These. Been on 4chan for like 8 years. You fill out form SF86 (start getting references ready NOW). They interview you about the answers you put down on the form. The interview your references about the answers you put on the form. They ask your references for references you put on the form. That's about it. Don't lie, or if you do you'd better be really fucking consistent on your lie. I don't know how deep they'll go for your particular job. Certain military Intel jobs require polygraphs but most don't. I don't know about civilian jobs but I imagine they probably require additional screening on top of your TS clearance

Why would you want a clearance? Why would you want a job that requires one? There are far better jobs that pay much more and don't require someone harassing your neighbors with stupid questions.

Clearances are a joke, everyone convicted of espionage in the last 40 years is someone who had a clearance.

almost all denials are for poor credit/debt
they only care about things that can be held against you or allegiance to a foreign power

if you don't have close family in a country potentially hostile to the US, don't have excessive debt or poor credit, and don't have any connections to a foreign power or hostile organization, then you're fine

I remember reading about a guy who had a series of child porn charges and still got his clearance
the logic being that because it was all public record, it didn't matter because it couldn't be used to blackmail him

clearance is not a measure of character, it's a measure of your susceptibility to blackmail and bribery

The TS investigation isn't magical. While intense, it's based on A) available records and B) cross-referenced interviews. Nothing more. Yes, they are good at digging up public/medical records (and in a few cases, sealed records like juvi criminal) and MAYBE school records. So you need to own up to anything in these records.

>convictions
>tickets/ citations
>lawsuits
>bankruptcies
>credit issues
>serious disciplinary action in school (maybe)
>records of medical treatment( specifically surgeries, major traumas, chronic diagnosis, prescription of adhd / behavioural drugs)

Then they talk to your extensive refrences, and ask questions about some of the above shit, red flags like drug or gambling problems, or indications that you are hiding something.

They do not have your Internet browsing history
They do not know what you read
They do not know what tv shows you watch
They do not have your credit card receipts

These clearance threads leave me with the impression that alot of people think it's some kind of Hollywood know and and see all cloak and dagger affiar. It's just records and interviews. The investigation does not know or care about anything unless you tell them, a refrences tells them, or its available in official records.

You just need to be honest about everything that's going to come up in your records and make sure everyone on your ref list understands what the interview is about.
