Wrong side won
Europe should have taken notes
Generals incompetence is important to deal with
The union should have spent the extra money to field their troops with repeaters
Both sides should have tried and lower the amount of dieseases the men get

Different anon, but because maintaining the principle of exit is more important than some random slaves somewhere.
>>
>>32570988
I say that because it would have either lead to a sperate union where people have more control over their government or a joined union that may of avoid failed policies

Both

Yeah i know. But it did seem like we had better or more competent generals after that

Still avoidable when you issue your soldiers better equipment like coats and put more emphasis on your logistics

what is this? never heard of it. is it the right of a state to leave the union?

people like to downplay the role of slavery but it certainly played a MAJOR role in the civil war.

>20 negro law
>rise of the KKK after the civil war
>poor conditions for freed blacks in the south post civil war (literacy tests to vote for example)

i cant think of a single major issue that caused the civil war more than south not wanting to give up their slaves. the south was afraid of the shift that losing their slaves would've caused

The test was to keep blacks from voting. The democrats ran the south post civil war and they tried their best to keep the black man down during reconstruction.

>be in south
>be white
>learned how to read between the ages of 8-17 depending on available resources

>be black
>no one to teach you
>no books to read
>all you could do is pick cotton
>some cases blacks were whipped for learning how to read

there were also poll taxes and in some south state there was a "law" that basically extended slavery under the name of 'apprenticeship'

600k white men die so niggers can kill some more in the centuries to come. so you tell me. I dream of going back in time with billions of burrets, AKs, PSLs, Glocks, Lance-grenade individuel Mle F1 mortars, tactical nylon, camo uniforms, night vision, antibiotics and other drugs and a few armoure vehicles to joing the CSA. South had some of the greatest officers and field tactics in American combat history - Jackson's Shenandoah campaign is still studied today as it was practically flawless

North won with their superior production capacity + they sent endless waves of German and Irish immigrants into the meatgrinder, and won with sheer force of numbers - there's a reason Ulysses S Grant was called 'The Butcher'

whats funny about the whole "states rights" thing, is that both the north and south were trying to force new states to be either free or slave states without letting the new states decide for themselves

racism and slavery are two different things. The french think they are better than the spanish and that they moorish trash but they won't enslave them. Likewise in the minds of some at the time it was both immoral to enslave somebody but at the same time immoral to grant them the same rights. There is a huge difference between 2nd class citizenship and slavery.

we do live longer now though. It was easier to justify doing things early when you could die of diarrhea the next day or get bitten by a mosquito and dying of infection.

There is some degree of modern mans worth being less and less associated with what we knew as "manly" due to culture as a whole becoming more and more comfortable with the status quo. I'm 32 years old and i had to teach one of my peers how to swing and sharpen a felling axe. that in itself is kinda sad

I think the dude gets a bit of a bum-rap. The idea of the plains tribes standing to fight against, let alone beating the shit out of, nearly 800 US army troopers was laughable prior to July 1876.

>> The union should have spent the extra money to field their troops with repeaters

The breech loading carbines of Gen John Buford's cavalry brigade provided 2x-3x the firing rate of Confederate muzzleloaders. This extra firepower on the first day of Gettysburg might reasonably be credited with securing the high ground that ensured a strategic win in the battle.

no it wasn't. the tribes had many, many successful operations against federal troops
800 warfighers against similar odds was exactly what it turned out to be, a failure of leadership and tactics. Custer was a dipshit and a retrospectively, a monster.
>>
>>32573142
No it wasn't. It was about the Southern states not recognizing Lincoln's victory, later, Lincoln rolled out the emancipation act to boost numbers and shitfuck the southern economy.

I mean sure, slavery played a large factor in North-South tensions before the war and thereafter, but it certainly wasn't the reason for the first shot or the subsequent first shots

they did...but the Northern Plains tribes never gathered in the numbers to offer direct battle to that number of soldiers before.

the scale of the fighting on the Rosebud and Little Big Horn that summer had never been seen before in that part of the country.

>>
>>32574307
I'm guessing the total death count for the war, including civilian losses due to starvation, disease and general privations of war was close to 1 million.

southern whites lost a higher % of their population than france in ww1 which is staggering.
>>
>>32574305
>with no back up

huh? the summer 1876 campaign involved 3 army columns of which Custer and the 7th were one. the survivors of Little Big Horn were relieved the next day by Terry's column arriving from Montana.

Crook's column would have been on scene as well but for his defeat at the Rosebud...a defeat Custer didn't know about.

Doesn't matter if the specific wording is from after the war, it has been a very clearly understood sentiment since the founding of the nation. Anyone attempting to leave is a traitor, opposed to American values, and deserves nothing more than to be driven in to the sea.

The only mistake was letting southern subhumans surrender.

>I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was."
>If there be those who would not save the Union, unless they could at the same time save slavery, I do not agree with them.
>If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy slavery, I do not agree with them.
>My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery.
>If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.
>What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union.
>I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause.
>I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.

Not to mention if you didn't have tv/internet/video games/etc to distract and most of your efforts and years go into your craft, you're going to come out much more developed in said craft than modern day equivalent in terms of age.

Not those anons, but...

Slavery was more of a catalyst than a major underlying cause. The North and South have always been at odds before the abolitionists had a major play. South saw that the Union favored the North more than the South, and North saw that the South were whiny assholes and weren't satisfied with their share in government.

The South essentially wanted more state's rights and the ability to expand their economic power, and the North saw that as the South giving the bird to them.

slavery was the issue the major issue that not only defined the civil war but most of American political history from 1816 on-ward.

There can be no doubt that Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida and Texas seceded because Lincoln was a member of an anti-slavery party. South Carolina was pretty much led by absolute mad-men and the other big cotton states went along.

Virginia, North Carolina, and Arkansas seceded after the war had already started in protest to the demand they provide volunteers.

I'm pretty sure Louisiana drunk seceded and regretted it as soon they sobered up.

Tennessee never really fully seceded and like Missouri, Maryland and Kentucky the internal conflict between pro-union and pro-secession populations guaranteed a war.

New England got their panties in a bunch over the attack on Ft. Sumter, but many of the Mid-western states really lost their shit over the militarization of the Mississippi water-shed. They relied on the rivers to make their economy work.

Initially slavery was not the big reason people were shooting at each other but as the war went on it sure became THE big reason.
>>
>>32570860
It needs to happen sooner.
>>
>>32577457
Once the Emancipation Proclamation passed Slavery WAS the Issue. We can talk about Slave Rights and Economic Power, but both of those are firmly built upon the idea of Slavery (just read the CSA's constitution and what went on with any of the Compromises leading up to the war or the Ostend Manifesto)

It's the main reason Lincoln did it- it pulled any legitimacy out from underneath the Confederacy's rug.

In1857, the financial leaders of the Canaanite powers, the House of Rothschild, assembled to celebrate the wedding of Lionel's daughter, Leonora, to her cousin, Alphonse, son of James de Rothschild of Paris. At this gathering, Disraeli said,
"Under this roof are the heads of the family of Rothschild-a name famous in every capital of Europe and every division of the globe. If you like, we shall divide the United States into two parts, one for you, James, and one for you, Lionel. Napoleon shall do exactly and all that I shall advise him"(p. 228, "The Rothschilds," by John Reeves).
