goddamnit /k/
just bought a 1st Gen glock for 400 bucks and I didn't notice this fuckery on the front sight.
some dick less piece of shit drilled to holes in the slide so this piece of shit front sight could be staked on.
still like the gun since it's a very early producton g17.
is my only option to have the holes welded then Rema chine the front sight hole?
also gun came with a lasermax guide rod I sold for 150 so it's not like I paid alot for this gubook but I really wanted a nice example for my collection.

re-machined*
sorry not spell checking with my phone
You can't just install a normal front sight despite that?
Fill it with silly putty
>>32679990
the hole was drilled through the original hole for the front sight.
Looks fixable
At least it ain't a complete lost like this poor guy's slides. He had 2 sent out for milling and the shop fucked up the slides, and refused to take responsibility.
>>32679960
>glock perfection
>>32679960
so did that sight pop off from firing or did you just knock it out because you did not like it.
>>32680042
ouch. ya I mean it is just cosmetic once I put a front sight on here somehow...but I did buy this pistol for its collectibility.
>inb4 glocks aren't collectable.
>1986 glock first year they where imported into the US
>>32680065
knocked it out because I hated it. suppressor height sight on a non threaded barrel. also I don't plan on shooting this much. I just want it to look oem
>>32680073
then weld and remachine
>>32680094
this looks to be the only way to do it. it's unfortunate but whatever I'll deal with it.
>>32679960
>gen1
>400 bucks
why tho?
>>32680135
well considering I knew I could flip the laser quick and due to my job I can get new 3rd or 4th guns for not much more I bought it because it's something you don't get to buy every day for a price I could live with.
I've learned my lesson with guns that get harder and harder to get through the years.
also it makes me happy. I like glocks
Honestly you can just buy a Gen 3 Glock 17 slide for pretty cheap, there is no fundamental difference between them, if you really want to you can even use all the original parts from the Gen 1 slide and keep that one for memorabilia
>>32680203
I own both, and visually they differ quite a bit.
They put the serial numbers on the chamber, right above the one on the slide, so it will be obvious it's not a match. They also had cool Austrian proof stamps I wish they still used on the gen1, I think the finish is different. The newer glocks use the "G" logo on that side of the slide. Another cosmetic difference is the lettering on the left side is much thicker. Finish wear will look off as well. Sorry OP, If you really want an original gen1, you'll need to find another. However I recommend you try and give this one a chance to grow on ya. 400 dollars is really not a lot of money.
Can you put Bubba's front sight back on or did you break it?
>>32680424
Glock changed from the tennifer finish to something less durable to comply with some environmental bullshit laws.
>>32680742
I broke it. and I wouldn't want that stupid thing on anyways. I'll figure this thing out somehow
>>32680042
Is that the guy from ar15.com, toothandnail or whatever? He had some real garbage mill jobs.
>>32679960
Why doesn't Glock use dovetails like everyone else?
>>32681322
my guess is that front sights are smaller so easier to snap when changing.
>>32681025
>Is that the guy from ar15.com
probably, everyone at arfcom is a fat retarded redneck
>>32679966
That thing is sexy. I love the aesthetics of Gen 1/2
>>32680178
Does it have the Austrian stamp(s) on it? If so, I'd be crazy mad and make that fudd refund your money and you keep the gun just for him being a giant tool.
>>32680424
Crap, should have read through the whole thread. Get your money back and still keep the gun. The idiot you bought it from doesn't deserve to own guns.
>>32680042
>we're not responsible for ruining your gun
wat
>>32679960
>bought a 1st Gen glock
>$400
Wow you sure are stupid
>>32681913
Actually a deal with the laser guide rod, silly.
G1/G2 are becoming collectible and they will go for a premium to certain folks; people who hate finger grooves and people in certain states like Mass.
>>32682423
>glocks
>collectable
Look. Just because nigs like to steal them doesn't mean they're for a collection
>>32680094
You cant just weld something on. Welding changes the grain structure of the metal effected by the weld heat zone which may possibly make it more harder/brittle or softer and more prone to disforming under stress. If any welding is to be done on a gun, I would reccomend reheat treating it to said specs or having it tested on a rockwell tester just to be sure its still within the safe hardness range.
>>32682457
Don't be naive.
I'm not even a glock fan and I know that 20 years from now, gen 1 glocks will probably fetch you a pretty coin.
>>32682457
Can you imagine if you told a gun owner in the 50s/60s about the prices for ww2 milsurp now?
I know forward thinking is tough but don't claim to understand collecting if you can't reference history
>>32680067
For the most part they aren't unless you can find a buyer but that's like some dipshit meth head thinking they have a mint because of some rusty signs they saw on TV being sold for 200 a pop.
>>32682498
>>32682496
That assumes they will suddenly stop making them, it's not being a milsurp owner more than a person who thinks his iver johnson is worth anything in anything other than perfect condition.
>>32682538
Uh, they're still making gen 1 glocks?
First year of import gen 1 glocks?
>>32682479
Its the slide broski its not under stress like the barrel or such. It'll be okay if it was okay without it in the first place.
>>32682655
No but it's a largely out dated model that no one really cares for unless in unusually good condition. Do you think people are buying old VCRs at a premium? Probably a couple weirdos but not really that many.
>>32682479
It's not some .500 s&w magnum with a cracked frame. There is not enough pressure on that part of the slide to give a shit about weakening the metal. I mean these special snowflake companies cut the slides all to shit and they still fire.
>>32682710
I don't think the same applies. Technology literally becomes useless. They still make 9mm.
>>32682767
Besides the first batches and even then that's probably not a garuntee they aren't particularly good looking or really that functionally better fit and finished than newer Glocks, no one is going to ooh and ah over beautifully applied and preserved tenerite or the wonderfully polished trigger. It's a mass production item with not particularly interesting history in terms of who use them.
Like I said there's dipshits paying a premium for a 'Contractor and Military Use Only' marked pistols and ARs that for some reason don't have full auto despite any contractor being easily able to get them and military pretty much requiring it so maybe I'm underestimating the autism in the firearms community.
>>32682710
Fuck off gen 1/2 glock are sleek and smooth. I got my hands on a gen 2 frame and built from there.
Sorry OP but unless you can get a "wider" headed front sight screw looks like a weld and retap is in your future.
>>32682498
Collect-ability has a lot to do with what you are collecting. A gen 1 glock will fetch some coin from the right person, but just because something is no longer made does not mean it will instantly be worth something to most. A gen 1 glock offers little from what the future generation offers. Additionally it is a massed produced item, so it lacks the uniqueness of a hand made item which shows individual worker skill/techniques. In short stop being a dumb ass.
