Was wondering if anyone could help me with this question. I just got my stamp back for my 762 specwar suppressor and want to put it on my Scar 17s. Looking around I see people saying to use a washer first before using shims because of the size of the shoulder on the barrel. The shim kit that came with the Specwar does not have a washer on in and looking around on the silencerco website I don't see kind of washer kit on there. Does the washer needed for it need to be some special kind or could it be something I grab from westlake?

A lot of it has to do with the fact that I have a hard time justifying a $1000+ scope because I don't really have that much land to shoot on. I can get maybe 250 yards at most and its not like I'm planning on going to battle and need something that will be fine with getting thrown around. For my purposes this scope works just fine.

5 spare mags is a fair amount, I think. 120 rounds in total. For rifle ammo that's likely only going to be shot in semi-auto only, I imagine it would last quite some time. Also, 6 20-rnd mags in total is going to weigh about 9lb I figure, just about as much as the rifle, so I'd say that's sufficient. Ammo/firearm loadouts is best kept within 18lb. If you're going up to 20lb, then you best be expecting some shit to go down otherwise it's just going to suck to lug around (along with all your other gear of course). If you're exceeding 20lb in just firearm/accessories/ammo alone, then it's excessive unless you're in an Army and you're a support gunner or something.

For standard rifleman, you really shouldn't be going up to 20lb+ unless you're REALLY going overboard on the ammo, which in most cases is probably unnecessary unless it's some kind of fucked up situation where "There's only so many of you, we're sending you in to defend a point that will soon be brought to front line because the enemy is really pushing us back, and you might not get backup. Take however much ammo you can carry, and anticipate your barrels to get quite toasty in short time."

Though keep in mind I'm just a civi, so this might all be bullshit, but still, if your rifle and ammo is adding up to over 20lb, then you've either got a fuckload of ammo, or your gear is just REALLY fucking heavy. Like you got an STG-44 or something, which probably comes to 20lb with only 4-5 mags in total. If early AK-47 mags were nearly 2lb, I'm inclined to believe that STG-44 mags were likewise around that heavy.

It's basically a historical piece at this point, still being fielded only because it would cost money to replace it and the few nations using them are poor as shit and/or don't actually fight at all.

The FAL is not practical by any metric. There's no real reason to use it in a combat situation unless you are piss broke but happen to already have a FAL. Sure it's "viable" in that it works but it's not a realistic alternative to any of the lighter, cheaper, more accurate rifles of the modern era.

It will put a 7.62x51 round into a man-sized target at any reasonable combat range, has reasonably light recoil for its chambering, and usually weighs less than a comparable M14. Are there better options? Definitely. But the FAL will still work just as well in most conceivable situations, especially given modern rail options and whatnot.

Hell, from a civvie standpoint, a big, beefy battle rifle like the FAL is arguably superior, because you're not concerned with automatic fire anyway. Might as well make those individual shots count. As to whether you want an FAL, HK91, M1A, AR-10, etc. for that purpose is another debate.

Sure, it's not as high-speed, low-drag as, say, a free floated AR, a SCAR, etc. But for shooting guerrillas, arming a poorer army, or surviving an SHTF scenario, the FAL is plenty competent.

At the end of the day, the important thing is that your rifle puts bullets where they need to be, when you need it to. As long as you have that, everything else is just fine tuning.

I'm not denying that either. I'm just pointing out that, in the grand scheme of things, the advantage you get from, say a tactical SCAR 17 compared to a beat-to-hell Rhodie FAL is fairly minimal. Eithet will kill you just as dead, work just as reliably, and shoot almost as straight. You're better off investing time and money into other things.

If you're starting fresh, yeah, an FAL is suboptimal. But if it's what you've got, it's still perfectly viable.

A FALs only disadvantages will be that it is a bit heavier, shitty for mounting optics on, and depending on configuration longer than a modern rifle.

In a fight with 10 guys armed with FALs and 10 guys armed with mk18s/m4s/SCAR17s, in affecting who wins the fight which weapon they had probably is ranked below 3.) how well they were led and 22.) how well each group slept the night before.

Its not "viable over" more common rifles but it is still quite viable.

Is 6.5 Creedmoor one of those internet memes or a viable replacement for 7.62 real fuckin' NATO? With lower recoil and lighter cartridges it seem like it could make battle rifles relevant in certain situations, and that long range supersonic leaves little to be desired on the DMR front. Yet... I hear nothing about it from anyone but deer hunters and your automatic rifle options are build an AR10 or go fuck yourself all the way to a gunsmith. What am I missing here?
