Does /k/ recommend the Trench gun?

Yes...
>>
>>32639561
What would be better?
>trench gun that has so much force it carves out a trench with every shot
or
>trench gun that shoots literal trenches, burying enemies in piles of dirt spewing out of the muzzle
>>
>>32639604
Then, yes
>>
>>32639614
Wouldn't that be the same thing?
>>
>>32639614
The first option would literally obliterate enemies but the other would pacify them with dirt. Option 1 please.
>>
Get the ithaca 37 or winchester 12
>>
>>32639614
Isn't a trench defined by the hole, ie the absence of dirt therefore the second one shoots nothing?
>>
>>32639561

yes, but only if you intend on getting a sword bayonet
>>
>>32639561
I dont know why but i think this is one of the sexiest guns ever made
>>
>>32639561
I highly recommend it. It's just such an icon and historic firearm. As you know, Americans took shotguns into World War 1s, because we're goddamn Americans. We knew what shotguns could do in the trenches and goddamn they did it well. Did you know however that the Germans actually had the temerity in September of 1917 to lodge a formal protest (sorry, I do believe I just got so overcome by the awesomeness of my M1897 shotgun that I said September 1917 instead of September 1918) saying that the Winchester '97 was a violation of the Hague Convention and the civilized rules of war.

Well, civilized? Maybe. Rules of war? I don't think so.

The US government took a look at the shotguns and said "You know what? Aren't you the aren't you the bastards who came up with the idea of flamethrowers? Didn't you fuckers invent poison gas and start using it too? You know what? We're not going to stop using shotguns and if you execute any Americans for using shotguns we're going to execute all of our German prisoners too. So how do you fucking like that?"

Guess what: Six weeks later the war was over. That's how they liked it.

While I love historic firearms like the Winchester 1897 or M12, they're just 12 gauge pump shotguns.

When you buy one, you're buying the name and history, and will fetch a high price tag from dealers who know some sucker will pay out the ass for a historical firearm.

Go the cheaper route and get a Mossberg 500/590 or Remington 870 and be done with it. You'll have a good shotgun that won't hurt your bank account.

Are you a USGI in the pacific theater?
A mafioso/bootlegger in the prohibition era?
An Italian cyborg assassin schoolgirl?

If you answered no to all of those questions, the 1897 trench gun might not be the right fit.

Ithaca is producing new 37s I think

>>
>>32645639
Ithica 37's manufacturer after, I wanna say the late 80's/early 90's, no longer slamfire as they no longer have the absence of a trigger disconnector. I know it's a double negative, it's the weekend fuck you future grammer nazi anon.

A tranche gun would cause the most structural damage

>shoots poorly structured loans at the enemy until their economy and means to wage war callapses

The work fine just kinda rough.Once wore in they get pretty smooth plus the chink copys can still slamfire.

Trenchgun is my dream gun

I've head that only the trenchgun variant of the M1897 slamfires or do all M1897s slamfire?

If so I'd settle for any M1897 I can get, I'm a poorfag and I probably couldnt afford a Trenchgun.
>>
>>32645173
Nah, I typed it all up by hand. If you look at the first line of the third paragraph you can find a fuck-up.
>>
>>32647400

I will list the shotguns that can slamfire off the top of my head. All winchester 1897s,model 12s Remington model 12 All marlin pumps made till the 1960s Stevens 820b Stevens 520 and 620.Pre mid 1960s high standard flight king sears and robuck Ithaca m37s made before the 80s
As a rule its smart to check any pump made before 1960 to see if it slam fires.
You also need to make sure its safe to slam fire the guns.Hold the trigger down and slowly close the gun into battery if the hammer drops right as it chambers your good if it rides the bolt or drops early it needs to be taken to a smith cause the timing is bad.
Also all that shit about them lacking a trigger disconnecter is horse shit otherwise the hammer would ride the bolt or drop to early. They actually tend to have some kinda auto sear like set up.Sense the action requires user input to function its not classified as a machine gun.The main reason it was fazed out was lawyers cause Johnny dipshit couldn't keep his finger off the trigger while loading his gun and blew his head off.

>>32639561
not realy no one really need old war wagon these more for kill than sport, id say tay away get a good mossberg 500 in mossy oak good for gobblers bucks even fish and squirrel small game slsugs for hme defense
>>
The 1897 hammer bolt mechanism is obsolete. It's cool but having a long piece of metal slam back at your hand every pump isn't a good thing. The rest of the shotgun is virtually identical to modern designs so just buy a quality new one.
>>
>>32649603
No slamfire. If your to much of a bitch to deal with the hammer get a model 12.

What purpose requires slamfire? It's like fanning a revolver. Looks cool as shit, but has no tactical advantage.
>>
>>32645639
>>32645643

Slamfire was covered in the NFA as a "destructive device" so they had to install features to prevent that.
>>
>>32651050
Then why the fuck are those new Chinese 1897s being imported with the ability to slamfire with out a tax stamp.
Pretty fucking sure your full of it
>>
>>32651153
The new chink 97s have a trigger stop.
>>
>>32651160
No they dont.
I work at a gun store we got 3 of the things they all can slam fire.
Unless you can provide a proper source your full of shit.
Unless your referring to those stupid things made by cobray back in the late 80s

you should blue the bayonet tho

To make a hole in dirt, first you need dirt to make a hole in.
You cannot make a hole in air, unless you got a vacuum chamber.

What is that? A modified modern shotgun?
>>
>>32647573
So only older shotguns can slamfire?

I've been saving up for my next gun and was hoping yo buy a trenchgun or another older shotgun, may be a stupid question but will M1897s take regular 12ga shells or do I have to be careful and shoot lighter loads?

I ask because at the end of the day some of these shotguns are 110 years old and I know rifles like the M1 need a certain grain load to fire it safely
>>
>>32654010
It's an Ithica 37 with a short barrel
>>
>>32639561
It was so effective in the trenches that Germans wanted to make using it a war crime.

Do recommend.

There are new shotguns that slam fire, but it's the shotgun equivalent of turning your pistol sideways. It isn't any faster or more accurate than using a trigger properly. If you want to fire that quickly get an autoloader.
>>
>>32654040
Most 1897s should handle light loads
>>
>>32645290
>do you like historical, collectible guns?
>me too! thats why i spend my money on shitty modern weapons that fire the same ammo, and you should too!
