Around 5'6 to 5'9 is optimal soldier height. You fit into shit more easily, you don't need to eat as much, but you're still large enough to put on enough mass to be practical.

Note: optimal soldier height does not mean optimal human height. Soldiers are a unit of an army, and your value as a soldier is disconnected to your value in any other sphere. In virtually all other scenarios, being taller is better - you're more respected, you're considered more attractive, hell you even get paid more.
