It has to do with cylinder gas sealing. Unless you're doing that strange grip people used for pistols with stock, you're gonna burn a lot.

The only way around is to use Nagant-style gas seal with those weird cartridges and so on but the problem is - no serially produced revolver but Nagant used it

Or use a Gas shield like literally everyone else. Problem was by the time everything got worked out in terms of metallic cartridges needed to assuage fears of chain fires (something that a Gas shield could possibly have caused but not really likely if proper sized balls and lube were used) superior and easier to manufacture lever actions became avaliable so they were scrapped.
