Hi /k/,
I've bought into the 1911 meme for years and would like to know some opinions on the model/if there is a particular flavor that'd best suit a first time pistol owner.
I've had rifles and shotguns through my life but moving to the city has me thinking smaller is better.
Any thoughts or opinions?

Buy one exactly how you want it because it's cheaper than buying a gun and having a smith do all the shit you want to it.
Spend a little money too, I really like my Springfield 1911s and am glad I didn't go with something cheaper like RIA.

Ruger SR1911. Really nice for the price and US made.

1911 would be a pretty good first handgun.
I love my citadel 1911 paid 500 for it new and ive put 3800 rounds thru it.Ive only had 2 failures and those were with a shitty 12 round mag.
Word of advise dont use duracoat just leave parkerized finish on it.

Has Auto Ordnance cleaned their act up? They used to be jamtastic horrible things with lousy QC.

My favorite is Dan Wesson. But that's just me.

Yes, like 10 years ago when Kahr bought them.

I just recently got the Remington R1 Commander for about $650. I enjoy it.

Does your 1911 not have a coating?
1911 is known to be easy to handle and shoot decently, gotta get a decent one
however, they aren't drop safe which to me indicates a primitive, dangerous design
get an H&K VP9 or berretta px4

I sandblasted off the oringal finish and duracoated it.Ive redone it 3 and every time the duracoat refused to stick. So i got sick of it and just took a scotch bright pad to it and left it with the worn look.
Heres a pic of it with the orignal finish.

If you believe that meme, get one with a series 80 style firing pin safety.
Or a titanium firing pin.
