I was driving past my local gunstore and noticed a news crew outside. After my errands were done on the way back I saw a carpet cleaning van out front. A guy blew his brains out in the range. Why do people do this? Has this happend in your parts? I realize that he may have rented a gun there because noguns but it seems like a real dick move.
>>
A local range has had a three suicides in a month like 20 years ago. It was after the third suicide that they changed policy to only renting guns out to group or people who bring their own guns.

It also has been proven to not prevent the super crazies.

It really sucks for the range becuase they have to close down for a few days and pay out of their own pocket for clean up. I don't think anyone has the balls to sue for compensation from the surviving family.

My local range has the "groups only" policy, and it's because they had several high-profile suicides a decade or so ago.

You can rent solo if you have a membership, though. I think they may want you to come in with a friend on your first visit but after that you're good. I bought a membership there for exactly that reason when I was first getting into guns and still lived with my antifuns parents.

1. fear/unfamiliarity with firing guns

All gun ranges will be state operated as we progress and finally begin to institute common sense gun safety measures. Your guns will be perfectly safe in your rented locker at the range, waiting for you whenever you decide to schedule a shooting session and check them out of storage. Provided you pass the expanded background check and psych exam, of course.

The gun store I frequent has a range attached (I don't use their range except to introduce new shooters since they rent out) has had two people suicide (different times).
After the first, they changed their policy to only rent to groups or someone who was getting a lesson. The second guy waited for the instructor to not pay attention for 15 seconds (which was all it took for the guy to hero).

My personal range also had someone hero, but that was because they overcharged 6mm Lee Navy cartridges to the point of primer blowout and his gun exploded in his face.

Save a little bit of money by renting, rather than buying, a gun they'll only use once.

Its not the surviving families fault. Plus that store should have its insurance cover it.

Man, if I choose to off myself I'm taking out all the credit I can, buying a fucking Ferrari and stuffing it full of cocaine and TNT before driving off a cliff while furiously masturbating. If you gotta go, you may as well go out having some fun. Well, it's not suing the surviving family, but rather suing the estate of the an hero. Range should have insurance, but there's always a deductible (unless they pay a higher premium with no deductible).

I don't think anyone would sue a grieving family becuase of PR, but I would imagine an estate with no survivors would be fair game.

The simple solution is to shoot at the range later in the day.

An elegant solution, for now it's simpler to drive 15 minutes in to BLM land. Hell even if I wanted to shoot indoors in the winter - there ain't a facility in town, a calibers is opening soon, I'm sure it will be an over priced, danger filled shit hole.

They shoulda made it so that you can still rent guns by yourself but can only have ammunition if your with a group or you bring your own. Can't really suicide effectively without ammunition.

You know you have a problem when the one lonely dude is repeatedly dry firing a rented revolver into his mouth.
>>

>Why do people do this?
Easy access to a firearm.
Family won't find your brainless corpse.
Don't have to worry about gun falling into bad hands.

There's plenty of reasons.

>>32680740

A local range has a modified singles policy. If you're alone and visiting from out of state, no rental for you. That's fine for us, because they come to our range and are happy with our higher than average prices. Unfortunately the store has had one suicide in the four years we've been open. I haven't seen the tape, but the guy was kind of nice about it. Came in on a slow day, waited until there was nobody next to him and the RO wasn't looking. Kept the gun point down range, just put his skull in front of the barrel.
