Is it safe to say that the M2 Carbine can be considered an assault rifle? Similarly, its ammunition the .30 carbine is crossing the line between pistol round to intermediate round.

Is it select fire?
No?
Then no it's not an assault rifle.
>>32612470
The M2 is select fire
>>32612470
M2 is select fire, dumbfuck.
>>32612470
Ho boy

You fucking retard.

>Is it select fire?
>No?
>Then no it's not an assault rifle.
I ain't even OP, but you need to remove yourself - your stupid is off the charts
>>32612447
I'd say it's more of an SMG
>>32612447
Just leave it as a pistol caliber and fuckoff with the headache. Also, it doesn't look scary enough to be a salt gun.
>>32612512
What pistols are chambered in .30 carbine?
>>32612519
I head only a few Revolvers
>>32612519
my dad has a ruger, in 30 carbine, think its a blackhawk
>>32612512
Why would we call a round with "carbine" in the name a pistol cartridge? Even its parent case .32 Winchester was developed for semi-auto sporters.
The AMT Automag III is a Pistol in .30 Carbine
>>32612447
Technically that makes sense but .30 carbine doesn't really seem like an intermediate cartridge. It's more like .357 out of a rifle. The French had some 1907 winchesters they made full auto in ww1, and .351 is pretty similar to .30 carbine so are those assault rifles too?
>>32612470
>>32612519
Automag III
I think there's another semi auto handgun (not including the enforcers or whatever the fuck those cut down M1 carbines were called), but I can't remember it off the top of my head.
>>32612447
the stg-44 fires a 7.92x33mm cartridge, .30 is 7.62x33mm so yeah it probably should be.

That actually looks pretty cool with the barrel cut down for some reason. How are you suppose to aim it without a front post tho?

Close encounters of the Red kind or a tunnel rat special.
>>32612470
Good meme
>>32612662
.30 carbine is roughly in between an intermediate cartridge and a magnum handgun cartridge in terms of energy it delivers. It's limited by its low case capacity due to its non bottlenecked shape.
>>32612447
>considered an assault rifle
couldn't the same logic mean that it could also be considered an smg.
>>32612447
.45 will stop a jap better than a clip in your carbine.
-Home Box Office.
>>32612447
Imagine if the US army had used this as their general-issue rifle during the war.
>>32612447
An Asault Rifle has to have a cartridge with an effective range out to at least 400 m. The .30 Carbine cartridge's effective range is only out to 200 m.

You pray, Anon.
>>32612447
I would say the M1 carbine is a PDW and is the grandfather to weapons like the P90 and H&K MP7. The cartridge it fires straddles the line between pistol and intermediate rifle round much like those aforementioned weapons. It was much more compact than anything else of the era, much like how modern PDWs are super compact and of course the whole concept behind the M1 carbine was to arm non combat personnel with something more effective than a handgun but much more convenient to carry than a full size infantry rifle. Which is also the premise for modern PDWs and was exactly how FN marketed the P90.

M2 carbine ban when?
>>32612470
Inrange did a good video on this

>>32613961
M2 is already nfa
>>32612447
the M2 is actually classified as a personal howitzer
>>32612447
More of a personal defense weapon
Never was issued in replacement of a rifle more of a replacement of a pistol
It is more handy than the heavy m1 Garand though and it's not as powerful as an actual assault rifle.
>>32612519
>>32612447
Technically it could but due to the ballistics of .30 Carbine and its intended role it is probably better described as a proto-PDW.
>>32618957
Considering the BFR exists does that make 45-70 a pistol cartridge.
>>32619047
Yes, but only for the bold.
>>32612447
Is .30 carbine about as powerful .357?
>>32621142
It has the power at 100 yards that a 357 revolver has at the muzzle.
Which sounds nice, but all pistols and pistol calibers are a dice roll when it comes to lethality. You can ask any paramedic and they will all have stories along the lines of a guy taking a whole mag out of a 1911 to the back and living while some fat dude takes one .22 up the armpit and died on the scene.
But you've got 20 shots with a Carbie so it makes up for it a bit.
