Whats the cheapest surplus rifle that could be used in a DMR role? I'm leaning toward a mosin but id like other opinions and options.
>>
>>32564816
dmr imply s scoped and none of the ww1 or ww2 surplusrifles can be scoped easily or cheaply. just buy an axis or other cheap modern boltaction.

Sorry, forgot that they are expensive in the US.

I'd say mausers of diffrent kinds and improved nuggets like the M39 are pretty accurate from what I've read. They mostly sport ironsights though.

anything else and you might as well buy some modern bolt action. it will be cheaper

If you werent retardedand got a K31 when they were still 300$, thatd be your best bet.
>>
>>32564816
Go with a modern bolt gun or semi auto in 7.62 Nato (Much cheaper and easier to feed than most milsurps), 6.5 Creedmore or some oher cheap full sized rifle cartridge (Like hot loaded .30-06), free float the barrel, and use a nice bipod. Anyhow, you can find Spanish Mausers in the $100-250 range in 7x57mm Mauser or converted 7.62 Nato. Another is an Ishapore Enfield Mk. III, Or Chilean and Argentine Mausers. The next in line for cheap bolt actions in 8x57mm Mauser are Yugo M48s, or Belgian M24/47 or M24/48, Czech vz. 24/52s, or tr M. 1924. I recommend Mitchell's Mausers to get some service grade M24/47s or M48s in the $200-300 range

to US gun owners, is there any reason to pay $1,500 for an SVT?
>>
>>32567359
No, its really not worth it. I can get a Luxembourg SVT for $700-750 US dollaryroos plus shipping and tax, problem is finding an FFL dealer who wants to deal with international shipments
>>
Is there a nagant thats acceptable to obrez?
i have a hex bolt with matching serials i dont want to use but i found a mismatched, beat to shit "spanish civil war" mosin. would that be acceptably bad enough condition to obrez without really owrrying about killing any "authenticity" or triggering the traditionalists?

If you want the cheapest surplus rifle, that would be a 1916 spanish mauser. They go for under $180 or so as of today. Buuuuuut the quality is not so great, so its up to you to decide whether its worth it to you or not.
>>
>>32567359
If you want a SVT, yeah. Otherwise no. But that's true of all milsurp.
>>
>>32568240
Just find a sporterized one. It's already been butchered.
>>
>>32568507
fair but depending on how bubba'd i might have to get a new stock, then fit it, buy the parts they obiouvsly just sliced off with a dremel, and grind those shitty carbattery welds and dear god what did he do to put this scope on. know what i mean?
>>

Not shilling anything, just wondering what this will eventually fetch.

These may get suddenly expensive, right?
>>
>>32564816
most modern DMRs are going to be select fire and therefore not cheap or easily attainable by civilian. Just get a quality AR-10

Molot sells some WWII Mosins with scopes and the like for about $700. Image related.

"Genuine WWII 7.62x54R sniper Mosin-Nagant rifle

>Authentic scope & mount
>Matching scope, rifle and bolt serials
>Post WWII arsenal refurbished
>Excellent condition"

They also have this...

"Multi-charge hunting rifle "KO-91/30 M"
in caliber of 7.62x54R with 24" barrel

>Based on the 7.62x54R Mosin-Nagant rifle
>Hammer-forged chrome-lined barrel
>Chrome-lined chamber and bore
>Side rail for a side scope mount"

Idk how the prices are in terms of being competitive or if they are even worth it( I'm not currently a gun owner but have been recently lurking/researching because my neighborhood has become dangerous and I'd like a few firearms( and have some interest in hunting so I am checking out LR too ) and learn how to properly handle/shoot them. Thankfully I have a lot of veteran friends who are offering to teach me the proper shooting, care and handling of firearms but they seemed insistent I do some research on my own first.

With that having been said, what are the big differences between the two rifles above? I'm new to the world of firearms and would love to have some knowledge dropped on me. Link related: http://www.molot-usa.com/index.php/cPath/28/osCsid/bdbcbcfa0620e3b8be37c82ba0a23a08

Luxembourg SVT? I havr an international FFL here in Washington I believe. If I could get an SVT for sub $1000 that would be awesome.
>>
>>32567468
Can't import it if it was originally made in Russia, even if it's coming from another country.
>>
>>32569307
Can't, ATF won't approve. Just surf Gunbroker long enough and you'll find one for that price.
>>
>>32569053
>With that having been said, what are the big differences between the two rifles above
>Genuine WWII 7.62x54R sniper Mosin-Nagant rifle
its from ww2 the scope is from ww2 parts are from ww2 scope mount is only compatible with scope from ww2
>"Multi-charge hunting rifle "KO-91/30 M"
they rebuilt the gun off an old receiver and bolt
the barrel is new and has chrome lining
the scope mount is a side rail making it compatible with ak or svd optics
>>
>>32569705
Thanks for taking the time to explain. I think I understand what you are saying about the scope compatibility but does the re-building mean a lot of improvements or changes? The old receiver and bolt stay the same so I'm guessing the action feels the same as it would in the original WWII Nuggets but do the shortened barrel and chrome lining make any big differences? If so, what are the differences? The only things that jump out at me the gun possibly being lighter/more maneuverable( because of the shorter barrel ) and maybe being less accurate/penetrating less because it has less time to spin from the rifling.
>>
>>32566164
Where the hell can you get 1400 rounds of 7.62x39 for less than $300?
>>
>>32571610
That guy is talking out his ass. 1400 rounds is 300 dollars only if you get an amazing deal on one of the milsurp crates. SKS alone don't go below 350 anymore and if you were to find one at 350 it would be a chinese POS at bargain price.
>>
>>32571610
Here in Canada they sell $1500 for $269
>>
>>32564816

>>
Surplus Mauser's can be had on gun broker for less than 500 all day. Not Germans, but Czech, Yugo's, and turks can be had for that. Czechs are excellent quality.
>>
>>32570754
chrome lining makes a huge difference since most mosins have none and the ammo is corrosive. you have to clean constantly or it will rust. chrome lining eliminates that.
a new barrel will most likely be in better condition than 60-100 year old who the fuck knows what it went through surplus barrel of a gun that was treated like shit.

the only reason to get the first one is for historical reasons
>>
Should i get a k31 or an enfield next? I dont have a strong preferance but i think .303 will be easier to get than gp11
>>
>>32573845
Enfields are almost always shot to hell. K31s never had corrosive ammo issued to them, and are renowned for their accuracy even when compared to modern day rifles. The trigger pull on k31s is heavenly also.

>>
>>32564816
Why don't you just get a savage for like $300? Anything lighter and that can use more accurate ammo will fit that role better.
>>
>>32573888
I figured the k31 would be a better rifle overall, i just dont really want to buy more dies. Im not sure who makes ammo for it currently or how often. I suppose i can always reform some other brass

I guess il take a look around and see if i can find any for a decent price.
Is there any particular reason why us milsurp seems so much more expensive? Only reason i can think is its more popular because im in the us
>>
>>32566225
That's hot
>>
>>32574236
From my knowledge no other brass can be formed into 7.5 Swiss, but PPU makes very affordable ammunition for it, and as far as reloading goes it takes standard .308 projectiles.
But I would recommend the K31 as a surplus rifle DMR.
Pro Tip: standard Mosin rifle stripper clips can be used with the K31, the clips only hold 5 rounds and getting them to function is rather awkward but its possible.

There's only one answer, even though you guys in the USA cannot buy demilitarized surplus other than a couple of M1s and other semi auto US made stuff.

The cheapest milsurp suitable for DMR is the Stgw 57.

It's a pity though, there are a shit ton of these rifles in Switzerland for as low as 300 USD/CHF, you can then buy the DMR kit and make it one of the most accurate battle rifles you can buy. You guys should start pressuring your government to allow importing these rifles, because they risk getting into a shredder due to the EU gun laws.
>>
>>32576136
If only anon, there's a chance of this happening since the NRA is the middle of a pro gun coalition, but considering gow they're a bunch of protectionist niggers, I won't see it happening.

i was thinking about getting a Hakim or these and i cant decide
>>
>>32576136
That looks fucking sick, why can't you Swissbros permanently modify them somehow to be semi-automatic-only and then export them to Canada, everyone would buy them the fuck up, especially if they could be less than a thousand bucks.
>>
>>32578915
Shooting the Hakim is a lot more fun, the gun is cheaper, it has a easily adjustable gas system, and it has a stainless steel gas tube.

But the FN 49 doesn't blast your face with hot gases. And the hakim isn't really compatible with any optics. Just watch out for the 2-piece firing pin.
>>
>>32566164
SKS is great, but not in a DMR role. 7.62x39 out of an SKS will drop like a rock beyond 400 metres.
M14/M1A would be better suited in that role.
