overrun by the xenos, then retaken by a human invasion force put together from the various human colonised planets. The Predators watched the whole thing unfold on Predator TV and were very impressed by the humans. They even helped out a few of them in the xeno war while on hunting vacations.
