Just ordered a yugo SKS from classic firearms. For 479 including best of five selection and shipping.

Did I do good /k/?

Also any first time SKS owner tips?
>>
>>32645462

Why do people ask stuff like this after they have ordered it? Doesnt it make more sense to ask before you hit that buy button.
>>
they're great guns, but what made them great was that you could get them for really cheap. $479 pretty much ruins that, you can get an AR for close to that.
>>
>>32645462
So you paid 500 bucks for some fat white faggot to pick you the least rusty and worn of 5 rifles that were made in a 3rd world factory over 5 decades ago?
And you're happy you paid the same price as a decent AR?
>>
>>32645462
I wouldn't pay more than $325 for one and I live in NY
>>
>>32645616
Yeah dude I'll admit that the price he paid was a little steep, but none of us have a fucking time masheen. And maybe he doesn't want an AR? The SKS is a classically fun shooting gun. That said, if I were OP I would have bought a Chinese SKS for less.
>>
>just picked up an SKS, spare gas piston, tons of stripper clips, and 850 rounds for $500
Looks like you could have done better, anon.

what fucking world do you live in where a quality AR goes entirely for 479
>>

Oh and OP as far as tips go, clean it well prior to shooting, and remember to put the bolt spring back in correctly,
>>

>>
>>32645462
One day we won't see them for sale. Is the price high? Yup. I payed 350 for mine and felt it was 50 bucks too much. However fuck it...You know? When guys tell you "urrrr duur is just as muhhh as an AR" what their really saying is your old war horse of a Yugo is as about the same as a cheap ar that may or may not be completely in spec.

Don't listen to a lot of advice from this fucking place.

Buy one before 2011.

Don't get me wrong, welcome to the club and all that, but SKSs have ceased to be the god-tier poorfag oper8or meme rifle. It's a collector gun now.

Back when I bought my all-matching /26\ Type-56, I paid less than you did for that Yugo for the rifle, 100 surplus stripper clips, a ChiCom battle bra, a sight tool, AND 1000 rounds of 7.62x39. And this was AFTER Sandy Hook when people were loling at ME for overpaying.

I guess my advice (other than "don't buy that gun") is:

>Find surplus stripper clips. Commercial repros are trash
>Get a sight tool and read up on 25/200 zeroing 7.62x39 rifles
>ChiCom chest rigs/bandoleers (battlebras) can be had for >$20 on ebay and amazon. ChiCom slings are also GOAT. MAKE SURE THEY ARE SURPLUS AND NOT NCSTAR REPRO AIRSHIT TRASH
>You will be tempted to put polymer furniture and/or duckbill mags on/in your gun. Don't do this. Waste of money to reduce the functionality of your rifle. The duckbills are shit and pretty much always have feeding issues. The furniture is all cheap fragile crap and fucks up the balance of the gun. Since yours is a Yugo, it's going to be front-heavy anyway. Crapco with severely exacerbate this. We've all been there and we're telling you this to try and save you $100.
>The only SKS "upgrades" that actually improve the gun are rare/expensive Chinese 20rd fixed mags and a 1" rubber butt pad if you find the factory LoP too short.
>>
>>32646015
Ahhh what it's like to be in your early 20's.
>>
>>32646015

I got mine for $250 from AIMsurplus about a year ago

Pretty sure 27 doesn't count as "early-20s" by even the most delayed manchild standard. Sorry the things I have to say about SKS ownership in 2017 hurt your butt.

You're late to the party, playboy, and you overpaid by a ton.

I did some searching around, found a guy here who sold me his Russian for $460 with 10 stripper clips, a 20 round tapco mag, and free shipping. Granted I got lucky, but always search around for the best deal, even if it's not likely to be there.

If you're happy with it, that's all that matters. Sks are great guns, up here in canada, everyone owns one, lots of people own multiple because they're just fun to shoot and a good deal up here.
>>
>>32645494
Usually its a way for them to seek some back patting and justification to their purchase.

You'd need to define decent at that rate. One as reliable as a 70 year old gun isn't really impressive but could be done if you look for sales and put on together yourself.

I'll give you the night sights but the grenade shit on Yugos is the worst thing about them:
>ugly af
>comparatively front-heavy
>introducing more points of failure to a design valued for its rugged simplicity
>all for the sake of an esoteric meme of Yugoslavian doctrine implemented in the least practical way possible
>>
Haven't bought one yet, but in the shops around me you can pretty much always find one for around $300-350 with ok to good bores. Parts probably don't match and they are probably chink but if they shoot well I'd be happy with them.
>>
>>32652728
>he thinks he's a frog man
>he thinks partial submersion will be the same as completely waterlogging everything
>his arms are too weak to keep his rifle above water if fjording a stream because he can't read a map
I'm not even embarrassed by this, I'm just entertained
>>
>>32652983
Yugoslavian<Chink as long as the Chink gun is milsurp rather than commercial reproduction.

My ChiCom SKS has mostly matching parts (notably the mag and FCG have a different serial on them and the bayo is definitely not original) and a /26\ stamp on the receiver, and it's got the smoothest action I've ever experienced in any semiauto firearm I've ever handled. Better than the matching Yugo it replaced. It looks worse than my buddy's Tula (the wood has seen better days) but mechanically is smoother as well.

And it's miles ahead of any commercial Norinco I've ever handled.

If you were looking for a good deal on a practical rifle, no. Unless you live in CA or some other state with antifungal laws.

If you just wanted a nice SKS, then yeah it's not a bad deal these days. From what I've heard the handpicking is a bit of a waste though.
>>
>>32653131
I've done it with pliers and a flathead screwdriver. Mostly pliers is all you need, with the screwdriver only coming up if you need to widen out the channels. Maybe a file but I've never needed one.
>>
>>32645462

I paid $160 for mine about 10 years ago. Some tips you should know, if it doesn't cycle reliably CNCWarrior has a new gas plug you can get, i have one in mine and it fixed the problem:

http://www.cncwarrior.com/59-66-Yugo-SKS-Gas-Valve-p/20852.htm

Also Murray's anti-slamfire firing pin is a good modification:

https://murraysguns.com/sks-firing-pins/

One other thing to remember is that the barrel on the Yugo M59/66 SKS isn't chrome lined so if you shoot corrosive primed ammo out of it be sure to scrub the inside of the barrel with a 50/50 mix of ammonia and hot water immediately afterwards.
>>

>>
>>32653303
You're right anon, I'm sorry.
>>32653232
To REALLY counteract the corrosion, you need to use HOT bleach and ammonia.

PROTIP: To counter corrosive primers, neutralize salts with regular-ass bottled water you have on hand, no need to get fancy with it. Then clean as normal.

No need to bring even more caustic chemicals into the firearm maintenance process than we already use. You'll thank yourself when you don't get Alzheimer's.
>>
>>32645462

Russian SKS's go for $500. Should have just paid a bit more for one of those.
>>
>>32653303

>>
>>32653508

ITT: Dr. Anon lets us know that to prevent alzheimer's, don't use ammonia to clean your Mosin.
>>
Since we're /SKS advice/ in here: I just bought a Romanian SKS for $300. It's ugly, but the internals are in good shape. Did I do gud?
>>
>>32653250
>>32653303

>>
Yugo m59s are goat but m59/66 is just aids
>>
>>32653781
