What size of shot would you use for rabbits?
>>

#6, 5, or 4 depending on the thickness of brush cover
>>

this. 10 gauge is preferable

#7 shot out of a .410, actually. I've got an old Sears catalog bolt-action single-shot .410 (I think a J. Stevens, but the markings have worn off) that my family's been using to hunt wabbits since my great-grandfather was a kid.
>>
>>32556370
Does anyone make a load filled with 00 buck, #6 to fill the gaps, and #12 to fill in the even smaller gaps?
>>
>>32556844
that would be fucking cool, I suppose you could do it your self and seal the top of the shell with wax

No way! We've had this ancient catalog sears and Roebuck double barrel SxS 20 gauge in the family for decades and we've always used 7 1/2 shot for birds and squirrels and rabbits and the like out of that thing. Great little gun
>>
A 3/8" hexnut & a slingshot with a heavy bandset.
>>
>>32556370
Best way to prepare rabbit?

>soak in beer for 48 hours
>put on grill with mustard based rub
>>
>>32556868
I fucking love my milsurp, but there's something to be said for those old dirt-cheap mail order shotguns. Many Americans have learned to shoot and hunt with those things, going back well into the Great Depression. And as basic as they are, they still work just fine for what they were made to do.

My aunt would just toss them on the pan, but I saw this neat video of making rabbit stew.
>>
3 and a half inch magnum slugs
>>
>>32556370
Why use a shotgun over a small bore rifle in the first place?
>>
>>32557553
Because rabbits are fucking fast and I'd rather have birdshot for that than a single .22LR bullet.
>>
>>32557567
I have never had any issue, just gotta wait.
>>
>>32557346
It'll kill AND cook them at the same time!
>>
I go with #5 for phesants and rabbits.
As long as you go for the head you will be fine.
>>
>>32556370
7 1/2 field shells
>>
>>32556370
#5 shot is the most universal for rabbits being chased by hounds. it isnt so large as to destroy a bunny on close shots and retains enough energy to penetrate the skull at longer ranges.
>>
>>32556844
yes, or at least something similar look up buffered shotgun loads
>>
>>32556370
I'm not a hunter so forgive me if I sound like a newfag, but if you're using a shotgun to hunt something, wouldn't you have to dig all the individual pellets out of the meat?
>>
>>32556897
So true. Despite what I have in the safe, my fav shotgun for just walking around and exploring new hunting areas is a single shot break barrel 20ga.
>>
>>32560844
Yes. This is why I exclusively hunt squirrel with a .22
>>
>>32556370
for food, 7.5 or 8 non-lead

for removal of pests, whatever I have lying around, probably the $4.50 a box 7.5/8 I can get at walmart

Even if you miss your shot. You'll burn the rabbit and his forest.
>>
If you have a good shot opportunity I would recommend just get some 6-8shot in a 12 gauge, I would use 7.5shot dove loads.

If your having trouble with brush just go for either 3 or 4 shot or heavy loads like intended for goose or turkey.

That's called a shooter's sandwich. Goes back to fancy pants hunting parties. The traditional ingredients are:
the bread,
the steak,
onion and mushroom mix (chop it how you like),
your favorite horseradish and mustard mix,
and pate (it's being substituted by the cheese in that image).
The squishing is necessary because it's bulky as fuck otherwise.
>>
>>32563452

Thanks. I'll have to try that. Worst case scenario, I end up spraying my feet with pellets and blood.
>>
>>32556370
Good lord just use Seven shot. Rabbits dont get thick winter hides like a late season pheasant.
>>
>>32563452
Can't wait to see new dags coming back crying about blood and organs and pellets of shit coating their backsides
>>
I would go with #6 pr #7. Make sure you have a full or turkey choke.

Blank shell and cleaning rod, with a brick affixed to one end of the rod.
