I dunno about a hand held version, but a pintle (please correct my spelling if I'm wrong) mounted version with a 35" barrel that fits over the shoulder a la the gausshog cannon from the halo series would be pretty cool. Especially if we offered tround conversions and made the cylinders and barrel swappable for things like 14.6x114, 20mm Vulcan, 20mm Souza, and other bigass rounds.
No, maybe we're not looking at taking down tanks or hunting deer, but ultra-long-range target shooting with this sort of thing would be cool as fuck.

I don't think a pistol length barrel is going to be able to take full advantage of the energy stored in a 50. bmg.

Not a problem when you have a fucking .50 BMG autorevolver.
I mean, seriously. Noun that shit to a small wagon (like those old field artillery pieces) and bring it to a nice ridge and you have an anti material rifle that kicks ass. Don't like semi auto only? Add a crank and you have a 6 shot .50 BMG Gatling gun (and because lolcrankpowered, it's still Civillian legal)

We could even make a drop in kit that lets it feed from M2HB links.
Think a crank powered M2 that can be pulled off its mount and swapped to six round cylinders for slightly more portability.
Like the 20mm Barrett prototype that went over the shoulder, only successful.

How about a minaturized m2?
One that is man-portable, and weighs under 10kg? And have some kind of shock-absorber in the stock for recoil control

I actually saw a .50 round in a M2 on a sandbagged tripod blow up in the feed tray in Bosnia because the gunner didn't pay attention when he was doing the head-space and timing. The feed tray bowed into a "U" shape and we all got peppered with little brass pieces from the shell. The guy on the trigger got the entire bottom of the case embedded in his kevlar, which definitely save his life. I'm still amazed none of us got hurt from that one.
