Been awhile, /k/
Scale of 1-10, how illegal is it to cut down my shotgun by hacking off the barrel at the mag?
Complication: If i replace shoulder stock with pistol grip, is it more, less, or the same amount of illegal?
In Louisiana, btw.
Pick related --> not mine, would i be fucking up huge to do this?

The barrel can't be under 18", the entire length can't be under 26".

Basically this. Though beware if you go to sell it later to keep the stock, or get a full length stock otherwise you're selling an AOW [which is legal cause it's a smoothbore over rifled] and depending on the state it alters a wait time if you have one. Other than that go nuts, it's fun, pic related, mine.

I cut the barrel and cut and shaped the grip on the far right Mossberg.
Barrel needs to be more than 18" long the the muzzle to the bolt face of a gun in battery. Look up specifics of how the ATF measures that shit and don't fuck it up because THEY WILL shoot your dog then take you to prison for anus dilation if you cut the thing too short. Factory short barrels are cut to 18.5" and that's what I cut mine to (compare to the shotgun next to it).
Overall length of the gun also needs to exceed 26".
Put the barrel in a vice, make sure you cut it straight, and file it smooth because burrs will fuck up the way the gun patterns.
Do some research on grip angles if you're how make one because a bad grip angle on a stockless shotgun isn't something you're gonna enjoy shooting.
Again, if you fuck it up you can ruin your gun or end up in prison so do your research and don't be a retard.

It's not a AOW if its barrel is >18" and the OAL is >26" though.
You seem to be implying that it's illegal to sell a pistol-grip shotgun and that's completely untrue. Legally aa shotgun with the correct barrel length and OAL isn't legally distinct from a Mossberg Cruiser

Don't forget to make that barrel 1/2 an inch longer in case that ATF dowel is in government inches.
>>32608036
If the barrel is 18" and it has a pistol grip, I can pretty well guarantee OAL is <26".
>>32608036
Not even a little bit. It's not illegal, it just changes the definition per BATFE from 'shotgun' to 'other', for that specific firearm. Perfectly legal to buy and sell, but a pistol grip 'ONLY' [as in not a pistol grip with a full stock] makes it an 'other' firearm on a 4473, and in IL at least changes your wait time from 24 hours to 72 hours. Mossberg 500 Cruiser with a Pistol Grip and an 18.5" barrel has an OAL of 31". Have you never held a shotgun? Do you honestly believe that their recievers are less than 6" long? They aren't.
>>32608056
But that's wrong you retard
>>32608108
And my 870 with an 18-and-a-hair barrel and birds head is 26.25" long.
Not my fault one company's retarded enough to have a foot of receiver when everyone else gets by with 6-7".
>>32608133
Considering a birdshead contributes significantly to the length of a firearm and Remington receivers aren't noticeably smaller than Mossbergs (compare the two in the picture, ejection port is >3" in both), I see a couple options here:
1) Your barrel isn't 18"
2) You don't own the gun in question
>>32608080
Pretty sure you need to cut the ATF a $200 check before you manufacture an AOW bro...
>>32608133
No it's not you lying motherfucker, shut your mouth.
>>32607779
Only way to get something like your pic legally without a Form 1 is to buy a factory gun with a pistol grip (like a 500 Cruiser), swap the grip for a birdshead, then cut the barrel so the length is >26" overall. And it has to be a factory pistol grip gun.
If it was manufactured with a stock on it you're illegally manufacturing an SBS or AOW, which is a good way to get your dog shot and your shit pushed in.
This is because legally-speaking the Mossberg Cruiser isn't legally a "shotgun" but a "firearm." The difference being that "shotguns" have stocks.

If you want to go under 18" barrel/26" OAL, then NFA form 1 and all that happy horseshit.

Wtf are you talking about? Where do you live that this is law???

The NFA is nonsense. Did you not know this?

Wtf are you talking about, everything he said is correct.

Youre right that it is a other weapon not a shotgun but its not illegal to put a pistol grip on a regular shotgun that has a 18"barrel and is over 26oal
Thank you /k/ you're all still retarded and somehow right. I will probably be back someday.
>>32608498
...show me where I said it was? OP's specifically asking about the legality of cutting aa shotgun barrel to the length of the mag tube.
>>32608498
>Youre right that it is a other weapon not a shotgun
No, it's not an AOW. It's a "Firearm" because the OAL is >26". Which is why the barrel length restrictions of "shotguns" don't apply to it.
If it's got a smoothbore barrel <18", no stock, and OAL <26", only then is it an AOW, and you need a Form 1 to manufacture it.
>not illegal to put a pistol grip on a regular shotgun that has a 18"barrel and is over 26oal
Literally no-one has said that's illegal

You posted a picture of something that is legally a "firearm", not a shotgun.
