URGH IM CONFLICTED
I was going to buy a legit Russian AK parts kit this month.

But, then I found a sight with Polish RPD kits, complete with a pre ban barrel. Theyre double the price though so itd be another month and a more expensive build. I can really only justify one.

For AKs i only have a norinco which is cool i guess, but not OG Russian.

Nobody is importing SKS anymore, so while quantity demanded hasn't changed or has risen the quantity supplied had dropped off entirely. This is also why nuggets are expensive now.

As for AKs the recent gun ban scares have driven up pice as quantity demanded rose quickly while quantity supplied lagged behind.

The opposite is why you see ARs for cheap nowadays. AR parts are crafted in America while the AK parts need to be imported and then put together. After a while of production the AR quantity supplied caught up to the AR quantity demanded. But the AK quantity supplied is still lagging.

Yay archives:

Seems to be an ode to a rifle, can't make out some of it

Sara...

Tough, fantastic
<?>romisticna (can't tell word)

Reliable, fair
Sometimes evil.

Attractive when you have her
Bloody when you don't

Not modest when you celebrate
Or when you fight

Ready to negotiate
<?> for laughing

When she talks
She speaks of death

My Sara rescues
In lifeless dreams

I love you Sara
Because you prevent evil

Reposting for further help.

I am debating on buying either an AR or an AK for my first rifle.

Any pros or cons for owning either?

I would primarily using this for Home Defense, Hog, and Deer hunting, and casual target practice.

I believe my budget will be about 550, unless I just slowly, and I mean really slowly continue to save up.

What budget brands are trustworthy? Any brands I should avoid at all costs?

Aside from, Gunbroker, Classicfirearms, and Gunsamerica, Slickguns, any other good sites for AKs??

I have a local pawnshop selling a used Yugo M70 N-PAP AK Rifle by Zastava Arms, Gen II with thumbhole for 540. Is this a good or bad buy?

I was told to check if it's single or double stacked, what are the pros and cons to these, and do I want it in Single or Double? Apparently they are made in Double.

A good budget setup is the Yugo M92 PAP, made in Serbia. I bought mine before the election.

$500 out the door, $15 for the muzzle brake and $120 for the brace that actually is supposed to be for the Galil Ace.

Never had a single problem and I'm accurate out to 80-90 yards on irons. I do recommend filing the irons with a Dremel or a rounded file as it really opens up your sight picture without ruining accuracy.

Nice m8, my Bulgy zigzag is what I currently have on my rifle. I ALMOST bought another long collar a few days back but decided at the last minute that I didn't want to spend the money on it right now (hard decision) and then someone else bought it.

I feel an addiction to buying Russian 74 brakes growing inside me but I'm trying to repress it because I don't want it to turn into my mag addiction.

Probably, it too was $65 on the files

The thing with brakes is that I don't really need more than one of each because they aren't going to all be used like magazines are, but that doesn't change that I want them. I've limited my mag buying habits to only buy if it's something that I truly want, not just buying cheap deals when they pop up, and I'm still working on that with everything else I want to buy for my AKs.

I simultaneously love and hate collecting. I sold all of my milsurp guns minus my Garand (about a dozen) because they just sat in the safe and I never shot them and wanted to whittle my firearms down to the ones I actually shoot, but now that focus on collecting milsurp has shifted to collecting AK74 parts and accessories and that's even more expensive than milsurp because it's "oh this mag/part is only $30 I'll buy it" x 500 and it adds up

Why does everyone want a 105 when the 104 is so much better ballistic wise? 5;45 does better in full length barrels IIRC

>>32538882
I only have the 2A soft stuff, it's like 600+ after shipping if you go for 6GOST plates and I didn't have that type of cash

I bought the protectors separately so I think it was a touch over 300 after shipping? You can probably get it for a bit cheaper than that without granite/ceramics

>Why does everyone want a 105 when the 104 is so much better ballistic wise? 5;45 does better in full length barrels IIRC
Because you're wrong. No Arsenal rifle would make a good AK-74M/100 series rifle, anyway.

And yea they definitely look used. But still, for mags that are 90 dollars here, not bad

Wish I had more cash to buy personal stuff right now, I'd just send this dude to the flea market with a shopping list

Does anyone know where I could get Yugo furniture? I'll be buying an M90 soon but every one I find for sale has ugly black furniture which I think doesn't suit the Zastavas.

If I decide to go full Nutnfancy and duracoat it, I'm thinking of going for dull bakelite orange or Olive Drab. Does anyone have alternatives to suggest?
>>
If I was to get a "starter" AK, would I be better off with a WASR or an NPAP?

Or if I was to spend a little bit more money, would a Vepr or Arsenal be better? I'm really happy with the quality of my Vepr-12, would their rifles be of similar quality?

I still don't get the "starter" AK concept. I hear this shit all the time, about "starter AKs" and how your first AK should almost always be in 7.62. It's like people think you're on fucking training wheels or some shit and then you like "outgrow" a rifle and then upgrade, then possibly to another caliber as well. Your first rifle purchase should be based on a number of things, firstly being how much you want to spend, and a close second followed by what cartridge you want. If for some reason you can get 5.45 easily close to you, or you have an AR and already stack .223/5.56, there's no reason for you not to consider going that route if it means that you'll be able to shoot it more. If you like your VEPR 12, you won't get that same quality in a WASR, not that it will be bad but it just isn't as nice in terms of finish and overall quality and appearance. If you can somehow find one on the secondhand market for less than $600, then you should definitely consider one, but if you have $1000-$2000 to spend on initial purchase for rifle, mags and possibly ammo, I'd shoot straight off for a VEPR or Arsenal. I love my WASR, don't get me wrong, but I do regret somewhat not starting off with a nice MAK90 or Maadi from the second hand market when the prices were more reasonable.

I don't get the "starter gun" concept at all. It's inevitably a waste of money.
If you want a wasr with the very classic ak47 look, then buy a wasr. But if you are buying a wasr as a starter gun with any intent of going up to an arsenal or something more expensive, you just threw away hundreds of bucks on something you were never going to love.

Still doesn't make sense. In fact, it's the opposite. A WASR is arguably the bottom rung on the ladder in terms of appearance and finish. Arsenal is definitely high tier and it's not really that far fetched to imagine someone wanting an AK, and not being completely happy with the overall quality of a WASR but really loving an SLR-107 or a Polytech Legend. These aren't cars where you buy them and have buyer's remorse and lose 20-30% of the value as soon as you take it home. If you get an Arsenal and you fucking hate it, chances are you'd have hated all AKs, and someone this year could have done exactly that, and sold the used rifle at a $300+ markup right now. These aren't ARs, and their value will gradually go up in time, not down.
>>
>>32543200
I think in this case it's mostly people saying this because the AK is a very different platform than the AR. It's really not something everyone is going to love, and a lot of "what's a good AK" guys are just looking to add an AK - any AK - to their collection so they can say "yeah I have an AK." For those people, the WASR is the perfect "first" AK.

If they like the platform, great, it's a reliable gun that'll serve them well for a long time but doesn't cost so much that they'll feel bad for using it as a beater or a truck gun while they move up to kit builds or Arsenals to wring more performance out of a higher quality gun. If they don't like AKs that much, they're not out that much money and the gun isn't liable to blow up in anyone's face whenever it does get taken to the range.

That said, I do think "starter gun" is a bit misleading here. It's not a "starter gun" that will grow with you in the same way that an AR built on an Anderson or Aero lower can become something much, much more with sufficient time and effort. The WASR is more of a "casual shooter" AK, for the guy who only kinda cares about guns and doesn't feel like dealing with proprietary parts, reduced ammo availability, or uncommon mags. Whenever people come here asking for "starter" AKs, 9 times out of 10, that's the person we're making recommendations for.

I guess I just can't imagine the idea of not getting what you want the first time. Does anyone here actually just buy a weapon retail at MSRP without shooting a rental or a friend's first before getting one? It's like buying a car without a test drive. Maybe I have a different mindset as well, I can't see hating a gun after a purchase unless it's IO-tier and shits the bed and/or almost kills me while using it. As I said earlier, these aren't cars where you lose money after a purchase, unless your LGS fucked you up the ass, or you got an AR which never hold their value unless it's a Colt or Noveske or something of that caliber. Theoretically with inflation and as certain rifles are discontinued or no longer imported, your AK, FAL, M1A, etc should all go up in value enough for you to trade up, sell for profit or break even in the future. FFS, I put my WASR up on Backpage for 800+ in September/October for shits and giggles and was actually getting offers close to that and decent trade offers, and I had spent 620 out the door for it only months prior.

>TL;DR Keep your guns
>>
WASR is love, WASR is life

My first AK was WASR for $450 used.
2nd AK was a PSAK that I'm currently trying to sell for more than I bought it. Might just use the money to get the GB2.
>>
>>32543887
>Does anyone here actually just buy a weapon retail at MSRP without shooting a rental or a friend's first before getting one?
I did it twice this past year, though not at MSRP, because >election. Bought a CZ Scorpion EVO 3 and a PTR-91 A3R because I always wanted both and figured I could sell them for a solid profit if there ever was a ban and I hated them both for some bizarre reason. Did my research beforehand though, so I knew I wouldn't.

That said, I 100% agree with you. I'm the guy who is currently $2100 and two years deep into an Izzy AKS-74N build that should be coming home this month. I wanted an "Afghan" AK in 2014 and dug my personal rabbit hole deeper and deeper until a Waffen Werks wouldn't cut it, nor would an Arsenal SGL, despite both being readily available at the time. But, that's me, and I wanted this specific AK for very specific historical reasons, so even if I find shooting AKs isn't for me, this is an investment that will grow in value far more than any WASR or Arsenal, and it'll be an heirloom that I intend to keep in my family forever.

Most people aren't that autistic, and when they come in here asking about "starter" AKs, nor are they even aware of the existence of AK-74s, AK-100 series rifles, or even the AKM as a replacement for the AK-47. When they ask about "starter" AKs, all it really means is "what's an AK-47 that's cheap and won't blow up in my face when I go shoot it once a year, because I want to have an AK-47 just because I think AK-47s are cool." Answer to that is currently WASR, and it probably will be for some time to come.

Not him but what's wrong with having one dedicated gun that you throw behind the seat of your truck whenever you're going camping, fishing, mudding, out in the woods to cut firewood, or anything else that is that involves your truck and you don't want to carry your gun in a case? When I do any of those activities my truck gun gets banged around and therefor ends up getting scratched. I don't want to throw my Arsenal back behind the seat, so I throw my WASR back there. It gets banged to fuck and looks like shit and I don't care because it still works and it only cost me around $500.
Truck gun. It's my truck gun. Deal with it.

I didn't know that your definition of a truck gun is one you leave in your truck at all times. That is stupid and I would never do that.
I consider my WASR my truck gun for the reasons I've made abundantly clear already. The area behind my seat in my truck is painted metal and nothing else, so anything back there is going to get banged around. I don't care if my WASR gets banged around.
