In thinking of buying one as my first AR - is it a good gun?

What is your budget?

Rifle is fine. Good basic carbine from a reputable company. Warning you will contract BRD(Black Rifle Disease). Symptoms include: a safe full of rifles, detent springs in your carpet and an empty bank account.
I got one a few months ago. Its a fine rifle.

This seems like an awesome disease other than eating ramen every night because you spent all your money on gund

with or without optic?

Why a carbine-length gas?
Why not mid?
Why, S&W? Why?
>>32561653
I'm curious to know. Does a shorter gas system cause over-gassing or short stroking? I would imagine over-gassing due to more gas/less distance to travel through the system.
That question aside, I have the M&P Sport original. Awesome rifle. Just bought a PSA upper to throw on there for the extras.

Tell me why middies are better.
Is bretty gud.

less wear maybe, i think most people dont shoot enough for it to matter.
if shooting irons distance between sights is important.
>anything im forgetting? feel free to shit down my neck
>>32561684
Slightly less wear, better reliability, shoots softer
more gucci, also usually doesn't have a FSP so it's more upgrade-able, the FSP is a fucking pain in the ass (huge pain in the ass) to remove
It's not SUPER important, but it's just that extra thing you add on to make it that much more nice.
the sport 2 is a great entry level AR and will serve you well, but I would NEVER pay over 650 for one.

> i think most people dont shoot enough for it to matter
you are correct, my colt was fine
I did end up selling it and replacing it with a much better rifle.

whats most important
>weight
build something from parts.
>cool factor
save another hundred or so and get a DD, BCM
>ruggedness
windham winth bull barrel (caution heavy)
>turning your ar into an SBR
pitol lower + 500 pistol upper
>historical weapon
colt
>>32561131
It's a fantastic budget AR. Everybody should have one.
>>32561574
I built a pretty gud AR pistol for 850
>>32561131
My advice if you don't want to build is buy a smith or do a PSA blem build and get some more stuff to go with it
either way, both are good rifles (I'd trust smith more on customer service tho)

I got one as a cheap first AR and could not be more impressed. Now I use it for 3gun, and the only problem I've had since I bought it was a failure to feed from a shitty mag, once. Shoots really nicely out to at least 300m, I haven't tried it any further. Excellent first AR.

>>32561131
Also, don't paint a gun white. Its cool for the first day, but it will never look clean ever again.
>>32561131
Yeah its really fun.
Buy one right now.
>>32562808
what optic is that if you dont mind me asking?
>>32561305
>tfw lost detent spring
>tfw found it after all hope was lost
Am I part of the club now?
