Some Rules Everyone needs to know

Apart from the obvious (be safe, be courteous, don't be an ass, etc.) there's a few specific to where we'll be.

Since it is a national forest we will not be able to have any weapons out in the campsite, it seems to be a gray area having them out for cleaning, but the FS personnel I talked to said it's better to just leave them locked in the cars to be safe.

The range is actually located in the Choccolocco WMA AND Talladega NF, so what that means is there are both federal and state laws we have to follow.
The only one we have to worry about is that we take the most direct route while going to and leaving the range (this is somewhat of a given, but basically don't go trail riding with your guns in the car) and any weapons must be unloaded and in a case. This is part of a cased gun law that has to be complied with, but only in the WMA.

TL;DR When we leave the campsite we will go straight to the range, keep your guns unloaded in a case.

I hashed all this out with the DNR supervisor and I have his contact info for if anyone DOES try to give us trouble.

The itinerary is pretty simple

Everyone gets there and makes camp Friday evening/night, I probably won't get there until 7 along with some other anons I know of.

Saturday we get up and eat, then pack up and head to the range. Plan on bringing lunch to the range.

Unfortunately the range rules do not allow skeet or trap shooting so we will not be able to throw clays.
However, the poorman's 3gun and the blanket shoot are still a go so plan on that.
For blanket shoot just bring a $10-$20 prize to put down if you want to participate.

Probably will stay until it starts to get dark, then back to camp.
Make sure if you want to clean your gun do it before we leave the range.

Sunday will be breaking down and cleaning the sites, the CMP long-range range is pretty close by if anyone wants to go and hit some 600 M stuff if its open.

Remember to bring basic camping supplies and plenty of water, its a primitive site.
There will be grills there so if a few people could bring some charcoal that would be helpful.

Here's some of the targets I've got currently.

>Paper for 50 and 100 M
But my buddy that had a truck isn't going so we'll see how much of it I can actually haul.

If anyone else has some targets please feel free to bring them, the more the merrier.

Forgot to put it above, the range has a 25 M and a 100 M berm with 6 shooting benches and no cover.
It is a short walk from the parking lot, so be prepared to haul your gear a little ways.

so i drove out there today to get my bearings, and i found that the phone GPS wanted to use country 533. if you are in a car do not use this road, they are most likely too pitted or too muddy for your car to make it. you can make it in a truck, but why would you want to when alternatives exist? instead use CR 548 (witch is what the "ranger station" reccommends to get to the camp or shootinng range, or use CR 500. both are much closer to being a road, and can be safely traversed by anything.

also i wouldnt advise driving to the range if youre in a car either, although you can probably do that one. i suggest carpooling instead.

Yeah that's the way I went when I visited the campsite.
Since there hasn't been any rain there for like over a week then I think the roads will be fine.

Hell even after a recent rain I was fine.

If you're in a car you will be fine driving to the campsite VIA CR 500.

There's a tiny bit of reception on a hill by the campground so I'll try to post when we're going to range if this thread is still alive.

Final day-before update

Looks like the best bet based on Heflin kommando's recent ride is going to be Hwy 9 to CR 500 if you're coming from I20.

Final count seems to be 20+, maybe closer to 25 but we'll see who actually shows up.

As said above a kind anon is going early and setting up signs for everyone, so just look for the /k/ube.

Remember to drive safe and bring plenty of food and water.

Temperature looks like its going to be rather warm for this time of year so take that into consideration.
