>not waterproof
>not windproof
What's the big deal?
>>
>>32598201
It's reliable. And "muh soviet specnaz", even if it's not quite true.
>>
>>32598201
Don't the rebels in the Rogue one wear these?
>>
>not waterproof
Just because you can't swim in it doesn't mean it won't keep you dry, mine works fine as a raincoat
>>
>>32598201
The real ones are waterproof.
They're not for wading proof though.
>>
>>32598201
They are windproof and they are very water resistant, just don't stand in the rain
>>
>>32598201
Its a durable and cheap outer layer for dry/cold conditions.
>>
Considering getting one as a replacement outerlayer but why a cotton liner instead of wool?

Does anyone know if this is easily replaceable?

Leave it to the russians to do things 60% perfect and fuckup everything else so badly it has to be redone.
>>
>>32598201
slavboos
>>
cheap and cheeki
just like moist nugget and sks
/k/ is poor slavboo
>>
Whats its advantages over a goretex shell? Price?
>>
>>32598201

the big deal is you'll look stupid in public with it on mostly anywhere besides slavic warzones

which is why /k/ wears them in public
>>
>>32599034
Canvas breathes much better and is much more durable. Not as good for warm/wet or cool/wet but better for cold. Below freezing you dont need to worry about the wet so much, so canvas is good for that.

Ive been using my for 5 years and it still holds up pretty well, its not as water resistant anymore but still windproof, and works fucking perfectly as an outer layer, i use it in +10 to -40>>32598248
>>
>>32599088
How well does the crotch fit for tactical squatting applications?
>>
>>32599088
Whoops quoted a random post. You should be able to edit posts
>>
>>32599095
Theyre baggy enough you can wear them over 3 other layers, but elastic enough you can also wear it over a light underlayer for warm weather, so theres all the room for squatting.

Yup.
>>
>>32598201
Slavic wannabes love anything Soviet, despite it being subpar.
>>
>>32598201
>>not windproof
that's where you're wrong kiddo
>>
>>32598201
Okay, so what IS a good option for a windproof, waterproof outer shell for innawoods operatin'?
>>
>>32599118
You guys cooking a squirrel? Rabbit? Looks cozy. The suit too.
>>
>>32599118

the guy with the sneakers and the remmington 870 should probably sell the remmington 870 and just get an adidas tracksuit and some nicer sneakers with some gold jewelry
>>
>>32598201
Relatively cheap and durable. Initial use for windy conditions in mountains ( "gorka" is diminutive of "gora" - "mountain"). Stays intact if you rip through nasty mountain bushes. But if you get wet in it - it's almost impossible to dry up. So mostly people buy it because its "spetsnaz wear" etc.
>>
>>32599590
Any US issue goretex usually holds rain quite well, however under heavy storms water is bound to filter through eventually.

The gorka has the advantage of being heavy enough to keep you warm down to 10-5°C without any additional thermal layer (i use it with just a moisture absorbing shirt under it), while also being windproof. So if you dont like wearing too many layers of clothing that is a good option.
>>
>>32599590
Polycotton smock for durability and practicality. Softshell for water resistancy. If you're out for longer there's no way around having a poncho or goretex as well.
>>
>>32599551
>what is unprocessed cotton coated in waterproofing

I can tell you from experience that they work fine in anything less than a hurricane
>>
>>32598649
>The real ones are waterproof.
No they aren't.
The weave is water and wind resistant but no 'proof' on either account.

>>32598661
>just don't stand in the rain
Not really an option sometimes.

>>32599756
Ponchos kinda suck and are borderline worthless without rain pants.
>>
>>32598201
You know there are sprays you spray on fabrics that renders them hydrophobic, and thus, waterproof-ish against rain.
>>
>>32600298
>Not really an option sometimes.
Then bring gortex or a poncho, like fuck, Gorkas are meant to be windproof cold weather outer layers, that's it. They're called mountain suits for fucks sake
>>
>>32601673
There are jackets that you can wear all day, every day... and they don't suck massive balls in the rain. Gorka's are not one of them.
>>
>>32601691
That would be a hard shell, which is not what a gorka is, all I'm saying is that Gorkas were designed for a specific purpose and work really well for that purpose. Gorkas are cheap, come in a variety of camos and colors you can't get in many other places, and do their job well.

It's not windproof but it's perfect because it keeps you from getting windchilled but still breathes. It also keeps you pretty dry in the rain so long as you're not standing in a torrential downpour. They're lightweight and good all-weather clothing imo. Just shed the jacket as needed.

t. Gorka 1 (afghanistan) and 3 (most popular) owner. I live in Florida, and I'm fixing to buy a Gorka 4.
Guy on right with the PKM is wearing a Gorka 1
>>
>>32601703
And I'm saying, cotton duck is not the best material for a jacket. I know it's cheap and durable and russian and perhaps even well made, but a softshell shits all over it in the rain... and in a drizzle, and when you get sweaty, and whatever other reason you got yourself wet. Next up would be some kind of polycotton shell, which is still drying a hell of a lot faster than cotton. Guess what the american army issues, or any other first world army out there. NOT COTTON.
>>
>>32601835
a soft shell shits all over it for any purpose unless you plan on body surfing down a mountain or being lit on fire. russaboos while find a way to justify it no matter how shitty it is.
need that picture of that pube bearded ginger wearing one in the pnw soaked to the bone but still singing its praises.
>>
i like my gorka. warm, water resistant, and pretty affordable.
going to a snow covered range is the perfect weather for a gorka suit.

What if I am Slav and have Gorka 4?
>>
After getting sympatex rain gear I don't think anything can really beat it for wind and water protection. It's 100% waterproof, you can use that shit as a tarp if you want.
>>
all these meme gorka owners
>>
>>32598201
Durable as fuck. And you can get treatment solutions for making it water proof.
>>
>durable
>look cool
>/k/ is full of slavaboos

Recently picked up a fleece lined one, god-tier for winter.
