Best drug in the world and the high never gets old. The closest thing I've found in the civi world was working a season on a crab boat in the Bering sea. A lot of danger and adrenaline to be had there, but it still doesn't compare to the rush you get when bullets are whizzing past you within inches and you can feel the distortion in air pressure as they pass by, knowing that someone is actively trying to kill you. You experience a wider range of emotions in a 5-10 year firefight than you do in 5-10 years of normal living. It's a fucking ride.

I talked to an army recruiter and the only contract they were giving out for prior service 03XXs was special forces. I almost did it but i opted for school/partying instead. We turned a gutted VBIED into our daily driver on Leatherneck. Basically it got stopped at the front gate before it could do any damage. Months later, they call our section (a Motor T Platoon apart of an infantry battalion,) and asked us if we were interested.

Long story short after letting a bomb dog make sure it was 100% clear, we fixed it up, reupholstered it with hadji blankets and had a decent ride. It was a right side, manual tranny. We called it the Talivan.

The most jury rigged part was the starter. We wired it to a button on the dash (real high tech.) The button however was a two position switch for the wipers so you had to press it on to run the starter and then remember to press it again to turn it off. Even still the starter burned out so we would have to push start the damn thing.

Civvies werent too happy since it wasnt properly tagged, but they can suck my left nut.

Being mechanically inclined has its benefits.

Bagram, 2010. Toyota shuttle bus breaks down on the flight line. Civilian firm that owned it abandons it, and eventually leaves. I use Sunday to repair it.
