I lucked out with my girlfriend. She's from San Francisco and is about as left as Americans get but still has no problem with guns (other than the NRA, but I think that's just because I haven't taken the time that the NRA is only as powerful as it is because of all the actual members in it, rather than it's relatively shallow (in comparison to other PACs) pockets)

I haven't often been presented any opportunities to reveal my power level, but the single relevant instance of my doing so had an interesting outcome.

I'll try to keep it brief, because I never do these. Happened a few years back.

> Be young Califag (about 18)
> lifelong lover of guns and military tech/history
> Taking communications classes at a CC because I wasn't doing anything else at the time
> One of these classes asked us to present three separate arguments to the class and support them as our main project
> Not entirely sure what possessed me and decide to say fuck it
> My secomd argument is the best pro fun argument I could muster at 18 years old
> Didn't hold back at all
> Just short of SHALL-tier
> I pull out all the stops
> tyrannical governments, Nazi Germany, etc
> Class applauds awkwardly
> Teacher seemed to be a typical libfag professor
> She asks me what made me chose that as my topic
> I genuinely feel like I've made a mistake, but I'm already in this deep
> "I believe self-defense is a human right that extends even beyond the 2nd Amendment and I felt like sharing that belief with you today"
> After a few long seconds, she turns to the class and speaks
> Turns out she's the kid of European Jews that experienced the Holocaust firsthand
> Says the threat of an abusive government is something her parents taught her to fear all her life
> She agrees with me
> She fucking THANKS me personally for my argument and shakes my hand
> Commends my decision to 'voice an unpopular opinion and risk my grade'
> Two other guys approach me afterwards
> Turns out they shoot too
> Made two buds for the remainder of my time there
> Finish with a 97

I'll probably never do that shit again, but I was genuinely shocked at the outcome. I'll honestly never forget it.

Teacher later helped convinced me to major in economics and was a general bro every time I saw her until I transferred out.

Not so much that I wouldn't stand up for what I believe in, I try to do so as often as I possibly can despite how futile it often seems here. Probably just wouldn't risk it on quite that scale again, especially since I'm now hoping to transfer from my current school, something I've really only just started to believe I was capable of, and I have enough working against me as it is.

Anyway, I'm getting the fuck out of here first chance I get. These people can give me the education that leads to me having the means to buy whatever the fuck I want in some place where the things I believe in are celebrated.

That's a victory to me, and I'd rather not give these people anything to use against me because I don't fit into their idea of what a minority is supposed to be.
>>
>>32592714
Because the policies he enacted help corporations and their media shills make money and so they've spent decades lionizing him so that nobody will ever question those policies.

I'd point out that electing a loudmouthed celebrity corporate shill who may well have colluded with a foreign nation to manipulate his election, stacked his government with fellow shills, and whose actual policies almost invariably fucked over his own base while letting corporations rob the country blind sounds kind of familiar for some reason, but I don't want to get called CTR.

I'm >>32596055 and I get similar shit because I'm a minority. Lots of the people I grew up with can't seem to understand how I can reconcile having the beliefs I do, and it always comes down to that 'us vs them' shit. I usually tell them that if other gun owners/conservatives don't like me because I'm black that's perfectly within their rights. I still support their right to keep and bear arms and I know that unlike all the 'tolerant' people I'm surrounded by at school, they generally support the same for me and that's a complex kind of kinship, but this is fucking America so bubba and I get to have that.

Their relationship with you and other gay people somehow manages to be more complex, but I know more gay friendly gun owners than I do gun friendly leftists, so I guess it is what it is.

As a bisexual man I feel this shit strongly. I didn't keep a lot of conservative or even right leaning friends until recently and I was constantly brow beaten for being of the Alphabet Soup and expressing interest in firearms. It was all okay until I actually started buying them when I was 21. Suddenly people started acting like I was a timebomb. Granted, I do have a temper but rarely does it ever result in a physical altercation so it really stung that these people who helped me get a grasp on my sexuality would so readily drop me as soon as I stepped out of their arbitrary bounds. My partner at the time was a stereotypical hipster chick and obnoxious feminist type. She expressed dissatisfaction with my new hobby up to and after the time I had to defend both her and myself from punks shooting at my home. We broke up and now she lauds me as a "sexist, racist, gun fucker". Go figure. Fast forward and I start dating another hipster liberal but he actually listens and wants to learn about guns, their operation, and the myths surrounding them. He's really turned around and I take him to the range with me every chance I get. It always warms my heart and weirdly reassures me to see someone else in the same bind who has found a way around or out of it.

Yeah, people are retarded. A lot of liberals I meet can't seem to comprehend that I can have a life that isn't dominated by my sexuality. It's honestly pretty homophobic, and I've called some folks out on it before. It's hilarious to see them tripping over their tongues trying to be justify it in a PC way.
>>32598383
Yeah, I get you, dude. My fiancee is similar. She was on the fence leaning anti before we met. Now she's more okay with things. We disagree on a lot of things politically (a given, considering that I'm a moderate right winger and she's a Bernie booster), but that's okay because there's never any animosity like you see nowadays between liberals and conservatives, or from them to independents ("if you don't vote Hillary, you're voting Trump and I hate you!" and vice versa). We never get into yelling matches, we always agree to disagree, and we always end up finishing the day with some cuddles, a kiss, and a "goodnight, sweetie!" Some people don't understand how we can be together, and it boggles my mind that people can't comprehend that you can love someone who isn't a carbon copy of yourself.
>>32600599
I support a combination of government regulation and cap-and-trade. I think we should actually enforce our current environmental regulations and give them their fangs back, first off. You'd be surprised how much shit just gets kicked under the rug because it's cheaper for a corporation to dump shit in a waterway and pay the fine that it is to properly dispose of it in accordance with federal guidelines. Some things just slip by without going punished, too. That said, you can't just regulate shit away or just expect the market to handle it, whether you support one or the other or a combination of the two. The most important thing is educating the next generation to be environmentally-conscious.
>>
So many people here are brought up in such a one-sided environment that demonizes the opposition. What's worse is that they almost all toe the party line, so if you have any conservative tendencies whatsoever, you get all sorts of labels attached to you.
>>
>>32602673
That last part is pretty much my life plan at this point.
>>
>>32605385
> A lot of liberals I meet can't seem to comprehend that I can have a life that isn't dominated by my sexuality.

It's so bizarre to me how many people define themselves completely by their sexuality. Why would you limit your whole identity to revolve around a single aspect of who you are?
>>
>>32605516
I know, right? It's fucking mind-boggling. I mean, yeah, I like women, but at the end of the day I'm just a normal American woman who happens to like women. I have my own hobbies, I'm on my own educational/career path, and I have my own goals in life, and none of those things have anything whatsoever to do with my sexuality. Certain liberals seem to promote the whole "make being black or gay your whole life" thing just like certain conservatives seem to seem to promote the whole "make being a Christian or a gun owner your whole life" thing. It's just stupid.

There weren't even that many guns in the safe at the time, maybe 7 at the most and only 2 in the safe were mine an AR and a Marlin .45-70, plus my disassembled AR on the bench. The rest were my dad's rifles from Mississippi. My ex would have freaked out even harder if she saw my mom's handgun collection in the house.

My roommates gf was pretty made to find out she has been in our house while I own guns, as if I was going to shoot up the place or something. I don't understand these people and there thought process about guns.

Similar story, not too crazy though.

In my freshman year at CC, did a presentation in speech class on why our shitty state (NY) should allow more accessible concealed carry. Expecting the libs to oppose me in droves. Turns out, my professor lived much of her life in Texas and Arizona and took five minutes to tell the class about how she used to carry to defend herself from rattlesnakes. Several people came up to me during a break and told me how much they liked my speech.

Got a 75 on it, though. Don't know why.

I didn't grow up in CA but I live here now.

I grew up in Massachusetts which was rabidly anti-gun long before CA went full retard. Fortunately I grew up in a conservative family full of cops (my father was 3rd generation Boston PD).

Dad started taking me shooting when I was 7 and the local PD let the NRA run a youth program out of their their indoor range. I went twice/week grades 7-10.

Dad also kept loaded guns spread around the house because we lived in a shit neighborhood and even had his rifle rack mounted in our toy room. No shit. It was the only room in the house without any windows.

Guns were just always part of my life and wasn't into politics until I was an adult so never thought anything of it. My friends weren't into shooting but I didn't care. It was my thing, not theirs.

Grew up, spent four years in the Army, then head to LA to see the riots in '92. Met my wife the day I got there. Raised by her grandparents, her grandfather was a gunsmith. Loaded shotgun behind front door. OK, don't mess with him LOL. They're one of the few Reagan worshipping Hispanic immigrant families in LA. Not kidding, he heard I was Army and immediately in his broken English, "Ju like Reagan, m'boy?"

Moved back to MA, then defected to NH for muh freedoms. Build up a small arsenal. Three years ago move back to CA. Bring arsenal with me.

To be honest I don't have any anti-gun liberal friends in CA. I don't have many liberal friends to begin with because wife's family is HUGE and I have kids so they fill my life, and they all shoot. The few liberal friends I do have like to shoot too.

I keep hearing about anti-gun liberals in CA but can't seem to find them. I'm starting to think they only exist in the state legislature.

Eh, most her friends were dirt bags anyways. Obnoxious, callous, and immature for their age. The few decent ones got sick of her shit and have stuck with me and have been fantastic. She basically set an ultimatum after our split and just cut people she knew for years out.

I do miss her family though. Her cousins adored me as did her parents. Shit, her dad sold me his 1903A3 and it was my first bolt action. I miss them like hell, but what can ya do?
>>
>>32605385

He and I are much the same way. Oddly enough we met via Tinder and I was wary because I spotted pics of him at a Bernie rally so I almost turned him down. But, something in me made me pick him and I can honestly say I've never been happier. We can button heads on things, mostly due to my argumentative and blunt nature, but at the end of the day we still love each other and we know that having someone to challenge our thoughts helps us maintain a more rounded view of the world. His friends can't stand me since I'm not of the same alignment but we'be decided they can be petty cause I ain't going anywhere.

I'm helping him get a Ruger 10-22 for our one year since he wants a rifle but is still learning. Should be a good fit for him seeing as he is a lot smaller than me so most of my guns can rattle him a bit. I'm 6'5" 250lbs, so I could cart a field gun on my shoulder. He's about 5'4" 140lbs and given his cushy city life he never built much muscle.

This, exactly this. It drIves me up a wall when libs immediately assume I think a certain way because of my orientation. Which is odd, because I put off a "manly man" vibe in person. They are absolutely confounded when I don't follow in lockstep and insist on being myself.

Eyyyyy good for you guys for breaking out of the mold! That seems like a pretty difficult thing to do when the ABCDEFG community is so ideologically homogenous.

I'm excited by the fact that gun culture is expanding so quickly to include new demographics. It means we'll see more products, ideas, and just generally have a larger and better represented community.

It'll be a good day when fudds stop being the main voice of gun ownership.

I honestly prefer shooting .22s and PCCs. I'm 5'6" and .223 kind of hurts my shoulder after about 50 rounds because I'm a wimp.
>>32608014
Not a bulldyke, but not a lipstick lesbo. I think the slang term is "chapstick lesbian." Like I said above, I'm a short wimp, but I'm also into bushcraft and hiking and all that stuff, so I can handle myself. I'm pretty femme, but I wear flannel and Carhartt all day, every day (except for summer in the Valley, because then I'm all about chambray work shirts). Make of that what you will. I probably couldn't kick your ass, unless you're the animated skeleton of a Biafran child brought back from the grave to shitpost.

Interesting choice in starving african child.

I see you've been lurking in the Rhodesia and African Bush War threads.

Only time I've gotten shit for it was last year at this job I had with a bunch of idiot teenagers. Of course it's my fault for telling one guy (who actually expressed interested in guns, I didn't bring it up) so I told him I had some. After word got out every week it was, "hey, we're friends right?! haha! don't go and shoot the place up!"

It's annoying but other than that the anti-gun stuff isn't really on display anywhere. They're doing it underground it ain't out on display.

It is changing, slowly but surely. Still can't say that the blond twink I have toting my AR is my boyfriend at some ranges, but I do live in Utah so there can be an abnormal amount of shit flung our way at times. Soon enough, we will either weed out or learn to cohabitate with the fudds.

>>32609000

I grew up shooting 30-06 and 12 gauge buck in alfalfa fields so 5.56 and .308 is refreshing for me. You just gotta work up to calibers at times, no shame in that. What also helps is a good stock on what you shoot. I used to have an M4 stock on my AR but swapped it to a Magpul SL and all the sudden it was comfy as fuck. My Daniel Defense compensator also helped a ton. Not everyone is built like a brick shithouse as I am.

Honestly, I don't even feel anything when I look at women other than my fiancee anymore. Like, I can acknowledge when I see a woman that's hot/pretty/cute/whatever, but I get anything out of checking her out or feel any desire. I think that's just what happens when you go head-over-heels for someone, though. I don't even have sex or romance dreams about anyone but her anymore. I don't know any dudes that get this way once they get serious with someone, though, so maybe it's just a woman thing.

Huh. Y'all should talk about your feelings more. It's really fun to get all emotional and cuddle, even if you're just doing it platonically with your friends. If you're doing it platonically, it's even more fun if you get more than one other person in on it and get together in a big cuddle puddle.

>>
>>32609327
See, while that may be great to some not everyone is like that or really has time for such a thing. If someone tried to get me into a cuddle puddle to talk about feelings I would likely leave immediately. Like, that is just... weirdly intimate. Maybe it's cause I never got enough hugs as a kid but whatever.

I'd much rather grab a six pack, sit outside on my porch with a good buddy and run things that trouble me past him to either get a well needed ribbing, advice, or even consolation. Most guys do things like this, we resolve our issues and express feelings in different ways.

I know a lot of people would look at me like I'm fucking insane for wanting to turn down something like that. Yeah it's hot as fuck in orb, but I was so in love with her that I was just content having her, and I didn't want anything that could potentially break that. She was the also the only girl I ever went out with in this cuck state that liked guns.
