You need to work on your OC persona OP.

Its very important that when people see you OC you convey a presence of power and authority. If you're OCing a revolver then clearly you're going to need a cowboy hat, the bigger the better, boots are clearly a must and if you've got the commitment spurs. If you're OCing a pistol then I recommend dressing in all black, with a full length black duster and a matching fedora. If you're going with a long arm then you should reassure everyone buy dressing in full tacticool gear, body armor, helmet, a ballistic mask with a skull face painted on it, the whole nine yards.

And remember when you're OCing to pronounce the fact loudly when you enter a building by shouting "I've got a gun!" this will reassure everyone present that you are there to protect them.

I'm an armed security guard and outside of work I don't carry a shield.

I figure if I need to use my firearm off the clock in like an active shooter situation where I may need a shield for identification I'll be just as well off telling bystanders "I am an armed security guard, listen to me!"

In my experience if there is a panic and someone identifies themself an official role or capacity people will listen to them purely because otherwise they would not know what to do so having someone give them instructions who has assumed command presence is just as good as a piece of tin.

It's quicker than flashing a badge and doesn't take a second hand. Furthermore these CC and security guard badges have 0 authority and make you look like a tool if you just carry one for shits and gigs.

People who open carry are actually making it better for the rest of the american people since the public and police will have to accept the fact that guns are legal and people have the right to carry them.

I hate to hear "I don't open carry because I don't want to get into trouble". People who do it sometimes get in trouble but eventually the public and police will just have to accept the fact that it is the right of american people to do so and generation after generation will see guns less and less scary since people actually open carry them in public in plain view.

I myself live in Finland. We lost our right to carry in 1998. Nobody even protested. It just happened. Kinda like in Britain (see NRA's magazine America's 1st Freedom article "Total Surrender - No one took gun rights from the british. They just let them face away. by Charles C.W. Cooke page 32). Open carry was legal but everybody CCW'd because it was thought to be bad PR to open carry and people thought it was "showing off".

Today you can't even transport your legal and licensed gun without a gun bag to hide the firearm. All the guns have to be 100% hidden where ever you are transporting them. And unloaded. If your gun is in your vehicle then even the gun bag has to be covered up. Sometimes people call the cops on you just for having a gun bag because guns are so scary to the general population here. You don't see firearms anywhere in public places. Except the cops open carry their Walther pistols. But that is it.

Just get a gun with a safety so you can actually reholster it. If you have to shoot someone put your gun away and retreat to a safe area and call police. Tell them where the person that was shot is and where you are. Don't be an idiot standing there with a gun, if we get a call for a shots fire and you're standing there with a gun you're getting proned out, one false move equals death in that scenario. If your hands are free you can approach the officer, keeping a reasonable distance because you're about to tell him you have a gun on you, then follow instructions after that. Just DO NOT have it in your hand ffs, so much can be misinterpreted based on the nature of the call and the circumstances when we arrive.
