Which one and why?

when will the 1911 meme die?
>>
>>32655972
Why are 1911s so popular? Is it just an aesthetic thing or what?
>>
>>32655988
It's just a long-standing part of American culture, like Apple pies or Chevy

I've seen some pics showing some horrible custom fitting on nighthawk. Would Les Bauer be an option? Why custom tier high end and not a loaded Springfield? I'm interested in getting a nice 1911 down the road and just wanted to see your reasoning or anyone else who picked something like Wilson.
>>
I've repeatedly heard that a Les Baer is better than both. But don't take it from me; consider what this other tripfag has to say on the matter:

>when will the 1911 meme die?

Why is owning a 1911 a meme?

>>32656000
This.

>>32656012
It would, but What's the price range on a Les? I didn't want to go over 4k.

>>32656015
Thank you, viewing it now.
>>
>>32656012
>Springfield

They are Brazilian in origin. Their parts are 100% made in Brazil but assembled in the United States so that Springfield can claim their guns are made in the USA. They also have a stupid internal lock.

There's zero reason to pick a Springfield at any price point over the other options available.
>>
>>32656030
I'm pretty sure you can pick up a Baer for not that far north of 2k.
>>
>>32656012
>Why custom tier high end and not a loaded Springfield?

I already own a Sig Tacops. I've had RIA's Paras, and a single colt pass through my hands already. I currently own two American classics(One trophy, one commander), a Llama(it was 200 bucks shut up), and the aforementioned sig.

>>32656048
I'll have to check that out then.

I want something really nice for a change.

Found the one I want.

>>32656042
This faggot has no idea what he's talking about

Springfield stopped sourcing their forgings to Imbel years ago and have been making all their 1911 shit in the US now

You can easily replace the mainspring housing to get rid of the IL though it has never really been a problem

Dude don't get 1 high end 1911, buy a couple nice Colts instead. You could get a 70s series and a nice pre 70s example. Plus they hold value better than a new 1911
>>
>>32655972
Fuck Bill Wilson. He's a snake oil salesman who sells overpriced solutions to easily avoidable problems.

uh, no

>>32656087
It's a nice gun with a nice price. You won't regret buying it.

Gorgeous. Great history. Buttery smooth trigger. Incredible design. 45 stronk. Amazing aftermarket. Makes women moist.

>You could get a 70s series and a nice pre 70s example. Plus they hold value better than a new 1911

But that's not what I want. At all, infact. I don't like colt 1911s.
>>
>>32656125
>>32656143
Why don't you tell me who makes Springfield's components then? They do not do it themselves, and there is no information on who is doing it despite their claim that it's not IMBEL anymore. It's a mystery~
>>
>>32656242
So if it's a mystery how do you know it's Brazil chief?
>>
>>32656284
Critical thinking, bro.

If everything in the gun was sourced from the United States, they would make sure the entire world knows and market it as such (like Henry does). The fact that they do not most likely means that some of the components in their guns come from a source that they do not want their customers to know but that the overall % of foreign/questionable components is low enough that they can still claim the gun as U.S. made.

>but nothing about what you've said proves that their mystery source is necessarily Brazil!

They have decades worth of business connections in Brazil, and there aren't many other places in the world besides the Philippines that have both the large firearms industry and extremely low prices that Brazil has. Yes, while their new source is not necessarily Brazilian, there is high likelihood that it is.

shevys arnt the best american car, apple pie isnt the best pie, and 1911 isnt the best american gun.

Perhaps you can tell us what you think the best American handgun is then?
>>
>>32656589
>This is where the bait started.
>>
>>32656012
>expensive Springfields
The cheap ones make decent base gun. The high end ones have the same crappy internals. Their custom shop is better but still not great.

>>32656042 is mostly right despite these other idiots disagreeing. None of their frames are American and most of the parts aren't either.
>>
>>32656567
Nobody said best faggot, just cultural. Neck yourself
>>
>>32656210
>I don't like Colts
*Autistic screeching*
>>
>>32656704
I don't. They're overpriced for what you get, and everyone makes better things at lower prices.

You pay for the pony, that's it.
>>
>>32656721
Colts have by far the highest quality internals of any of the production 1911s.
>>
>>32656761
>Colts have by far the highest quality internals of any of the production 1911s.

No MIM?
>>
>>32656567
It's not about the best, it's about how iconic it is.
>>
>>32656815
Not no but the fewest. Even Colts MIM parts have a good reputation among smiths.

FWIW there's nothing inherently wrong with MIM parts if done right. Colt does them right. Most don't, which has led to the negative reputation.
>>
>>32656928
I'm aware, but if i'm paying colt prices then I want all forged parts.

Becasue shit, paying 900 bucks for a USGI 1911 better start out good. Especially when I can get a Flip 1911 that has the extended beavertail, adjustable novak sites, and a front fiber for the same price.
>>
>>32656965
Street prices on a government style Colt are in the upper $600 or lower $700 range, not $900.
>>
>>32655988
>Feel good in my hand

My 1911 is probably my favorite to shoot of all my pistols.

Gunbroker says otherwise.
http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=Colt+series+70&NoReserve=1
>>
>>32657068
>series 70

Ah, that's why. Incidentally, I have read that the series 70s made by Colt are not actually more accurate than their 80s. This obviously does not apply to custom guns, however.
>>
>>32657068
You're retarded if you think Gunbroker accurately reflects street prices.

Also Series 70 Colts aren't base model guns.
>>
>>32655988

As the others said, it shoots like a fuckin dream to this day.

It's also had over a hundred changes to its design since the year 1911, so most of them are a lot more comfortable to use than Ye Olden A1 model, there is that.
>>
>>32657810
>You're retarded if you think Gunbroker accurately reflects street prices.

Gunbroker's the only place to really compare prices since "street Prices" for colts aren't exactly common place. Few Gunstores actually stock them as well as they do glocks.

>Also Series 70 Colts aren't base model guns.

Then what is? The 1991 Models? Aren't those Colt's "Budget tier" handguns?

Also I wasn't saying "base models" i was saying "USGI model" in the sense that it's styled like a USGI 1911 with the shitty beavertail, shitty safety, and small slide release.

I finger fucked a nighthawk at my LGS, I liked it less than the Wilson and the Brown they had there.

>Colts have by far the highest quality internals of any of the production 1911s.
>MIM
>highest quality
Dan Wesson 1911s have zero MIM.

>>32656928
>FWIW there's nothing inherently wrong with MIM parts if done right
When done right they can be perfectly *adequate*, which is to say they're still inferior to well executed forged or even investment cast parts. You'll never see anyone except shills or fanatical brand loyalists voice a preference for MIM over forged or cast parts based solely on their own merits, it's always about manufacturing costs. And hardly any of the gun manufacturers who use lots of MIM - including Colt - seem to pass those savings on to their customers.

>>32655972
Ed Brown. Wilson's are good but a bit overpriced for what you're getting. Nighthawks are literally $500+ just to get a bird on the slide.

>>32656012
Baer's are nice but his machinery is the oldest in the game and its starting to show. Still a solid option, though.
