Crosses the line into pure milsurp. GQ threads are theoretically for gear that gets used somehow, not meticulously packed and kept historical looking.
>>
>>32535551
¿Que? I go to the range with my A1 all of the time, I'm also getting into Reenacting so the gear will be used to some extent. Plus the OP wanted Vietnam era US gear so I figured I'd oblige, cunt.
>>
>>32535597

So wearing uniforms and going on mock patrols is not using the gear "somehow"? I'd love to see that fag with the bullet proof face protector using his gear in any practical manner.
>>
>>32535689
You're a touchy guy. I'm not being a dick here. Your gear is historical and it is spotless, like never been worn outside spotless. It includes a lot of things with no practical value, but which are there solely for reenactment purposes. It is setup for historical reasons not personal use reasons.

I'm not being a dick, I'm just trying to point you to a more appropriate thread. The line blurring between GQ, airsoft crap, and reenactment is killing threads when it all gets mashed together. Separate but equal threads exist for separate subjects.

>>
>>32535793
Not mad, just sad this board has become fully overtaken by airsoft, milsim, and reenactment. Not even that those are bad things, but you have whole threads for them.

Way, way back in the day people used to post into proto/GQ/ type threads about gear they were actually interested in taking into deployment and combat.
>>
>>32535793
I prefer not to engage with nonsense.

On to gear stuff. Anyone have thoughts on light-bearing holsters for m9a1s? I prefer tension retention, but I have used a hooded holster for so long that it would not be a hardship to have one again. Light will be either a tlr-1 or x300.

The Safari land 3084 might be a good place to start. They are made for the m9a1s frame, but since they really index on the slide it should accommodate your 92a1 alright. They are able to accommodate various lights/lasers if that matters to you.

>>32539593
Depends what GPS network you're on (Pro hint: There's more than one).

Civvie ones aren't on the atomic clock, they update every day or so, but do compensate for relativity so they're rarely more than a second off.

The point to a watch over a GPS is that it's on your fucking wrist and any good watch would take years to run out of battery.

>>
>>32540055
Block 2 F satellites are the only GPS satellites used period. There are no other satellites. There are 32 of them and you'll always see at least 7 (sometimes 5 every ~30 years over Northern Canada iirc, 6 every few in some spots just due to irregularities in earth wobbles).

The networks by which you access these GPS satellites is always different. Iirc there are around 5. Two are purely military, one is aviation only, one in civilian, and one is backup.

They all provide different information, but when your GPS requests a time update (unless you do it manually) a GPS satellite network if civilian will only update you every 12 hours (thought it was 24, my b) whereas any other active network will update as is.

Idk specifics about GLONASS so you'd have to ask an Ivan.

Euro satellites carry two clocks that will correct each other since they only have 18 and it makes it a lot harder to correct for Doppler shift at high speeds with half the antennae.

Yep, haven't gone and shot with it yet, but I played around with it some. The pouch flaps are velcroed in so you can adjust the mfor different mags which is nice. The top part folds down if you don't need it into the admin pouch that is inside the entire bottom. The back holds a plate as well, haven't tested if it'll hold large, but I will soon. It's really comfy though, I'm excited to try it out.

Doesn't the GPS signal always carry a date/time? How else would the receiver calculate distance?

>>
>>32540343

>>32540379
I'm not entirly sure, all you need to calculate speed is a position update over time. As far as I knew to lighten network traffic it would use the GPS's internal clocks (which is why they're always pretty good) and then it would rx a position update an from there it was pretty simple. Granted this was a paper from the 90's in one of my classes that we read about signals n stuff.

Nowaday's I'd imagine it would so I could be wrong but I'm only going off what I know. I know for sure ANY Gps you buy that isn't "Changs back alley 100% premium discount GPS's" will have a top notch clock in it.

Also in the 90's GPS had a hard time doing elevation accurately, fun fact. So usually the numbers it was telling you were ~1-10m off.

For the record distance is only a displacement vector of two position updates, time not included.

ALSO a fun fact another reason there are different GPS networks is that certain networks have altitude and speed limits on calculations. Military networks are obviously not limited, Idk about aviation, but civvie networks have a lot of limitations and sometimes spotty coverage (even though there are 7 fucking satellites above you)

That's not how they work. First of all, there is no "network traffic". The device you have is a receiver. It doesn't transmit anything. The satellites transmits towards the earth, and there is no limit to the number of receivers, just like a dumb FM radio.

It calculates the time it takes for the signal to travel from the satellite to itself. By using the distance from 3 satellites, it triangulates its own XYZ coordinate. To measure this time, it doesn't use its own clock (which would be a shitty estimate, since light travels at 300 000km/s), it uses the satellites internal atomic clock time, which is synchronized between all satellites.

By having a 4th satellite, time becomes a variable in your 4 variable system (x,y,z,t) and you can solve.

The GPS signal contains time, which is extremely accurate. Having a GPS basically means you have an atomic clock in your wrist.

Do you guys feed their sling through their PC shoulder pads or leave it separate?
It's probably worse to attach it the the plate carrier but it's so much simpler and /comfy/.
>>
>>32535822
Well compared to 10 years ago almost no one is deploying so there's that.
>>
>>32546080
I wear shirts with collars so the sling doesn't rub my neck raw. I want to be able to pull the rifle off and and on or adjust how I have it slung. So having the sling attached to my PC makes no sense for my needs
>>
>>32546080
>Do you guys feed their sling through their PC shoulder pads or leave it separate?

What in the goddamn world? Short of people hooking DIY 1-points to their armor, I've never heard of anybody doing this, ever.
>>
>>32546155
>>32546177
I basically copied this
https://youtu.be/lGAvTuJDtME?t=1m24s

It's comfy and you can just unclip your rifle when you actually want to use it. I'd also imagine a longer sling length on the gun side would allow you to shoulder it as well while it's clipped in but mine's fairly short.

>>32546197

>>32546197
Ok, so I don't normally get all NavySEAL copypasta about myself, but multiple tour combat vet talking here:

Just get an adjustable on the fly 2-point sling (VTAC, Vickers, Blueforce gear, whatever). It Does everything a 1-point does and more. This one-point setup is clunky and not versatile.
>>
>>32546227
>This one-point setup is clunky and not versatile.
I used a two point sling to anchor into the molle on the back of the PC so I can just take it out and use it as a regular 2-point sling.

But other than forcing an extremely short length of pull what's wrong with this specifically?
>>
>>32546000
Zephyrs are compliant as far as I know. I have no interest in them being goretex. >>32546043
Garmont is pretty popular in my unit. They had sine production issues (factory caught fire), but that should be sorted out by now.

My concerns with summer boots are that they be fast drying and have decent arch support. I have some gnarly plantar fasciitis, and being a medic in a light infantry company gives me no time to sit around.
>>
>>32546197
That in my opinion is fucking retarded. Single point slings are shit for long duration. I have a quick adjustable sling that can also be switched between 1and 2point by clipping the ad cup into itself.

I never use single point. I can use a2point to brace
The gun on my support arm as I grip it providing a more stable shooting position.

I can quickly remove the gun or sling it in a way that does not impede my movement. I can run, climb over walls, climb ladders,t transition to my pistol, and sit in a vehicle. All without having to unclip my sling

>>32546278
point taken
>>
>>32546245

You are unable to push the rifle onto your side or back on the fly. This makes it more difficult to do anything which requires both your hands. For most people that rifle hanging directly in front of them will hit their thighs while running.

You can't easily carry the rifle without having your armor on. Yes, I know you can unbuckle it and take it out of the straps, but that kind of thing gets old very quickly.

This kind of sling setup provides also no use while carrying a rifle for a long period of time.

Let us look at the supposed advantages of a 1-point: You can swap shoulders with it. Great. You can swap shoulders with an adjustable 2-point sling as well. So no real advantage. Second supposed advantage: Comfort. 1-point slings set up normall will pull on your neck and feel uncomfortable. I'm sure to you, this padding solution feels like an improvement. But a proper adjustable 2-point sling has padding and feels comfortable as well. AND it hangs on your shoulders, not your neck, which is a lot better for your body.

I'm not here to argue though, people do what they want. Listen to me or listen to a video where he uses the term "real steel" unironically.

>>32546197
>instead of putting weight on my shoulders I put it on my back

It's not something I autistically screech about, just personal preference. I don't like personal medical kits with zippers because I find them more time consuming and finicky to open, and in any situation where you are using them your IQ and hand-eye coordination are likely to be gone to shit.

Again, just preference. I mentioned the zipper because I would have wanted that kit for myself until I saw it. I actually have a few medical kits with zippers, but they are larger dedicated aid bags where I'd be focusing on them and not worrying about applying self-aid (and personal medical kits on gear should always be usable for self aid. Can't rely on always having buddies around.)

Interesting AmeriCom rig. It looks neat, though at the point of getting MOLLE and M81 I'd have just gotten a RACK style vest.

Do you guys know exactly the test procedure for level III rating?
Do you guys know if those dyneema or polyethylene plates that are rated level III also stop M855 and M193? Or are they like AR500 level III where they don't stop M193?

Nogear here, getting my first stuff. I don't really know what is and isn't ultra high tier, but I know what brands are and aren't shit.

This is an eagle industries piece, but I don't know what model it is. Is worth the hundred the seller is asking? I'm looking for a decent carrier now, as I already pieced together components for cheap that were sold in lots of random shit, taking the good item, and selling/donating the shitkit.

Already got a pair of peltor liberators for $100 that came with a POS condor vest the seller deployed with. God bless the poor bastard. I scrapped the vest, but I'm just left with some earpro and a set of minty fresh ESAPI plates I got from an estate sale for $150, so I'm torn between grabbing this for $100 or spending more to get a lot that had an complete (meaning groin protector and etc, not with plates) and a new tactical tailor malice pack V3 for $350 total.

How the fuck do you carry water while hunting?
I don't want to take an entire backpack just to carry 1-2L of water, but I don't think a belt can support 1-2L of water without suspenders and possibly a belt pad (which looks LARPy as fuck for hunting)

>>32553538
I don't know, call me old school, but I wince at the thought of plastic frames on packs, no matter what they do to improve it. The molle packs might be fantastic, but I'm hesitant to try them.

>>32553555
I keep one or two jerry cans of water at my main deer stand, and just use an Alice frame with a custom (more hefty) shelf attachment to haul them out there, one at a time.

If I want to take less water and want to have room for other supplies, I have a heavily modified small Alice bag that slips over the top of the frame like a normal one, but only extends about half way down the length where it clips into some grooves I cut into the flat cross member that supports the frame. I just attach a normal shelf and throw one of those half-height jerry cans on it and strap it into some webbing I have hanging from the pack-part of the system.

tl:dr If you can, store water on location in larger quantities than you'll need for one hunt in a safe container. You'll save weight on 3/4 or more trips by not having to take water out with you.

The rigger belt (pic related), is a belt on it's own, and can be worn as per a normal belt.
It CAN be worn OVER the under belt (which has hook velcro on it), rather than through belt loops (as per a normal belt).

I like this design, as it can be worn as a normal belt, but still has MOLLE on it to put on pouches. I daresay you could squeeze the belt through normal belt loops, even with pouches on (if they were small enough). Otherwise you could just remove/re-attach them.

Plz try to remember, it's not Gruppa99 at least and I don´t think the "mainstream" companies like Splav and SSO have tried it.
