>“The more frequently one plays violent shooting games, the more accurately one fires a realistic gun and aims for the head,,” Bushman said.

Are FPS games basically training our future soldiers before they even pick up a gun?

I buy that.
Makes sense that learning how aiming and fire patterns work would transfer into the real world.

>aiming for the head

top tier tactical decision make everything headshots

People who develop hand/eye coordination have good hand/eye coordination.

Really tickles the almonds
>>
>>32671635

desu it's probably just increased hand eye co-ordination.

Playing video games makes surgeons quicker and more accurate, go figure.

Too bad there's a lot more muscles involved in accurate shooting than your wrist and eyes. Nevermind how shittily 99% of all vidya depicts shooting.

Have you ever fired a rifle standing? Have you ever performed any tactical shooting drills? How well you you headshot people in CS has very little effect on reality.

It's bullshit. Hardcore vidya people have a mental model of how shooting works that is completely wrong and you have to break this before you can start on the fundamentals. Once they have those, however, they tend to be better at picking up the higher stuff like figuring lead and drop.

But if you've got two 18 year olds, one played cawaduddy for eight hours a day, and the other watched youtube all day, the latter is almost always going to be a better shot after 30 minutes of training because the CoD kid didn't listen for shit and now he's fucking up his trigger pull or got no cheek stock weld, or some other fundamental failure. Then when you yell at the idiot for fucking up, the fucker's gonna flag the whole goddamn range because he was confident that he was better than this and wasn't paying attention during the safety lecture.

Gamer kids are literally worse shots initially than gun control advocates. At least the anti-gunners listen to the safety lecture.

Remember when Hollywood new networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and CNN dedicated hundreds of hours of coverage on the dangers of videogames when videogame revenue started to rival film income?

Really tickles the ole Noodle.

I'm a recon sniper and did multiple tours in Afghanistan and later Iraq.
I enlisted in high school right after I heard who was behind the terrorist attacks in New York, but before that I played the original Counter-Strike every day as soon as I got off school.
I can attest to this article and can attribute my finely honed skills from using the AWP in this game.
I on several occasions have assisted Delta teams in breaching buildings and have many confirmed kills including more than several done by using a 360 no scope method which I have perfected on CS 1.6, CS: Source and CS: GO.
If there are any nay sayers say that to my face and online and see what happens, fight me IRL and or in CS GO, I will dominate in either.
>>
>>32671569
I think it's just that since shooters these days often have an "aim down the sights" mechanic, gamers generally already have an idea as what a decent sight picture look like.

A lot of new shooters that I shoot with (especially women) generally have no idea how most gun sights are supposed to work.

>>
>>32671830
That's the only benefit I see from video games, how to properly set up sight picture. A video game isn't going to teach you proper trigger pull techniques, breathing control, basic fundamentals of fire-and-maneuver, the 4 basic rules of firearm safety, recoil control/shot follow up, moving with a full kit, how getting shot once can't be healed by hiding 10 seconds behind a desk, combat medics do not carry magic defibrillators that can bring that moron who got hit in the face with an anti-material rifle back to life 10 times, <insert other video game bullshit>.
>>
I mean it kind of makes sense, more so in the tactical side of thing such as take cover, don't run out in the open if you don't know where the enemy is, don't shoot from one spot, take cover and then pop up at the same spot.

I'd say after killing 10s of thousands of virtual dudes you kind of get a sense that it takes a few well-placed shots to do the trick and you should be aware of others who are approaching the sound of gunfire.

Having served 6 combat tours I can say that there are some similarities.

As a CSGO Global Elite sponsored by Alienware and Mt. Dew Game Fuel, and the top sniper of the top secret Seal Team 69, I can assure you that their conclusion is correct. Your misunderstanding is the source of the training videos we provide to intentionally mislead the public, and our enemies. We have to be unpredictable to stay ahead of the Neo-Soviets. When they foolishly leaked their backflip knife throwing Spetsnaz techniques, we were able to devise a countermeasure and gain an insurmountable advantage over them, and we don't want the same thing to happen to us. However, because you cannot confirm my identity because I am behind 18 proxies, I will tell you the secret. Hotscoping, 360 noscopes, quickscoping, teabagging, and running with your knife out. All of these are operating at the highest levels. Valve is a shell company for the DoD to train the next generation of top-tier operators. Did you think it was a coincidence that all Russians are terrible at CSGO? Hardly, we based our moveset around the concept of Freedom, something Russians will never be able to replicate.

50, and that was because I was ranging with the front sight and not both the rear and the front.

Weapon was a Colt M4.

If it's any consolation, this was my second go after the rangemaster explained to aim with both front and rear.

Same range, 50.

I think this is mostly nonsense with one minor point to it's favor. The first time somebody told me how to line up gun sights I thought it was ridiculous that anyone would need that explained. I knew how to line them up the way games had taught me, which happened to be correct for the most part. That's about it... I guess some games might "teach" you where the bullets come out, and some people even decipher what the ejection port is there for, but I also know what a slam dunk is but I can't slam dunk.

I have also been told that games improve hand eye coordination, so that could count I suppose. But at that point they are just as effective at making you a better ping pong player as a shooter.
>>
>>32673276
this, as many others have said. The most that the majority of people would learn is sight picture, although lots of games have incorrect sight pictures- especially for notch & post sights like the AK, and basically any WWII or WWI rifle .

On a side note, I knew how to load AKs and ARs just from playing videogames and so I was able to run through them just fine the first time I touched them.

>On a side note, I knew how to load AKs and ARs just from playing videogames and so I was able to run through them just fine the first time I touched them.

That's another good point, I did learn some basic weapon handling from games/movies. Not saying I could strip an AR after playing CoD, but I could probably have gotten it firing without any instruction if I had to.

When I realized that I was shaky I used the same way I took sniper shots in games with a breath-shake mechanism to take shots, rather than force myself on point. It helped a lot desu. My grandpa had taught me how to breathe and squeeze which I used in conjunction though.

>>
What if the games actually controlled a real bot soldier? Looks like a game to kids. All the DLC maps are new actual battles.
>>
>>32676306
No one would play it because it would fucking suck. It would be slow as shit since you can't move and turn on a dime like in most multiplayer shooters, and if you die that's it.

It is scientifically proven fact that FPS games (and only them) improve visual spatial awareness and vision acuity. It is direct upgrade of human "hardware". Supertraining of visual system similar to lifting training for muscles.
