An Esee in whatever size you want.
I got an Ontario Bushcraft a few months ago and it's great for camping

He's probably not a euroshit so he isn't limited to $10 plastic knives
>>32647838
Mah dude. You can't go wrong with scandinavian knives, really. Same with the axes.
>>32648108
nobody is limited to $10 plastic knives, but they are kinda perfect for backpacking and bushcraft.
they are built like a tank stainless nearly indestructible easy to maintain and in high visibility colors.
it's just too good to pass up really. especially if you are a casual backpacker.

>esee
>not glorious TOPS BOB
Enjoy your small handle
>>32648225
I have a Tops Bob. Good knife.
Esees are a better deal.
>dat warranty
>>32648251
Tips has a good warranty also. I think it's a much better blade, I sometimes wear big gloves and esee handles are too small for a comfortable fit unlike my BOB
>>32647736
TOPS and ESEE are comparable in quality and a favorite of back packers. Your choice both are solid brands.
>>32648281
No they don't. Manufacturing defects for original owner is not in any way comprable to full replacement if it ever breaks, including intentional abuse.
The larger Esees have bigger handles and the new handle mod versions are really nice.

My old TOPS got used for 6 years every weekend pretty much, my esee 5 I had didn't compare. You won't have to use the warranty on a a TOPS you'll lose it before you need to. The only time you'll hurt it is if it is a manufacturer defect.

The Esee 5 is by far the worst Esee. The designer even says not to buy it. It was a customer request for the stupid thick blade.
You should be asking this in /out/
Stop posting about this fucking knife. It isn't a camping/backpacking/bushcraft knife.

I also had the 3. Sold both when I got my TOPS because it's the best of both worlds imo

mora is a lot more useful than a kbar
Stay away from the tacticool shit with serrations and crap. And stay away from the big he-man macho knives like in your pic. They're very short hatchets, not knives. I know of no one who owns a big knife that actually uses it -- with the notable exception of a couple /k/ommandoes who work in the field with their kukris. But again, they're hatchets.
A smaller, slimmer knife like the Buck Woodsman will pick splinters, whittle kindling and tent pegs, clean trout and game, cut cloth and paper and tape, and everything you use an actual knife *for.*
ESEEs are by far the most recommended general purpose knives. A full tang is ideal, the KA-BAR has rat tail and is not quite as sturdy as the Ontario equivalent.

My Ontario 499 is great, had it for 6 years now been on many innawoods trips. I even had better knives like bark river and some condor. But now I have moved on but still a great blade for the money
>>32649775
Eh. Too thick for a general purpose knife in my opinion. Good splitting etc if you only want to pack one knife but I'd rather have something thinner and an ax or hatchet.
Definitely don't think it can totally replace an Esee 3.

Cold Steel G.I. Tanto.
>cheap.
>durable as fuck.
>big ass blade.
>>32648225
You act like you can't buy or make custom scales.shit is Hella easy to make.
Kukri
>>32652146
>Tanto
>>32648301
>both are solid brands
nah, I've seen videos of how each are produced, and ESEE is miles beyond TOPS. Rowen (ESEE) use a water cooled grinder to avoid over heating the blade, and a temperature controlled oven for heat treating, TOPS is just some faggot eyeballing it in a furnace

It's slightly tacticool but the Gerber LMF II is a great survival knife. I always use it for camping. Perhaps a bit heavy for backpacking.
an actual nazi knife.
