I'm trying to decide between my next gun, AK74 or RPK. I have no idea what to do, for ak74 i'd probably go slr104. I don't know anything about RPK's though, isn't it realistically just a heavier ak?

Yes, it's an AK with a stronger 1.5mm receiver, stronger front trunnion, and heavy barrel.

Had a AES10B, traded it for an ACOG, it's too heavy (4u) and considering I have two other and it's pointless to own one.

pretty much.... It has a longer, thicker barrel for ~150fps gain and heat dissipation, thicker receiver, etc etc.
Some oldtime magazine did a article on it, and said its actually less accurate than a standard AK (doesn't group as well), but they were shooting some goathearders RPK, so it may have been shot out.

They'd be very wrong, especially if it was an RPK and not an RPK-74. It was almost definitely abused in some way, shot out, fucked crown, corroded bore, who knows.

Probably. And iirc it was a RPK non74.

BUt they did say they could get the groupings to 'hop up' at distance by pressing down on the handguard and weighting the bipod, essentially bow-ing the gun. Something about quick elevation adjustments without having to mess with the rear sight.

Can't find a proper RPK collar so I put a harris bipod on with a clamped cantilever rail. Works great but I am slightly embarassed by how bubba it looks.

I'd believe it either way. I think it has to do with the bipod and putting inconsistent pressure on the barrel. Mine's plenty accurate, but there's a big POI shift depending on whether the bipod is in or out. And I'd think that standing and firing with the bipod out would probably change it quite a bit vs going prone too, but I've never tested it.

You can always get another rpk at some point and just leave your current one in the DMR-ish look. I think it looks pretty good. Or send it off to one of those companies that turns guns into sexy tabuk clones.

I'd always choose a normal ak over an rpk if I had to pick one. I'd much rather have an ak-74 style brake etc than a pointlessly thick barrel/receiver weighing me down.

Sure it does. Thicker barrel profile, larger front trunnion, and 1.5mm receiver are the main differences between an AK and an RPK.

You are right though, it'd be nice if it came with a cleaning rod and folding stock. I think there are some 14x1mm 74-style brakes floating around, I haven't seen any in a while though.
