Are bolt actions chambered in anything less than .338 Lapua just pure meme tier or am I missing something?
>>
>>32645838
You're missing a lot of things, including a triple digit IQ.
>>
>doesnt jam
>doesnt leave shells behind
>silent operating mechanism
>shape is easier to conceal than AR
You're missing creativity anon.
>>
>>32645838
Bolt actions can be made to be more accurate.
>>
>>32645838
Reminder to report and sage every OP that contains the word meme. It's always a bait thread and 1st grade level trolling.

ar15s and ar10s can be made accurate enough imo

A quality bolt action will always be...
>more accurate
>more reliable
>silent action
>lighter
>more comfortable/ergonomic *imo*
>Cheaper

If semi autos were more accurate than bolt actions then they would be used in bench rest competitions.

If semi autos were lighter and more reliable than bolt actions then they would be used by more hunters.

Semi autos obliviously have a place, but where one well placed shot is concerned bolt actions beat them out almost every-time.

.257 Roberts is the only rifle round you need
>>
>>32646100
257 bob is truly a patricians caliber.
>>
>>32646163
I just wish it wasn't 2 dollars a round. But I've killed many deer with that old ass gun. I shoot a 1/4" pattern at 100 yards
>>
>>32645838
You're missing a whole world of calibers and shooting.
>>
>>32645838
I do what I want, fuck you.
>>
>>32645872
>Doesn't jam
Yes they can, and no less likely than a semi, at that.
>Doesn't leave shells behind
...nigger, what?
>Silent operation
No, they don't, and two, you realize we're talking about guns, right?
>Shape is easier to conceal
It's literally no different. What the actual fuck?

>>32645906
AR15s, AR10s, and SCARs are all submoa out of the box.

>>32645991
>More accurate
This is a fuddlore meme. A quality semiauto is just as accurate.
>More reliable
Also a meme.
>Silent action
This is a lie and we're talking about very loud objects anyway.
>Lighter
About the same, really, especially if your boltgun has a bull or target barrel.
>Comfier
Aftermarket ftw
>Cheaper
Not for the accuracy you're talking about.

>Semiautos would be used in bench rest competitions
Are you talking about the .22s that aren't even shoulderable?
>Lighter, more reliable, used by more hunters
They are, ever increasingly, because people are realizing fuddlore memery is just that, slowly.

Do you really think accurate semis don't exist, or something?

Show me a 7.5lb semi auto 300 win mag that shoots sub moa. I know a tikka t3 and a number of other bolt guns that will do that. And they only cost about 600-700.
And Bolt actions are always going to be more inherently reliable. Less moving parts=less shit to go wrong.

>>32647059
>>32646417
>>
>>32646417
Bolt guns are much easier to make and keep accurate. Thats not to say semi-autos cant be nearly as accurate if you put the work and money into them.
>>
>>32647059
Best I can do is an 9.3 pound at $5600.
>>
>>32646417
>A quality semiauto is just as accurate.
let me rephrase that for you. A semiauto CAN be made more accurate, but at a much higher cost.

It's pretty simple, really. It's all about tolerance stacking.

>>32647254
A Sub-MOA AR10 can be built for 1200.

I like bolt guns, but other than that there's not much reason for their existence anymore, the exception being cartridges like .338.
>>
Frankly anything less than .50BMG and you're just going to wound the animal.
>>
>>32648274
>50 bmg

What are you trying to do, tickle it to death?

Is .950 JDJ good enough for small game?
>>
>>32649008
Maybe squirrels.
>>
>>32648062
Cool. A sub moa bolt gun can be bought for 600.
>>
>>32651477
This. The first sub MOA group I ever shot was with a Savage Axis in 223.
>>
>>32648062
Cool. See how long that holds up. A bolt-action is much more economical in terms of maintenance and long-term accuracy compared to a semi-auto. You have many more components to be concerned about on a semi-auto that will affect your accuracy. Good luck keeping that 1/4" MOA over thousands of rounds without a shitload of extra work.
>>
>>32645971
Not if youre into long range tack driving they arent. But everybody enjoys firearms differently.
>>
>>32648062
>A Sub-MOA AR10 can be built for 1200.

Congrats man. Meanwhile a sub $400 boltgun like a Savage Axis will be sub-moa out of the box
>>
>>32652528
>>32651477
No shit? I thought you were looking at 800+ for a subMOA bolt.

Neat.
>>
>>32648062
>>32646417

Out of the box, non snowflake AR's of any caliber are typically not sub MOA guns. I don't think you guys realize how fucking accurate that is.

Neither do the guys that are saying am axis in a full power cartridge will print sub MOA either, for what that's worth.

Why a .308 bolt action - the Britfag edition!

The military range my club has access to goes out to 600 yards - not really much point getting those expensive rounds out at that distance.

Also, a section 1 firearm certificate doesn't permit semi auto centrebore rifles, only a section 5 does. A section 1 is issued by your local police department after they establish you aren't a raving looney. A section 5 is issued by the Home Office - a government body - after you prove you have a justified need of one!
>>
Australian here with a .308 Tikka T3x CTR, I'd probably still have it if we could get ARs because my range is 500m, I'd of course have an AR also. Something very satisfying hitting at distance with a bolt gun.
>>
Real talk, I like bolt actions because I get to pretend I'm a sniper!

At Bisley in Surrey you can go out to 1200 yards which is pushing the limits of .308 but lots of people still use it. That and there are lot of options for .308 reloads.
>>
>>32655669
Yeah, Bisley is a nice looking place from what I've seen on youtube, but it's the other half of the country. I've been looking into the Diggle ranges lately, closer to home than the military range near Lincoln...
