Well...the gas tube comes out roughly the same.

And the dust cover comes off with a button and not a little pull lever tab thingy.
And the spring won't come sproinging out at you.
And you still pull the bolt carrier back until it clicks up and then you can just take it out.

They're pretty dissimilar, but it's easy to learn anyway, the AK is famous for being so simple that an inbred alcoholic Vatnik can learn how to take care of it.

If you want a rifle that's like an AK, but which is mechanically more similar to your SKS, then look at a VZ58 variant, same style of piston, same style of bolt, can even be loaded from the top with stripper-clips like an SKS.

The VZ58 won't take AK mags, but they're not that expensive or hard to find anyway.
