The ELG is a proof marking that means it was made in Belgium by one of a hundred gun factories in the 19th century. Yours is a Smith and Wesson top break style that's pretty common, under $300 in good looking condition, I wouldn't worry too much about the surface pitting but it would be wise to remember it was designed for a black powder cartridge. Not saying six rounds of smokeless 38 Smith & Wesson would blow it up but if 38 Special fits I wouldn't try it, could even be 38 Colt but unlikely. Best to buy a modern box of black powder cowboy loads even if you decided to use it as a defensive weapon for some reason.
