Hello I was thinking today, what's the point of a handgun hold open on the last round? I realize that it is a good idea since it's faster to slingshot and go into battery for your next mag as opposed to racking all the way back, and also it shows when you're empty.
Do rifles do this? Do some of them do this? Why or why not?

Yes, so that you can pop a mag in and load without having to pull the damn thing backwards.
Not all of them, but a lot do
ARs do
Most AKs do not
>>32630292
Ar-15 already does it.
M1 already does it.
SKS already does it.
All of them already do it.
All semiautos hold open when empty or else the next round would not chamber in.

>Most AKs do not
You don't know that's why.
>>32630292
shoot a gun, then tell me what the point is.
>>32630292
Have you never even watched a video of someone shooting a rifle? Jesus...
Noguns piss me off

I have handguns, have never fired a semi auto rifle. I just never thought AR's would do this because i've never really noticed a charging handle being held back. Guess I never paid attention
>>32630292
Even some military bolt actions do this.
For the same reasons.
>>32630439
Yeah the charging handle dosen't move on an AR but the bolt still does. Unlike the Ak where the charging handle is attached to the bolt group.
Good semi autos have last round bolt hold open, then also a lever that functions like the slide release.
In my opinion every fighting rifle in use in the current year should have LRBHO with a bolt release.

PTR91 doesnt
>>32630867
correct
definitely a disadvantage
>>32630396
Pretty much all AK's don't have a bolt hold open on the gun you fucking idiot. Unless you are using a shitty bho mag.

Most modern ones do, but many older semi auto designs do not, like the Colt 1900 and 1903

If they did, the magazine would get FUCKED by the mjolnir that is the PTR carrier
