Why didn't the US use it instead of the M1903 Springfield in WW1?

+semi-automatic
+5-10 round box magazine
+not a shitty bolt-action

We won the war anyways. If we had standardized on that garbage we'd never have had Garands for WWII.
>>
>>32539167
we did win but why wasn't it adopted before the war in the first place? it seems like the superior rifle
>>
>>32539158
it was probably a lot more expensive, and some generals were still against common troops being able to shoot rapidly. they believed in marksmanship above all else and that a rapid fire gun would take away from that and just waste ammo
>>
>>32539158
Why don't you go back to playing Battlefield 1 and find out faggot?

A lot of early semi rifles were really complicated, which is a bad thing when you put them in the hands of grunts. Not only are they more likely to fuck something up or lose a little part when field stripping, but it also means your armorers have more workload and have to keep more parts in the supply chain to keep the guns going.

I'm not sure how well the '07 handled the muck of the Western Front, either. Many early semis and autos struggled badly there, but there's not much info on how the '07s performed in French hands.

The '07 also used a non-standard cartridge and was more like a pistol caliber carbine in performance than a rifle, and this was an era where the brass still insisted on guns that were effective out to 1km+.

This might be a good thing to ask Ian about, if we've got any of his patreons around here.

I just wanted to talk about the actual weapons but if you want a BF1 thread that's okay too
>>
>>32539158
It was never designed to be a military rifle you fucking dolt. Have you ever field stripped a short or long recoil action semi-auto. its hottest load was still half as powerful as 30.06. look up 351 Winchester.
>>
>>32539270
If you want a fucking dolt you should ask my friend I'm trying to explain this to
>>
>>32539158
>why didn't we force our troops to have an effective range of only 50 yards
do you really want an answer to that?
>>
>>32539304
Follow-up then. How well would it fare in urban combat? My friend thinks it's perfect for the timeframe for that scenario
>>
>>32539319
your "friend" is a moron quit wasting /k/'s time. Your're the reason opchan calls this place kinder/k/

>The '07 also used a non-standard cartridge and was more like a pistol caliber carbine in performance than a rifle

The 32 yeah, but the 351 and 401 weren't fucking around. All they would have had to do was shave a little bullet weight and they would easily be in intermediate range
>>
>>32539393
So continue to stay the fuck off then if you don't actually want to be constructive.

>>32539421
You would have more luck searching for its use by police officers honestly.
>>
[HIGH PITCH AUTISTIC SCREECHING]
>>
>>32539319
It's a gun, it doesn't care where you're shooting it.
>>
>>32539319
That's an unacceptable trade off for a standard issue rifle. They didn't issue different weapons when troops entered a city.
