I have a matching parts 1916 that was used. But yeah I wish I grabbed a no.4 cause of that aperture sight. The 1916s have some rough fucking rear sights.

>Dad's friend has buddy who died. Wife needs to liquidate his collection. Has list of guns, we set up a time and go over. Initially just went to get a k31 for 300.
>Arrive, no k31 left. However fuck huge Lee Enfield collection. Literally 1 of every single model from Jungle carbine back.
>Most have not been appraised so they were not selling. See Irish contract but think it will be pricey so i only put my name down on a beater SMLE.
>Call back months later, guns have been appraised.
>go in. see Irish contract. Look at price tag....$300.
>Immediately buy, tag said barrel was rough. Cleaned it out and it is good as new. Also got strap, bayonet and 50 rounds of 303 for 40 bucks. So all of that our the door for about 350.
>tfw score of a life time.

Yeah it is unfortunate. Honestly i really like notch sights sometimes but these are just vastly superior. Its basically what K31fags pay 400 for with the aperture sights but built into the rifle

There are no 33 inch long slings. They were all over 40 inches and are roughly the same size. That you're reading is that it's 33 inches long when attached to the rifle. A 33 inch sling would be too small for you to carry it as it was designed, across the back.

Russians go for about that price. I see Norincos going for between 400-600. Yugos are the only "cheap" ones left around 400.

Ah ok, I was confused because some sites were selling both type 38 and type 38 carbine slings, and then I saw some carbine slings listed as 33", so I figured that was the difference, but I guess it was just autistic item descriptions. Thanks.

Was just gonna ask what a good price is for them. I'm completely new to milsurp and I was looking at some K31 prices in the $450+ range.

How'd you find it?

Local auction here in Oregon. Bunch of rednecks had no idea what it was so I think I got it for much lower then what people are asking. After further inspection it seems to be a very well taken care of rifle and has all matching parts which these usually do. I'll take some pictures tomorrow when it's sunny out.

What do you all think would be a better pick for babby's first milsurp between these?
Yugo 24/47 for $300, Lithgow Mk3 Jungle Carbine for $350, or a Norinco SKS for $400-450?
>>
>>32564588
The first two are pretty inaccurate rifles. I would get the SKS if you want to practice your aim.
>>
>>32564706
Is it just the machining and short barrels that make the first two inaccurate? And is $400-450 a fair price for an SKS?
>>
>>32564720
I've just shot a few yugo and other cheap Mausers like Chilean/Spanish, and also seem videos of them. They usually lean on the more inaccurate side of milsurp. Jungle carbines are known to have wondering zeros because of cuts made into the barrel to make them lighter, that is if they aren't fakes. Fakes are everywhere for those and would probably be worse. SKS have chrome lined barrels(except yugo sks), and usually shoot pretty well up to 300 yards, plus the ammo is very cheap.
>>
>>32564720
Follow-up on this, a guy in my area's selling an SKS, sling, case, and 800 rounds of 7.62x39 for $500. Is that a good deal?
>>
>>32564791
If the gun is in good condition this is a great deal. 7.62 sells for at least 25 cents a round and sometimes higher. The sling and the case are probably worth about 25$ and most SKSs are going for 400-500 atm.

Is there a nagant of acceptably poor quality that i would be able to obrez without really feeling bad about? i have a hex with matching serials i dont want to use but i did find a mismatched, poor condition, "spanish civil war" mosin that seems dingy enough to appreciate the facelift. is a spanish civil war rifle any kind of collectible or are they the bottom rung mosins?

Shitty quickies incoming so I don't leave y'all hanging. It's missing the cleaning rod, but the bore is perfect, the numbers all match. Only problem I've run into is the rear sight won't fold all the way forward for the 300 yard battle sight. There is an 18 stamped at the side of barrel shank, so I'm assuming its from 1918, but I'm not sure yet. The action screws are stuck in place, I sprayed a little WD40 on them to try to get them unstuck but I dunno if that'll work (was careful not to get any on the stock)

Got around to taking the picture. The butt end of the stock is chewed up quite a bit, but people say it's extremely common for them to be like that. I checked every part and cleaned the bore, it appears to be in very good matching condition. No one told me how wonderful the trigger would be on these things, it easily beats out a lot of modern rifles I have used, and is by far the best trigger I have ever felt on any milsurp rifle. This is one of the earlier models made out of walnut instead of beechwood too which adds a little bit of value. The serial number says it was made in 1934, just one year after the first batch came out. After looking at gunbroker and armslist, it seems I got this one at half the going price, since it came to $300 plus the ten dollar background check. Now I just pray that some GP11 gets imported.

If there's an 'E' stamped on the tip of the receiver it had the chamber lengthened for 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer.
I had an M91 and fired 6.5 Carcano through it and thought I had headspace issues, turns out I was shooting the wrong ammo and fire forming ball rounds which isn't ideal.

Went on holiday in Italy this past Christmas to visit some family. They have a place near some small towns just north of Rome. Every month they have one large antique market and it just so happened to be going on while I was there, so I decided to check it out. Found pic related along with a converted m18 helmet with ear cut-outs and SS decals, but only had enough cash for one, so got this motherfucker for 155 eur. I'm quite new to milsurp, so I hope I made a good deal. What do you think?

I am planning to get my family in Italy to buy the other helmet next month for me and hold on to it until I visit them again and can pay them back. The other helmet was in about the same condition

Oops, didn't see that. IDK what's it worth down under, but at this point it's really a shooter since it has little historical value left. It would be possible to put it back in military spec but the cost of the parts in your country might be more than the rifle.
>>

It'd just be a shooter. I could get the rifle, the stamp duty, and 100 rounds of 30-06 for about $500.
For comparison, a Mosin Nagant 91/30 is about $450. A Gen 4 G17 is about $1000. A Howa 1500 is $600

and its a matching gun? my hungarian is my second smoothest nugget (ive owned 6 or 7).

sounds like the headspace problem on my 71/84 which has a mixed bolt.

get some dry erase marker, slop it on there, and work the bolt once or twice and try to identify the points of friction....a little buffering with a metal polisher could fix it, but first try swapping a known good nugget bolt and see if maybe the issue is the receiver.

Go buy a box and take yous out, they are fun to shoot. You don't need 349 rounds like I will soon have, an opportunity presented itself to get a bunch of brass and I took it, a 50 round box will still be fun enough. 50 rounds is all I have for my Type 26.

I hope your wallet is deep enough to afford one of those.

Tbh, I've always wanted a "Baby" Nambu, but those are even worse. Well, maybe not a Tashio dated Type 14.

Oh, and if you don't already have Derby and Brown's book on Japanese handguns you'll probably want it before getting that heavily involved with them.

I just picked up a bayonet for my Turk 93'. it locks in fairly well but it has a lot of slop. Not like it's about to fall off or anything, i can't pull it off. but it has some real noticeable left-to-right wiggle to it.
My question, Is this normal? can it be fixed?
Also, WHY THE FUCK DID IT GO FROM SHORTS WEATHER TO PARKA.
>>
>>32589825
its kinda normal. some of them you can tighten or replace the grips, some have loose metal bits that are prob going to always be loose....its a Turk so its not really worth fucking with....maybe squirt some gorilla glue underneath the wood to keep the metal from rattling around.....but its a $10-20 bayonet, so w/e

That's typical of bayonets. They were meant to be "interchangeable," but in reality not always were they so interchangeable. A group of soldiers would get a number of bayonets and they would try them on and find ones that fit their rifle the best. And then you have some countries that were autistic enough, like Germany (it's always the fucking Germans), that went to the trouble to number a bayonet to a particular rifle. That just made things more complicated than it's worth.

And a loose bayonet is better than a tight one. I almost poked my eye out trying to get a tight bayonet off once.

That's just what happens with 80-year-old bayonets; their latching mechanisms get worn and loose from much stabby and the lugs get rounded down by countless bayonet mountings and refurbishments; it all depends on how much use they saw. For example: my Turk M35 bayonet is super-loose on my M98/37 rifle but tight as a tick on my Spanish M1893.

How are they $1,200 now? The last I saw was around $800 a few months ago.

I can actually see paying more for one of the rarer variations, like the PSE or the one of the few that were made in 7.62NATO.

the finish and scrubbed receiver, its not penned out like the RCs (and has front sight hood). and still has waffenamt barrel band

notice the plum colored extractor and bolt retaining bar. just like on the commie post war refurbs.

Poland had a bunch they reworked post war, and its also what the seller and local experts tagged it as - no evidence to the contrary. definitely not french. LGS owner is top french arms expert in the western hemisphere, he would not have overlooked it if it was one of the french refurbs.
>>
>>32595448
Post a pic of the top of the receiver. I also agree the sling bar looks French.
>>
>>32595479
yea you guys are right its not squared off like the normal polish ones.

top of the receiver is just polished black metal. totally clean - same as my Wz 29. Only marking is the serial number on the side, no inspection stamps.
>>
>>32595107
>>32595479
>>32595596

So i consulted the bible (robert ball's book)....

The french ones (most of them) had a hex stacking bar instead of a bayonet lug - this one doesnt

they also had screws through the stock retaining both barrel bands - this one doesnt

annnnnd they had a hole in the bottom of the cupped buttplate for firing pin disassembly -- this one doesnt

the blanked out receiver matches my Wz 29. If I get time later I will take a side by side.

Those are only features of the rifles manufactured by Mauser Werke while it was occupied by the French; they are a result of the transition to Kreigsmodell: no bayonet lug, screw-retained barrel bands, hole in buttplate for firing pin tip. The French had thousands of existing Kar.98k (and older German rifle models) that were not fitted with these features, whose only mark of French use is the sling bar in the butt.

>the blanked out receiver matches my Wz 29
You mean it has the handguard-retaining lip on the forward upper edge of the receiver ring?
