Arsenal is a meme factory, I truly hope the catch phrases continue with future releases

>>32680209
The gas blocks they use now are made from castings. Most likely they haven't made new 45° gas blocks in a long time. In fact I'm not sure Arsenal has ever made AKM style (lugged) 45 degree gas blocks. Bulgaria never made AKMs. It's cheaper and simpler for them to use what all their other guns use. I agree it would be much better if they used AKM style gas blocks and front sight bases. Just explaining the rationale.
>>
>>32680253
This makes sense.
But why not put a 74/100 series FSB on it instead of threading the barrel?
That's where they lost me.
It's this weird amalgamation that just looks off.
>>
>>32680336
They're just kind of all over the place.

I think they wanted to make a Wasr competitor. Which it is. If you don't worry about the aesthetics, it's basically a Wasr competitor. But it has a 74 gas block, and an AK-47 type front sight base. It's kind of all over the place. But they still probably produce both of those parts for their other guns, and knowing most people won't really care, it works.

If it was $100 cheaper I'd consider it just to have a beater gun, but it's just kind of meh
>>
>>32680336
>no 74 / 100 series FSB

I know......

I would rather have them put a 74 style FSB on it and just not include a muzzle device, if that's where they're trying to cut costs.....

Fucking Arsenal.......

Hey komrades; im planning on getting a folding stock for my saiga but k-var has discontinued their bfs series drop in folders.

Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe east german wire drop in? I'd really like a triangle folder though...
>>
>>32680594
I believe they recently restocked their folding trunnion sets. You could just buy the trunnion and have it sent off and done right. Folding trunnion installation is something a lot of people can do. That way you can have the triangle folder without it being fucking downsy looking
>>
>>32680594
Go the hard route and get a rear folding trunnion put on it, with all that entails.
You'll be happier in the end.
>Go really hard and get a 5.5mm stock and the wood folding stock.

>>
>>32680617
Well I barbie my ak a lot, so changing the trun is kind of the opposite of what I want to do. Specifically looking for the drop in because I like to swap furniture around a lot.

Thanks, I'll be sure to send them an email
>>

>>

>I change my furniture too often
You do know they make more than just triangle stocks for the folding trunnion, right?
Polymer and wood (if you go the 5.5) can be swapped in with a pin punch.

Go big or get another AK instead of trying to put some pseudo triangle folder on it.

usually you can tell just by shining a light on the inside the receiver and looking down the barrel for any curves or tilting. You might not want to actually shine the light down the barrel so you can see a bit clearer.

how autistic
>>
>>32681756
All the original Kalashnikov 7.62x39 rifles have 45° gas blocks. The 90° gas block is a development that came specifically from 5.45 as a caliber. The angle of the port in the barrel would cause the smaller, faster projectile to shear. The 90° port fixes this issue, and is one of the visual indicators (along with magazine curvature) that makes AKs identifiably 7.62 or 5.45.

Of course, as with all things slavshit it's not universal. There are 74s with 45°GBs (but 90° ports) and all 100-series guns have 90° blocks regardless of caliber.

The issue is that Arsenal is ostensibly putting out an AKM but is still putting a 90° gas block on it, which makes it not an AKM by definition. Functionally it makes no difference but if you're as detail-oriented about your autism as we are and you want an AKM, this new Arsenal gun will never be correct, while the other competitors in that price range are.

Some of us (I'm in this group) simply prefer the lines of a 7.62 AK with a 45° block and a slant break (IE a traditional, OG AKM).

I wonder if the early Russian 74s had gas ports drilled at 90 or 45 degrees
>>
>>32681912
I never knew I wanted an underfolding 74 til now
>>
>>32681912
I seem to recall reading that the gas ports were drilled normally but that the AKM gas system didn't play nice with the 5.45, resulting in the change (isn't 5.45 higher-pressure than 7.62?). Could be wrong though.
>>
>>32681912
I know some other combloc countries (Romania for instance) would just throw 45° blocks on 90° ports. I guess I always assumed that the Russian ones we see pop up in places like Ukraine had the same thing going on, because the Russians don't throw stuff away and I would assume they worked out the shearing issue before they issued any guns, but I might be giving them too much credit.

>>32681975
That's how the story goes, but I wonder if they realized this in prototype phase or if the first 3 or 4 years or so of AK-74s had 45 degree ports.

>>32681979
Romania is like that because they wanted to keep using the same old gas ports and they did this indefinitely.

I'm just wondering about what you're saying, if the first years of issued 74s had 90° ports but angled gas blocks like Romania, or if they were just issued with the 45° ports.

>>32681966
Now you want a GREEN under folding 74
>>
>>32681975
port wear was higher in the 5.45 with a 45° blocks according to a book i read on the ak74
>>
>>32679924
Look up mel64 vids on those rifles. The countersink for the gas block goes into the rifling. Confirmed on a few guns.
>>
>>32682258
Mel64 is a saint
>>
>>32682280
It's true.

If the barrel wasn't a over gassing time bomb it wouldn't be a bad deal. Bolt, carrier, receiver, trunions are all combloc. With it priced 150-200 cheaper than a wasr it was almost a winner.
>>
>>32682322
How hard and expensive would it be for me to buy one of Classic's guns with a shit barrel and replace the barrel with a proper one (either original Hungarian if I could find one for the right price, or just either a new not shitty US made on it new Polish one) assuming I already had he tools needed to change barrels?
>>
>>32682369
a anon a few threads ago broke 6-7 punches on his gas port pins, you'll need a proper tonnage press
>>
>>32682258
Do you just mean the gas port itself goes into the rifling? The gas port countersink should be on the outside of the barrel and have nothing to do with the rifling.
>>
>>32682369
At that point just spend more on a better rifle. With the cost of a decent barrel, plus the cost of tools, plus the time investment, you're really not gaining anything.
>>
>>32682369
Assuming you had all the tools, (press, plates, headspace gauges, cobalt bits, drill press) I would say it's moderately difficult. Headspace would be the hardest part followed by drilling the barrel pin. Also of note the barrel pins on those rifles are sketchy. Again watch Mel's vid he goes through the entire process.

If you didn't want to do the work a barrel would cost you 160-200 for chf combloc and you could find a builder that would do it for under 150. Cheaper if you went the Ak-builder barrel and a extended brake for a more correct look
>>
>>32682421
>>32682473
I already have the tools, just not sure if the classic gun with all its original Hungarian parts would be with the $500 price tag if I can just swap the barrel at home with something half decent. But, if it's more than just the shit barrel it won't be worth it. I just thought it'd be a fun project if I could score a cheap barrel
>>
>>32682421
Nonsense, you just need the right interference fit.

With holes so small it's probably hard to get a 1 thousandth interference without a tiny little reamer to ream the hole to final diameter.

or a good way to measure the hole, hey I bet gauge rods would work. They sell sets of those, problem is it would need to be in thousandth of an inch increments to be of use.

I suppose if you have a lathe you could turn rods to specific sizes to see how much larger than the drill bit the holes ended up.

If you can find a tiny reamer that would be much easier.
>>
>>32682553
swapping a barrel means depopulating the barrel components, like pressing off the front sight block, gas block, and rear sight block.

It also means drilling and reaming for a new barrel pin, pressing the old barrel off in the first place, etc.

and of course you don't want canted gas block or sights, so those have to be done properly.

In theory, it'll prevent OOB fire

In reality, you'll just have to shave the shit out of your safety and installing every single FCG piece around it will be a pain in the ass, and it doesn't actually have any effect in semi
>>
>>32683351
you'd need to use a wire retainer like those century rifles ship with instead of the usual Red Star Arms FCG retaining plate most everyone else uses.

It will take up some slack if there is any side-to-side play with your trigger and keep the engagement surfaces at a more consistent angle, definitely useful for a better trigger pull.

Also if you're thinking about it or anyone else is, I would probably recommend against doing it unless you are really dedicated and capable of being patient and delicate. >>
>>32683911
Depends on what you want really

Do you already have the trigger pack? If so just pull the safety and go ahead and install it like normal with and without the retarder, see if it makes an appreciable difference in how the trigger feels, if the second half of >>32683506 is true, though I have my doubts

If it doesn't change your trigger quality and you're not a slavaboo who absolutely has to have as much slavshit on the gun as possible then it's not worth your troubles, considering all the pic relateds took me maybe 20-30 minutes total including all the time I spent almost installing and then pulling the complete FCG out again when the safety still wouldn't wrap around the retarder

Sling mount on my C39V2. Surplus Russian sling. Are these linear marks and scratches from the steel of the sling going to cause long term damage i.e. significantly damage the finish that corrosion would occur?

Tldr are these scratches bad.

Inb4 century sucks.
>>
>>32685355
so?
>>
>>32685355
The "kits" have been in Ukraine for well over 5 years at this point though. Russian markings or no, they could very well end up getting classified as "Ukrainian" and exported over here eventually unless they get sold as surplus to another military.
>>
>>32685394
Not how it works. The 5 year rule only applies to C&R military surplus. I.E. SKS
>>
>>32685361
Your rifle will start to fall apart soon. But your sling has nothing to do with it.
>>
>>32685423
Then one has to ask how Rguns has been getting Russian kits. I'd assume Ukraine ditching the -74 would result in putting more supply at the top of that chain, though.
>>
>>32685394
I think you actually have to have paperwork to prove that, such as warehouse storage payments for 5 years or something. I believe the Russian kits rguns had were labeled as Bulgarian to get ATF approval. Which kind of works since Bulgaria actually does make AKs but Ukraine does not, in any significant amount.

I have no interest in the Galil ace and thus do not know much about it, I hardly care much for the Galil, although I think it's neat that a Galil is what was used to represent the AK rifle in the Alaskan state troopers' cold weather rifle reliability test, but the Ace just seems like a shitty plasticky version of the Galil. It might be good or it might not, it matters not to me, because I'll never own one. I think MAC has a video on them.. Take that for what you will.

>>32688115
More likely answer is that there's very little QC and/or multiple people make them. I've honest to god never seen two tourniquets that looked alike

Try shooting it soon or even dry fire practice for a bit and you'll find your way, I wrapped mine a few dozen times till I got mine the way I like it too, and there's always other methods to test

Weight balance, it's much easier to keep it on the inside where the center of balance is maintained that putting it on the outside

This is interesting. So are you saying that Arsenal US makes AKM receivers for its sam7/107 series rifles for US/export only, or that they actually farm this out to someone else?

>>32687008
I honestly don't understand the hate for the Galil Ace. I do understand the hate for the ((Tavor)) having had one. There's also a lot more information/opinion out there for the Tavor than the Ace, and despite this all I hear is "it's fucking expensive!" or "muh plastic". Which is crazy because you don't really hear these complaints regarding polymer with the SCAR, which makes use of an entirely polymer lower receiver and stock, whereas the ACE just uses it as a pistol grip/magwell/handguard retainer combo over a traditional style Galil receiver. It also can't be too shit, as a few governments across the globe have adopted it as their primary infantry rifle, including Vietnam. I really want to get one (gonna try to this year) and I hope that the aftermarket comes through in unfucking some of the stupidity out of it like the proprietary stock tube and that goofy rubber buffer on the recoil assembly.

I take it you mean "Tavor"? For one, it's very expensive for what it offers. My experience is with the old SAR model, though I hear the x95 is better. For one, the trigger feels like fucking shit. Really makes shooting it hateful. Not ambidextrous, so lefties are fucked unless you want to give more shekles for a LH ejection bolt. Poorly sealed dustcover blows gas in your face. Balance on it is stupid and really rear heavy even for a bullpup. Easy to accidentally hit mag release and unseat or drop mag. PITA to clean the breach, full detail stripping is a bitch but basic takedown is OK. Not really accurate. Irons are laughable and an afterthought, and usually won't work/get in the way of a magnified optic or something that isn't a small red dot. Honestly, the FN PS90 is a much better bullpup and is cheaper.
>>
>>32689201
No, Arsenal USA doesn't make very many things, Arsenal Bulgaria does make their own receivers for their imported rifles, the barreled receivers are all built in Bulgaria, I'm just saying Bulgaria wasn't making AKMs when AKMs were still a thing.

I may be wrong but I believe the first AKs the ((10)) plant started making were AK-74s and RPK-74s.
