So I've had a bad armadillo problem at my house and a friend's and I've started shooting them with a 22lr typically at 20-60 yards and every time I've ended up with a dead armadillo which is great.

The last three I've jumped I only had my glock 19 and shot at them with it. Two times I shot at them from the rear at less than 20 yards and one was broadside at 8 yards, every time they ran off afterwards. At first I thought I was missing but I ran the last one down while mag dumping and saw he was bleeding on the body and that I shot his tail broken.

I never would have thought 9mm, even hollow points would ricochet off them if 22lr went through so I'm not totally convinced I'm hitting them but after looking online I'm seeing stories of 38 and 9mm bouncing off. I'm a decent shot at 30 yards and drilling a paper plate at that distance every time isn't a problem but maybe I just got jumpy and flinched.

Any anons have experience in using handgun rounds on them?
>>
Whatever you do make sure to rub them against yourself after you kill them. It's great for your skin.
>>
Eat them to gain stone skin

Thanks for the leprasy advice

It's perfectly safe. Most people are naturally immune. Would you rather be semi invincible and have to take a few antibiotics shots, but be shot up by dindus?
>>
>>32667278
It probably has to do with the angle of your dangle. You need a straight shot. You probably hit at an angle to get a deflection.

In that picture it looks like a graze and not a ricochet.

Regardless ricochet stories are retarded, like the one guy who says he shot an armadillo with a 38 and it ricochet and shot him in the leg . -_-

What problems do armadillos make?

Could be, I'll go for more square shots when I can

>>32667363

I don't really believe it either but I don't want to believe I'm missing that bad. I might keep trying to use a 9mm until one dies just to prove it to myself that I am missing

>>32667389

Destroys gardens and makes holes in your yard mostly
>>
>>32667278
that's a graze, not a ricochet. the problem is that you're much less accurate with a pistol than with a rifle and not hitting shit.
>>
>>32667389
Florida Man here, they dig holes under the foundation of the house.
>>
Should've gone with .45 OP
>>
>>32667358
Better dont pay to see.

Leper is shit.
>>
Well lets think about this, OP.

A .22 has a small surface area of impact. If you're using a rifle it's probably getting some decent velocity too. That lends itself to penetration.

A 9mm has a wide surface area of impact. Out of a handgun it has lower velocity. That doesn't lend itself to penetration.
>>
>>32667359
It's a reference to the /k/ommando who got leprosy while hunting and eating armadillo, you fucking newfag.
>>
>>32667468
> you're much less accurate with a pistol than with a rifle and not hitting shit.
To be fair, everyone but Hickok is less accurate with a pistol than a 22 rifle.
>>
>>32667278
aren't armadillos endangered or something?
>>
>>32667553
If possible, ^^^This. Mark in image is definitely a graze.
Also, dillos are freaking fast buggers. No shame in missing. Better to kill on first shot.
>>
>>32667278

.22LR from a rifle?

The sectional density of .22LRs and common handgun calibers are pretty close, so penetration will be similar.

Hence, velocity is more important here.
>>
>>32667278
>Any anons have experience in using handgun rounds on them?
Not an armadillo.
I've shot a skunk with a 32acp vz61, shot it 6 times, it still waddled off into a hole and died after a bit. One round from any real rifle and they're toast pretty quick, even if they walk it off for a few seconds.
I've shot down blackbirds with 32acp, shot it like 3 times after it was on the ground too and it was still kicking. My pellet rifles on the other hand kill them instantly almost every time.
So lets just say my experience with fmj handgun rounds has been that they're shit.
>>
>>32667553

This might have some merit, theyre traveling at roughly the same speed but the 9mm is a lot wider
>>
>>32667598
No.
>>
Isn't armadillo meat relatively dangerous to eat? They carry some sort of unusual disease I can't remember.

This is not how leprosy works and the hand would not be amputated. You are fucking stupid for even saving this fake shit.
>>
>>32667278
for the longest time 22 was the most difficult bullet to armor against until kevlar was invented
>>
>>32668236
you dont understand the dynamics of flesh and bone, .45 will not glance off of bone or shell in this case, it will go straight through because its weight allows it to carry its energy longer. Rather than immediately ricochet or transfer.

you dont see this effect in concrete or wood because the materials are so different from flesh or bone.
>>
>>32667930
you should have kept testing, it could have been that particular round that had issues.
>>
>>32667471

TFW im the anon that told that Op that they were linked to leprosy and linked the Smithsonian mag article.

i will live in /k/ lore even after im gone
>>
>>32667930

Looks to me like it actually penetrated some other part of the body, tumbled and got stuck as it exited. That happens on people too, the skin on the back is thicker and tends to catch the bullet.

>>
>>32670223
Kek, I can into this thread just to ask for this.
>>
Eat the dillos, you'll have glowing skin in several years.

But really, 9mm may be going 1000 FPS but it's only 100-150 grain bullet and you're going for some angled shots given you're a lot taller than armadillos. .22 LR is only 30-40 grains and is going 1500+ and has a lot smaller area in which it's delivering the energy, so of course it's going to penetrate. Next time use a .223 or a .45.

Couldn't agree more, which is why I only have a 22 handgun and only care about neat looking/feeling handguns like semi auto versions of czech military smgs. I certainly don't buy them because they're so much fun or useful to me.
>>
>>32677818
Energy/surface area = penetration
Energy=velocity*mass
You're somewhat in the ball bark of your reasoning, i even did all the math for /k/ a few years ago, i dont recall them exactly, i do remeber the rankings (of common semi auto handgun rounds and .22lr)
1. 9mm
2. .45 (it was a close second)
3. .22lr
4. .40 sw
>>
>>32679563

>Energy=velocity*mass

Nope. That's momentum. Energy is ½*velocity*velocity*mass.

Anon, if there is a God you will own a home with a Dillo problem. Come the next Halloween you will be sitting in your living room when you suddenly hear the sound of a child wailing in pain. As you rush outside you will see little 6 year old Susie dressed up as a Disney princess crying over her shattered ankle from the dillo hole in your yard. Her father will be glaring daggers at you while he tenderly lifts his child and rushes her to the emergency room.

Two weeks later you will get a friendly letter from a Mr. Goldbergstein explaining how you are being sued for the $30,000 hospital bill for setting that poor girl's ankle. Your homeowners insurance lawyer, a Mr. Shekelstein, will then paitiently explain how in light of the media reports of 'Local Monster Sets Traps For Trick-or-Treaters' they are going to weasel out of paying for the bill.

That's why you Remove Dillos from your property whenever you see them, and if there is any justice in this world that is what you will experience.
