>the best part is that most people don't believe they did it
>third 'russian reset' incoming because people are too retarded to see what Russia is doing

>Spicer-Simson was a man described by Giles Foden as "a man court-martialled for wrecking his own ships, an inveterate liar and a wearer of skirts."[13] He had reached the rank of lieutenant-commander but had not progressed further owing to a number of mistakes and disasters, which left him in a small office in the Admiralty assigned to helping with the process of transferring merchant seamen into the navy. In 1905, he had come up with the idea of stringing a cable between two destroyers to sweep for periscopes and nearly sank a submarine.[14] He ran another ship aground while testing the defences of Portsmouth Harbour, and later collided with and sank a small boat, killing a man.[14] By the outbreak of war, he was in command of HMS Niger and a small flotilla at Ramsgate. He went ashore to entertain guests at a nearby hotel, from whose windows he watched Niger being torpedoed and sunk

It's less a "greatest" and more a "classic" but during one of the many, many wars in China's warring states period an alleged descendant of Sun Tzu named Sun Pin made one of his enemies think he had less than half the army he started out with then fooled said enemy into reading a shitpost about how he would die under a tree before springing an ambush and killing everybody, after which said enemy committed suicide under the tree.

I did a three post long series on it once in more detail but I don't feel like doing that again.

So many people miss the point. Russia is not a threat to the US. Russia is a threat to long term US interests and the current world order.

Russia wants to isolate certain European countries from the rest of Europe and "the west". Best way to do that is a resurgence of isolationism and nationalism in important western countries.

Russia also wants an end to the US dominated way of managing international relations. Thats why it was important for Putin to intervene in Syria and embarrass the Obama administration.

If you're looking at the situation as people making out that Russia is an existential threat to the US then you're unintentionally perpetuating what amounts to strawman arguments.

>Ordered the front gates to be opened while he sat atop them playing a Guqin (Chinese string instrument)

The destabilization of Europe presents a problem to our economy in the short term and instability in the long term. We don't want Russia to gain power - doing so comes at a direct loss to us and our European allies. Furthermore, the whole point of Putin's plan is to foster nationalist groups hostile to one another so they won't work together.

It's not just the end of NATO, it's the resumption of arms wars and nationalistic dick waving that we've worked so hard to stamp out since World War II.

But hey, what do I know? We've only been predicting this for over a decade. Now it's a partisan issue. Better throw all fucking logic out the window because the monkey I like says it's wrong!

The world economy is connected. If russia fails, many minor countries that are allied with it will also show signs of failing and eventually lead to china. If china fails then shit will go down.

economically, I think the US could survive if china fails, but not the whole of the east.
>>

>Sure they could steamroll the south in a matter of weeks.

>>
>>32540560
The economy relies on other nations to work. When we sneezed during the recession, the rest of the world went into a depression. You don't build your own car do you? Are you your own doctor? No, of course not. It's not practical to do everything yourself - you trade with others in your community.

Now think of that on a much bigger level: what happens when the grocery store closes?

You go hungry.

Even if you've got food stocked up, other people will starve. But people don't starve, they steal and fight over what little they can get. Desperate people do desperate things. Look at the pirates off the coast of Somalia: they're not doing it for fun.

>If russia fails, many minor countries that are allied with it will also show signs of failing and eventually lead to china.
It won't lead to China because China will eat those failing countries up and sweep them under Xi's coat.

China and Russia are competitors far more than either of them are with the US or the West in general. They basically compete for the 'best friends of any tyrant with cash or minerals' award.

If Russia's proxy states failed, China would pick them up like a housewife at the supermarket bargain bin.

Their failure would make China stronger, not weaker.

Probably not the best but one I remember, Battle of Suiyang
>He ordered his troops to shoot weeds, instead of arrows, at a few enemy soldiers. When these soldiers noticed that they were being shot by weeds, hence were not killed, they were overjoyed. They promptly ran to Yin Ziqi to report that the Tang army had already run out of arrows. Zhang Xun noticed where the soldiers ran and ordered his best archers to shoot at Yin Ziqi. One such arrow hit Yin Ziqi in his left eye, throwing the Yan army instantly into chaos. The siege ended with the expected major blow to the Yan morale.

>The bigger the trick and older the trick, the easier it is to pull. Based on two principles. They think it can't be that old and they think it can't be that big, for so many people to have fallen for it

Lying to a whole country is a big trick and an old trick. But everyone believe it can't be that big and it can't be that obvious because so many people couldn't have fallen for it, right?

>Eventually, when the opponent is challenged or questioned, it means the victim's investment and thus his intelligence is questioned.No-one can accept that, not even to themselves

Anon is not an idiot, anon supported Trump, therefore supporting Trump must have been the right thing to do.
The logic cannot be questioned.

It's an example of cognitive dissonance. The harder you push, the greater the evidence, the greater the required denial to maintain the subject's ego.

Cannae wasn't a trick, it was strategy and tactics.

It involved careful reading of terrain and troop capabilities and the persona of enemy leadership. There was no deception in Cannae though; just a bad general vs a very good one.

Varro had access to the same information as Hannibal (more or less) but didn't use it as well, or at all.

Its an important part of WW2
I suppose you are American so dont know much about what the other allies did.

The British spy rings have some amazing stories
North Africa campaign and Italy has some good stuff too.

Whats really funny are the ways Britain convinced Hitler that we didnt have RADAR or that we were intending to invade Norway

If you happen to have a nerve agent autoinjector on you and recognize the symptoms quickly, you could fairly easily survive a lethal dose. The idea is to live long enough to get to a hospital that can help prevent damage and keep your heart and lungs operating while your CNS has a flashlight rave. Not that atropine and Co. is also fun to have in your body.

actually, the strategy Varro and Paulus had taken made a little bit of sense, they were expecting Hannibal to push them against the river and envelop them against that natural barrier instead of actually stretching his troops that absurdly thin, which fit better with the pattern he had given throughout his Italian campaign.

the Roman formation was supposed to bulldoze the fuck out of the Carthaginians and stretch them to the point of breaking, but Hannibal's personal commmand of the gaul center made it happen.

Because having the Benny Hill song as your own personal theme song is frowned upon by commanders anymore. Also, OSHA, UCMJ, and the rest of the ridiculous rules and regulations have ensured that allowing folks to just wing it and see what happens is virtually impossible anymore. Everything must be risk-managed, focus-grouped and calculated to take the human element out of the equation.
>>
>>32547233
Yes they did lie. Their main source of intel was an iraqi civil engineer who made up all the shit about wmds. And they knew it was bullshit too because the german and british intelligence services already told the americans that this guy is a hoax simply talking bullshit for the money.

No one is convinced and I don't think they care.

I went to a gangbang party once, four women, about twenty guys. Had a good time.

Afterwards we're talking about swingers etc and it turns out that nearly half the people there were ex-military and ever service was represented in some way. It was kind of surprising to me but they weren't surprised, they all said that the forces were basically big swinger communities with anyone who lives on or near base getting in on the action.
>>
>>32546615
>You're right, we should have elected...
But that's not what we're talking about anon. We're talking about how rather than admit any faults in your candidate (because that would be admitting a fault in your judgement), you collapse into hysterics.

So you fall into this polarised view whereby your candidate must be a saint and the opponent a devil. Then you defend it with hysterical and increasingly ludicrous shitposting.

It didn't actually do that until Dubya&Co. all but outright ORDERED them to.

And we're already seeing the sae kind of thing coming from Trump now, where's he's openly denigrating intelligence briefings that don't tell him what he wants to hear and is threatening to purge the agencies of people who won't give him briefings he likes.

Perhaps not the best, but a pretty fun one overall:

>Philipp of Macedon BTFO's the greeks harder than anything in their history.
>Sparta wasn't present, but they're shitting bricks after watching their old rival Thebes getting stomped flat wit ludicrous ease.
>Philipp tells the Spartans that there'll be consequences if he marches on their city.
>Answer: "If."

MInd you, this was long after the zenith of Sparta's power and they knew fully well that they were basically just bullshitting the Macedonians by banking on both their reputation as warrioers and for being straight-forward and unsubtle. But it worked out in the end and Philipp left them their independence.

No, they did not. At least not at first. The White House simply selectively ignored anything they reported that didn't fit what Bush&Co. wanted to hear and then threatened people's careers unless they presented better intelligence.

For all intents and purposes, the White House ordered the CIA to lie to them.

Something that doesn't happen until there's alread shells in the air. Being able to eventually take down the nork artillery isn't enough to prevent mass casualties in Seoul. And that's before we add ballistic missiles and chemical weapons into the equation.

Happened to the Allies repeatedly, too. Hell, the Luftwaffe had a dedicated squadron (KG 200) flying captured machines exactly for these kinds of shenanigans on top of pulling similar stunts against night-bombing raids.

Dead civilians usefully absorb explosives better used on military targets. Consider for example if the ordnance used on German cities in WWII had been concentrated on POL, manufacturing, rail, Luftwaffe bases, and other more useful targets but with enough dropped on German cities to divert German resources to defend them,

Korea rebuilt itself once. It could recover from partial destruction of Seoul.

This was a bit different in that this operation was done with an assortment of Junkers Ju 88s, Dornier Do 17s and Bristol Blenheims and not captured Russian planes. One would have thought that strange looking planes with big swastikas painted on the side would have made Russians suspicious but apparently not.
