/k/,
I need some help making a final decision between the HK USPc in 9mm or the P229 Stainless Steel Elite in 9mm.

Can anyone let me know if they owned these firearms and their experiences with them? Any major issues I should know about while I'm researching these two options? The gun I pick will be my EDC.

The USPc is around $900 and the P229 SSE is around $1175. I like the weight on the P229 but I'm afraid it's going to get really burdensome to carry it all day. I just always worry about polymer breaking/cracking. Maybe it's my inner Fudd.

Pic related, it's a USPc

Both guns are not the best choices in 9mm. The USP is really better in .45 ACP and the P229 was designed for the 357 SIG round and has a pretty chunky slide for a 9mm. Just buy a Glock 19 like every other faggot.
>>
>>32674757
The SIG will have the better trigger, but I like the USP better as far as controls and ergonomics go. I also like carrying C&L, or, if I am going hammer-down, having the option.
>>
>>32674757
I have a USP9c. It is fantastic. As far as pistols go it is my favorite doublestack carry sized pistol I own
>>
>>32674772
That particular P229 model only comes in 9 or 40 and between those I'll go with the 9mm

they're "smaller" than the base models but damn. Those things are built for larger calibers than 9mm.

Before choosing, you should rent both and see if you have a preference. That said...

I went with a USP9cV1. I prefer the USP's controls, ergos, and trigger.

I have an friend who has EDC'd an aluminum alloy-framed P229 for decades and swears by it. YMMV, especially with the stainless steel variant.

Sadly I live in the middle of nowhere and the range doesn't have either for rent. I'm left picking /k/s brain.

Sorry to hear, anon. Are there any specific questions we can field for you?
>>
>>32675124
Which will handle the highest amount of rounds through it? Any common problems with either model? Which is more reliable? Basic stuff. Gonna put in the order tomorrow morning.
>>
>>32674772
Pretty much what this anon said. Also, it depends how you want to carry it...neither will be ideal for IWB and the sig will have more holster options for OWB, not to mention sights, grips, any other aftermarket accessories really
>>
>>32675168
>Which will handle the highest amount of rounds through it?
Definitely the USP.
>Any common problems with either model?
Not really, USP's have a different mag release than normal pistols, but once you get used to it its fine, I actually prefer it. I have heard of people having rail wear issues with newer Sig alloy frame pistols, never really heard any complaints like that from their stainless framed pistols.
>Which is more reliable?
Both are probably equal, but the USP is more rugged.

Mags are going to cost about the same for either (avoid Pro Mag), same with after market sights (if you even want to change them).
IMO the HK is a better gun for pretty much every purpose, but the sig is more fun to fondle, the slide is so smooth and USP compacts kind of squeak when you rack the slide because of the flat coil spring and steel guide rod.
>>
>>32675236
And if u absolutely must have a "compact" size double stack hammer fired gun I would consider some other options that lend themselves to EDC a bit better IMO...might I suggest a CZ P07, U could get a subjectively better gun with a huge aftermarket for half the price. Take the money U save and buy ammo to practice with...that's what I would do if I was working with your criteria
>>
>>32675284
I have a shit ton of ammo and I've owned CZ and CZ clones int he past. I'm not a fan. The only one I've kept is the IWI Jericho 941 mid steel frame.

That being said I am open to suggestions that aren't Glock.
>>
>>32674757
Doesn't the USPc lose the recoil management system of the full size?
>>
>>32675308
Do they have to fit the criteria of both guns that u mentioned in your OP?
>>
>>32675346
The USPc has a single recoil spring and polymer recoil buffer vs the USP's double recoil springs.

I forget if the full size USP has a polymer recoil buffer as well. Can someone else comment?
>>
>>32675379
Full size does not have the polymer buffer.

Here's the recoil assembly from my full size 9mm, full size .45, and compact .40.
>>
>>32675355
Sorry for the slow response. Working on a MA thesis. Needs to be 9mm, Compact or Sub Com.

>>32675467
Thanks for the pic
>>
>>32675537
No problem, if you want to know anything else about the USP let me know, I know what its like not being able to finger fuck a gun for two hours before you buy it.

Also, if you plan on carrying it frequently I'd consider the P2000sk as well. I don't have one but I carried one for work and it was a nice little gun, a bit too small for my alien hands but it shot well and concealed nicely.
>>
>>32675266
>definitely the USP
What makes the USP so much better at achieving a longer lifespan through high round counts?
>>
>>32674757
USP hands down and you can order a match grade kit directly from HK if you wanted to.
The trigger on the USP comes better than the p30 or p2000 though, better reset.

Polymer frame and polyagonal rifling.
>>
>>32676088
Nice read but will this still apply to the Compact? Does the size variation have anything to do with the reliability of the larger model?

The two big differences will be caliber (45 to 9) and recoil system (double spring to single w/ polymer recoil buffer).

While not a perfect comparison, the story reflects well on the rest of the gun. I'm thinking frame, lock up of components, extractor, hammer, firing pin, etc.

Ordering the USP9c tomorrow. Thanks guys.
