1:55 P.M. /k/

What magazines does /k/ read? Does /k/ avoid any?

Discuss, please.

=)
>>
We have our own dedicated Firearm magazine up here in Canada called Caliber.

We get gun mags from the states up here all the time, just nice to read something tailored a little more to our gun culture and issues.

Lot of the American mags really seem like Gun porn.. I just read for the articles
>>
I ain't read anything for years now, aside from the occasional American hunter.

I gave up mags becuase of all of the ads and them obviously being shills (like the c&r mags sucking mitchell's cock and giving their fake stamped guns a glowing review. Of course right, they take out full spread ads on every issue.

I always wonder why the fuck those yearly buyers guides are still being published though. Who the hell needs them now that you can just browse catalogs online?

fudds

If you work with computers all day or have eyes that struggle with blue light( I'm the latter ) it is worthwhile to just pay the extra for the paper catalogs, put on some jazz, grab a little brandy and sit on the toilet for a good read.
>>

I've enjoyed Recoil, but i only read it in the store because you can see hints here and there that they're closet liberals.

I enjoy American Rifleman whenever i find a copy, the "armed citizen" section is fun and it gives you a little update on new guns (all positive, like any "review" in this industry") and legal updates.
>>
>>32681694
I pick up firearm news to browse the catalogs. Don't know why, but it's more pleasant than browsing on the web. Not to mention it's great toilet browsing
>>
>>32682515
same
>>
>>32682515
This.
Shotgun News always as good shit and interesting articles in it. Plus it doesn't have slick pages so you can wipe your ass when you're done.
>>
>>32682446
Can you clarify a little more on Recoil being "closet liberal" please?

I read through their concealment issue just last week before passing it off to some friends and buying the five I posted in OP(>>32681694 ) five today.
>>
>>32681694
My favorite is probably small arms review.
>>
>>32683079
They posted an article a few years back about the MP7, and the author said something along the lines of 'no one needs an MP7'

You'll have to hit me with more than that to convince me. Think of it as your new /k/ommando mission.

>>
>>32683079

There was the issue with them saying it's a good thing no civilians are allowed to have the MP7

A recent issue i read they were carrying on about how they were "listening to the readers" who want "budget items" since every damn thing they usually review is retarded shit like 500 dollar sunglasses like they're GQ. I don't have a copy in front of me, but they just gave me the strong feeling they were journalists covering guns, not gun guys trying journalism.

Mission accomplished; anon(s). I am now interested in Guns & Ammo though; 12 issues for about $9.00 USD seems like a great price considering some of the magazines I showed in my pic were more than $9.00 USD an issue.
>>
>>32683384
I find Guns & Ammo to be really boring, I don't know why. My favorites are Small Arms Review and the Military Surplus ones.
>>
>>32681694
I have a fucking massive collection of old gun magazines from the late 70s-early 80s from my now ex gfs dad after he passed
>>
>>32681694
Recoil when I want to feel poor
>>
>>32682446
I just don't like them because they only seem to report on $2k+ ARs and $400 knives, neither of which are anything I'm going to be buying
>>
>>32683421
Must be painful to look through, seeing all the cool stuff you could get before the '89 import ban
>>
>>32683452
Oh dude you have no idea. Just all the cheap shit in general. The real gold are the ads and opinion pieces though. I saw a five page article on how 9mm will be dead in ten years, dated from 1982.

I also saw an ad to hire a mercenary

Anon-kun, could you buy me this?
>>
>>32683384

Shooting Illustrated recently became one of the (now four) magazines you can choose from with an NRA membership.

It's $30 for the 1 year NRA membership, but considering you also get a small duffel bag or pocket knife along with the magazine subscription of your choice it's not that bad.

You wont regret this
>>
>>32683597
I wish I could but I'm in the process of saving up for my first firearm right now. I bought the magazines as a way to help do some research without having to constantly hog board space from other /k/ommandos.

May I save your image, Anon-sempai?

>>32683632
Thanks for pointing that out. I had completely forgotten about the NRA( as I have to spend a lot of effort not-mentioning them to my liberal/gun disliking( yet gun-tolerant/second amendment supporting ) aunt, my sister's gun-grabbing/knife-hiding soon-to-be-husband and a few other family members who think of the NRA the way Christians think of the Anti-Christ. I really should look at what the NRA has to offer in the near future given I'll need some instructing in proper firearm care/safety.

>>32683647
I'll consider it.
>>
>>32683478
9mm has come a long way in 30 years.

I was flipping through a Guns Digest from 1984 and they had Clayco Sports AKs for $300, Steyr AUGs for $599, Galils being imported by Action Arms for $499.

It hurts.
>>
>>32683737

It would be extra fun to be able to whip out your membership card, in that case, to your faggoty friends and family.
>>
>>32683771
It would but I would also never get to see my nephew again along with any future kids she and her new man had and would be barred from family functions depending on who was throwing them/who was coming, etc. As things stand right now I've( at the very least ) been able to introduce the concept of knives/multitools to both my nephew and my sis's man and have managed to get them both interested in joining the Boy Scouts when the Nephew comes of age. I think her man might be willing to try a rifle once he sees little 7 YO boys shooting them at a summer day camp( if they still do that like they did when I was a scout ) and learning how to safely use knives and other tools.
>>
>>32683870

your future brother in law sounds like a fucking asshole you should ask him if he literally wants his family to be raped and murdered Petit-style
>>
>>32683910
I don't believe he is an asshole although he will come across that way( in( what seems like ) a fit of panic ) if you talk about firearms, knives, prepping, hunting, personal safety, etc. long enough. I think there is a lot of trauma in his past he might not want to/might not be able to talk about.

My EDC currently is a small 300+ lumen flashlight, pen/kubaton, some waterproof paper, wallet, keys attached to a resqme window breaker/strap cutter and small 3.6 inch "utility" knife I swap out for a 2.4 inch "utility" knife when I need to keep my blade concealed, a Leatherman Wingman and come tomorrow I will be trading in my flip-phone for a Google Pixel phone. When I first met him I had pepper spray instead of the resqme and Wingman and he was curious as to why I carried the things I did. I told him that none of it took up much room on my person and it was all useful stuff I got to use daily that could serve useful secondary and emergency purposes. His response to me having a flashlight, a knife, a pen was that his smart-phone had a flashlight app, a way to record notes and messages, etc. but he never really provided an alternative to the knife. He's asked me to open packages for him at times and he has also feigned mock-surprise when he's needed something simple that I didn't have on my person( he didn't either though ). Since then he's begun talking to me a little more and slowly is seeing how useful carrying an actual pen, knife, etc. which is why he's open to the thought of Boy Scouts. I'm hoping learning about this stuff from an "instructor" ( hahahaha-no, "scout leaders" are not necessarily instructors ) will help him become less of an unprepared snob.

On the other hand my mother's neighbors ( my sister/nephew live with her ATM ) are "preppers" that have a yard/trash can always covered in maggots, kids almost always with foot/mouth disease, etc. ( typical "white trash" types ) that cause him to jump five steps backward when he has to deal with them.

RECOIL has decent prodcution values and graphic design, but half the stuff they dedicate space to is dumb "gun owner lifestyle" crap like lifted brotrucks and shit.
>>
>>32684433
I enjoyed the a piece from their /Concealment/ issue where they demonstrated a concealed carry being caught in a movie theater where "no weapon" signs had been visible. The piece sort of hit home as I used to go see a movie once in a while but the theater decided to oust their regular chairs for leather 2-person recliners and now people bring large blankets all rolled up. I don't want to go into a theater unarmed only to have somebody pull a weapon from their blanket bundle and blow me away but I don't want to go into a theater and get arrested/lose my firearm either.
>>
>>32683101
That was the H&K rep. What pissed off the internet was that they printed it and gave a half assed sorry you're offended apology that ended with the then editor getting sacked and the British guy who edits it now getting in. Pretty sure you'll find it if you search Recoil and MP7 and scumbags
