My theory:

Papa Bubba bought an Auto-5 (or some variation thereof) back in 1948 when he needed a good shotgun. Unfortunately, he was left-handed, and this was 1948. Back then lefties were taught to deal with it, but the old man didn't like that. He got a piece of MG42 from a scrap bin and got to work making a shotgun he could use properly.

Very interesting.

Maybe bubba's a lefty and tired of getting shells ejected into his face. Also has that thing overinsured and wants it stolen

The mechanical prowess of Bubba never ceases to amaze.

Knowing what I know about the A5 since it is hammer fired it would be possible to invert it and have the hammer swing in from a hole cut in the top of the receiver. The tricky part in this picture would be integrating a hammer into the mg42 fire control group used, since that system utilizes a sear to restrain an open bolt, and there is usually no hammer involved.

Hopefully it's a 338 wishaniggawould wired up to the battery to fry the fuck out of anyone that tries to break in and steal it...
