That's all fine and good OP but you and I are all civilian gun owners. Most of us have the time, money, and inclination to realistically support any platform we choose and this is why many people have left the glocks for a better out of the box performing gun that requires very little if any modifications.

Just got a G19 Gen 4 yesterday and I'm ready to carry it right now after shooting 300 rounds through it.

What kills me is the undercut on the trigger guard and the grip texture. Shit rips my hands raw and it's unpleasant as hell.

Other than that, it's a damn size efficient 15+1 9mm

I can see your point about 1911s not fading into obscurity in the near future, they are(for the most part) decent and accurate firearms. However, their time has passed. They are fun on the range but thats about it. They simply do not have the reliability or capacity of polymer framed guns. The 1911s were good for what they were at the time, and yes they got us through many wars and conflicts but in the modern age, do not stand up very well. They were designed for ball ammo at the time and were the best of the best for their time. The polymer framed guns, be it Glock, XDs, Sigs, or whetever else, will continually out-perform 99% of 1911s on the market today.

Nearly any 1911 is a gamble when buying one. Sure, there are always reviews about any number of 1911s being ultra-reliable but there seems to be 2 negative reviews for each good one. The 1911s are just far to finicky with different ammo types, different mags, and different parts that can drastically decrease the reliability of the firearm. Polymer guns will continue to function reliably with quality parts and mags.

As far as the complexity issue, 1911s are not really all that complex, just different. They do require more work field stripping them than a polymer gun, which gives the polymer firearms an advantage, as they can be more quickly disassembled and reassembled under stress.

I do not agree with the DA/SA being a novelty, however. There are many quality firearms that still use DA and SA. Some folks prefer striker, others, SA or DA. Its all a matter of personal opinion.

You would be hard pressed to find a factory Glock 19, gen 3 or gen 4 for over $550. I bought a blue label 19 in 2011 for $400 out the door.

I would make a 80% polymer lower glock if i wanted a dedicated 22lr glock. That would really be the only reason for me.

If the options are to remain in place and get shot or take cover in a muddy ditch I can guarantee that most would choose the fucking ditch. Safetyless striker pistols are not safe for normal carry, the only people who favor this kind of guns are gangbangers who are most likely intent on shooting someone when they draw their pistol

DA/SA pistols should ONLY be used by law enforcement and home defense because they heavy trigger pull of the first shot is an important safety feature.

The trigger guard is OK I think. I'd rather if the bottom as flat but it's not terrible. I like the increased radius for the middle finger and the larger space inside (good with winter gloves, I'll hope).

But yeah, smooth for your own grip finishing. I might keep it smooth and put on a Hogue grip or I might look at cutting a checkered pattern into it. I don't mind the shallow squares of a normal Glock but I really hate the finger grooves.

No, that's why I run Glocks. First thing I did to mine is drop it on the concrete so the novelty feels wouldn't make me babby it, a common problem for me when I get new shit. If I need to disassemble my gun to make it work, chances are it is severly compromised (unless it's a HK in which case all bets are off). Gun don't fail and need to be taken apart because they are a little dirty (caveat: HKs do), they fail because they are full of crap. Incidentally, I have seen grains of sand lodged in Glock slide rails an the gun still worked.
