Need help buying my first handgun.
Is a Beretta 92FS a decent choice for the money?
I'm fine with it being 9MM, and I'm not looking to concealed carry.
>>
M9A1 has a rail
>>
>>32542140
any major brand name and model is fine, its just down to options and features which is subjective

If you don't plan on conceal & carry, yes. Some people can pull off C&C with a full-size, most apparently cannot.

It's worth its price. I paid somewhere around $550 for mine

i do it, not that hard

M9's are fantastic first time guns. A full metal gun in 9mm means tame recoil. For some reason, M9's in my experience have less recoil compared to other all metal fullsizes like the 226 and they're incredibly reliable and accurate to boot.

A good video on the M9.

I'm quite sure the M9A1 has dovetail sights.
>>
>>32542140
Berettas are good for the money. Also keep in mind that you can get a CZ 75b or CZ 75 omega for around the same price/a bit less expensive.

>>32542207
Thanks for all the info, m8.

CZ a shit

Get a 92FS, they are great. Get at least one facory 30rd mag, they work flawlessly.
>>
>>32542187
You do it, I can probably do it myself, but not everyone is able to. 92 is a lot of gun for what it is.

Why CZ and not Beretta

>better ergonomics
>better controls (not a retarded slide mounted safety/decocker)
>my slide riding inside the frame helping somehow (a meme I don't buy into personally)
>option of steel frame (without paying $10,000 like what whatever the hell model Beretta has)
>same great reliability/build quality, but lower price (can be had new for $450 online)

Right. State of mind in charge of body size, shape and how it either works or does not work with Beretta 92's.

Literally only a bitching point if you have the thumb of a 4-year-old.

Unsure how a thumb is going to keep you from accidentally engaging the safety while working the slide

I did that once, the first fucking day I had the gun.

Haven't done it since. Imagine that.

>>
>>32542486
Yeah, god forbid anybody do any weapons training.
>>
>>32542462
It's...actually rather hard to do that.

Plus, just get an M9A3.
>>
>>32542560
You're only allowed to be partially weapons trained here
>>
>>32542195
>Is the rail the only difference between the two?
The M9A1 has a beveled mag well and comes with a captive spring/rod assembly which makes field stripping a lot easier (but you can get this for $20 in the aftermarket). Also the grip pattern on the front and back strap is a little different between the two.

If I were you, I'd just get a 92A1 over the other two you mentioned. It has more features.

>>32542207
>I'm quite sure the M9A1 has dovetail sights.
It doesn't. the sights are fixed.
>>
>>32542504

Then your other handguns must be complete garbage
>>
>>32542962

>Is a Beretta 92FS a decent choice for the money?

Yes. But I recommend holding one before buying and making sure that you're comfortable with the controls. A lot of the complaints about the gun are mainly the grip being too fat, can't reach the safety, can't reach the slide release/catch, it's too heavy, DA trigger is too uncomfortable, keep bumping safety off, can't get used to the DA/SA transition. Most gripes are from people with small manlet hands which is a fair because the gun doesn't suit their stature while other issues can be overcome with training, but if you're not willing to put in the effort, then its a lost cause.

A Glock 19 with an XC1 is as if you don't have a light on it. 200 lumens, 1.6 ounces with batteries and it's really no excuse not to have a weaponlight.

The controls aren't as good as an X300 or TLR1's rockers because Surefire is dumb.
>>
92's are OK but I'd never buy one because I'm a milfag and carried one every day for a few deployments. Glocks are objectively better all around pistols but the safety and durability are good things to have for beginners. You can beat the shit out of an M9 similar to how you can an AK. They are good guns, I just personally doubt I'd ever buy one unless it was some smoking deal to use as trade bait. Awful guns to conceal though.
>>
>>32543187
its a bitch to have anything with a light thats not a glock since holster availability is so bad
>>
>>32543280
Any reputable custom holster manufacturer can make you a holster for any common gun with any common light.
>>
>>32542207

This. I rented a number of different handguns before I bought my 92FS, and I was most accurate by far with the Beretta. It's also a gorgeous gun, easy to feed, and hard to break.
>>
>>32543417

here. I should add that I have slightly large hands, and the 92FS is a perfect fit for me.
>>
The 92 family of guns are great, unless you have super tiny babby hands that makes one hand control manipulation a bitch (you might be able to disengage it, but won't be able to engage it again).

Doesn't really matter if it's going to be for sporting purposes though.

Beretta trivia: they actually put the slide on the frame for the full-auto version, the 93R.

That said, I've fired thousands of rounds through my 92FS and never engaged the safety by accident.

safety* on the frame. Fuck.

Because it's select fire.

>>32543445
The original 92 had it on the frame as well.
>>
>>32542140
I got a 92s (yes old 70's plebs edition) best hand gun I've ever shot. Better than every 1911. It's cheap to shoot and more fun. Also it is literal sex to shoot.

Well if you plan on relying on a BB gun to protect you sure but I'd suggest a Ruger SUPER REDHAWK ALASKAN chamber in 454 Casull if you want to be serious.

> Side mounted safety

Who fucking cares, this is only an issue on the internet

> steel frame

Literally nothing wrong with an aluminum frame. Do you want a steel AR15 lower?

> reliability / build quality

Reliability is debatable, not like Berettas or CZs have much issue with that and whenever they do its almost always magazine problems. But build quality? Really? Even a nice CZ is covered in tool marks and doesn't look nearly as nicely made.
