I posted an article last thread saying he got off on the charges. The pendulum is swinging the other way, I highly doubt there will be pushback against legal gun owners defending themselves.
>>
How long does it usually take for restricted guns to transfer over to your name? I bought my first one on Thursday and want to know
>>

God damn I hope so, he doesn't deserve that kind of punishment for what he did. I have some moral issues with shooting runners but he wasn't exactly in the best state of mind for judging risk. He shouldn't be thrown into jail for that long.
>>
>>32510274
He got off the first conviction, but he does have to go to trial again. Still wasn't the smartest for him to shoot at the retards once they started to run away, but I'm not super against him for doing it.

>“In my view, it was open to the jury, on that evidence alone, to find that the appellant could not have reasonably believed the force he used was his only means of protecting himself.”

Who gives a shit if it was his ONLY means of protecting himself? He could protect himself with a butter knife if he had no better option. Saying "Well, you had other, less effective means of defending yourself, so you should use those because guns are bad, m'kay" is not fucking fair to the guy who had half a dozen people kicking in his door holding weapons.

(Guy in last thread hating on Ontario gun owners)

Not that guy, but Ontarian here.
This Province is a bizarre mix of awful and awesome.
Like the universe saw that we were suffering so they threw us a bone.

-province controlled by libshit hellhole cities and yuppie as fuck cottage country
+rural Ontario based as fuck.
-police here are jackbooted thugs
+CFO is abnormally lax. No armour laws, relaxed storage regulations
-very few ranges
+range membership restriction removed from R ownership.

We're all over the place. Had to move to Taranna from Lakefield area for work 10 years ago. Upside is I met a cool /k/ newfie chick and married her. Downside is, this place saps the life out of ya, and you have to become a goddamn ninja to own guns. I smuggle mine out of the condo under cover of darkness, in musical instrument cases.
>>
I have a question for you lads.
What's the most dangerous part of your province whether it be ghetto or tundra?
>>
So I have an 858. I'm thinking of buying an SKS but do they shoot similarly?
>>
>>32512321
It's really ery not actually so something. It's not very close.
>>
>>32510390

If you buy from a store it takes a day or two. If you buy from someone else it depends on the province. Back in August I transferred to someone in Alberta and it took less than 5 days. I transferred another gun to someone in Ontario and it took a month.
>>
>>32512347

K. How does it shoot at 100 meters?
>>
>>32512383
Depends on what quality you bought at first really. I've been using a Yugo PAP family hand me down since my day of birth and i've maintained it and shit. It shoots fine at 100 meters as far as I know.

When are my fellow Ottawafags going out to larose forest next? Only crown land I know of is 2hrs out, and I'm itching to magdump my Vz since I got the feedramp polished.
>>
>>32513136

Is this a known issue?
>>
>>32513167
No, not stock anyway. I've got a post 2014 vz58 in 7.62x39, and it feeds flawlessly from stock mags, but if I load more than 5 or 6 in XCR mags with the adapter, the rounds catch on a small lip just in front of the feed ramp. It's not every time, but it was enough that I wanted to handle it.

the entire province of NB is kind of a ghetto but we sort of don't really have much dindu violence. Most dangerous you could be is like, cheering for the wrong team at a sports bar in Saint John or on the Nord shore. We had some serial beatings in Fredericton like 5 years ago, but not really a problem unless you're not-native walking through the reserve.

Moncton had a shooting spree recently

You forgot Uniacke Square.

The north end isn't so bad though, it's really just a few parts of it, and the more they gentrify it the better things will gradually become. I chuckle at the why and way that's happening to. Instead of expanding somewhere else since it's out of room, the South End has just decided to absorb the rest of the peninsula.

How do transactions over private sales on CGN happen? I've only ever dealt with ebay where I've never been scammed and ebay for the most part oversees that the delivery happens after payment and that the buyer doesn't backcharge his transaction upon receiving the item.

Is it just an online bank transfer (is that what everyone means by EMT?)? How can I be sure that the seller actually mailed me the gun? How can I be sure the buyer doesn't backcharge the money they transferred? I've only done local transactions, but I want to know how to do an online/long distance one in case a good deal comes up on the EE.

Thanks!
>>
>>32521380
You send the person money via email money transfer (EMT) and then they send it to you in the mail. Make sure you ask them for a couple of pictures of the firearm so you don't get scammed

Uniacke Square isn't that bad any more. It has its reputation from the 70s and 80s before the Halifax Regional Police decided to plop their Central Division Headquarters down right next to it.

I hear people talking about how they are gentrifying North End, but two years ago I walked down Gottingen at 3 PM and was asked if I wanted to buy drugs by two different guys, solicited by one prostitute, and followed by a sketchy homeless dude for three blocks. All in the span of 15 mins.

Packing grease and oil can interfere with the function of firearms, you did the right thing. Usually it won't matter for new guns but it is always a good idea to clean it anyway. If nothing else it will familiarize you with the internals.

As /newguns/ is there some sort of tribal factionalism in Canada's gun community that I accidentally forgot to into?

Both times I've purchased a firearm so far the guy selling me the gun had a stick up his ass, and I tried to inquire in person about a gun range membership today and the guy told me he was sold out of memberships (obvious bullshit; was sending me passive-aggressive vibes the second I walked in the door). Although after reading up reviews of his range apparently a lot of people get the experience that he only really caters to richfags who will drop as much money as possible for as little work on his part as possible.
>>
>>32526108
Some ranges are just like that, don't have time for anybody other than old fudds or some other group
>>
>>32526108

I've had my RPAL since I was 18 and there have been multiple times I've gone into gun stores to buy a firearm and the sales worker has walked right past me to ask my father if he needed anything. He doesn't even have a PAL but they make the assumption that because he is an old guy over the age of 50 that he is the one there to make a purchase. It pisses me off to no end and it instantly makes me want to no longer buy anything from that business.

On a similar note, I once applied to a "Better Buy Sports" while I was in university and the worker faxing my resume to the head office looked at my resume and scoffed: "Why does a Bachelor of Arts student have an RPAL?" (I was studying psychology at the time).

This is the same guy that once told my friend and I that SKSes weren't able to be imported into Canada anymore because of trade embargoes against Ukraine. Which is entirely untrue since economic sanctions were placed against Russia not Ukraine.

Old guys working behind gun counters are known for being old fudds with little understanding of how things actually work but buy into that "with age comes wisdom bullshit". Try to find a young sales worker, they tend to be less stuffy and standoffish.

lol my buddy just recently moved from gottingen. His apartment was above a bodega, the tenant next door was professionally homeless, parked his shopping cart full of hobo stuff in the hall. His place got bed bugs because of crazy hobo guy. Buddy stopped sleeping in the master bedroom because it shared a wall with crazy hobo guy who would scream and holler all night.

Kept telling him to move out but the place was understandably dirt cheap to rent, and he was spending everything he got trying to pay off student loans.

Other than that it's great. On the heavy side but it's my bench queen/range toy so I don't mind. 308 is my favorite rifle round to shoot and I love how the Garand action works.

>but them being chinese makes me question the quality.
I remember reading something about Norinco essentially making them with the actual original Springfield tooling, so the parts that really matter are of very decent build. Only shoddy parts I've had were the bolt catch and the op rod guide which are easy to switch and are worthwhile upgrades for very cheap.

Also because i move around a lot and if i need to drive through a boarder I want it to be legal.
I did read you can make a long pile gun it just need to be registered.
No idea if that's true, saw a video on you tube dude made a single shot shot gun with a nice hammer trigger system and a stock.
If i Owen a gun its because I made it.
Its cool being able to make weapons and thats a hobby I want to do.
I'm going to buy a file and something to cut metal and I'm making gladiuss and machetes.
Maybe make a spear and a bow?

Decided to do a quick teardown to get a better eye on what I'm looking at in terms of rubbing the cosmoline all over my body found some interesting things.

Like things I've never seen on youtube sks videos:

The magazine pin appears to be part of the follower instead of being driven into the bottom of the mag. (The mag, the only part with a different serial number, appears to be a later piece (Gun is nH5**, mag is nH8**) .

And the bolt is blued instead of chromed.

All of the blueing other than on the bolt and gas cylinder is basically immaculate (the bolt has some tiny scuffs along the contact points probably from me fucking around with it and the gas cylinder had the serial number engraved on the underside where it didn't get much cosmoline, and the engraving grew a bit of rust as a result) . That coupled with the fact that you can carve a turkey with the rifling would suggest that this one has never seen action.

The stock has some knicks and scuffs of course, because shippers are assholes. I would know. I used to be one.

And the cosmoline was used very sparingly (I guess because everything was still nice and blue when it got packed) You can smell it all over the rifle but it's not caked on anywhere. The firing pin moves but doesn't rattle, so that needs to be taken down and cleaned.

The machining on the bolt carrier looks like it was done by some commie using 65 year old tools.

So what should my cosmoline strategy be?
since it's seems like pouring boiling water all over it would be unnecessary torture for the amount that actually needs to go.

(The ammo pouch, oiling bottle, and sling seem to have taken the brunt of the cosmoline)

Was that better buy sport maybe a wholesale sports? Hunting managers across the chain have a department call with the buyer once a month and when the ukraine shit went down the buyer had been told by the vendor that the war MIGHT dry up sks and ammo supplies as they might put them into service. (The vendor was getting lots of their rifles out of the ukraine)

>>32514589
How and where can you shoot there? Could I just go with a couple of semi autos, set up a target, shoot 500-1000 rounds and call it a day? I'm in Ottawa south
>>
>>32535029
No way. I took the first one he handed to me. I proved the gun, shone a light down the barrel to check the rifling,it was good. checked the bluing, molested the action/magazine follower/release/other important mechanicals. peered down into the lower workings to make sure everything was there, And I eyeballed the condition of the stock, finding that it was dinged up just enough to look all battle tested and shit, but in good enough shape to pass.

It was a good gun. So I was like "I like it. I'll take it".

I didn't point it at him and dry fire it or anything stupid like that.
>>
>>32535174
>dry fire it or anything stupid like that

>current year +2
>not asking politely to dry fire a gun once or twice to test the trigger

>>
>>32535196
Sorry, let me 4chanify this story then.

So the fudd hands me the gun and pop in a snap cap He's like
>WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?
And I swivel towards him and the gun follows, so I'm pointing it at him and i'm like
>Relax man I'm just testing this shit.
And then he reaches for the phone and starts dialing 911 and I pull the trigger and it's like "click"
So I'm like
>Fire's nice. I'll take it.
And so I paid him and then he told me to get the fuck out of his store,
>>
>>32535196
If you want to trigger an old man, dry fire anything. Looking down the barrel of most sks's coming out of a crate is a waste of time because of all the cosmoline. Was it a big box store? Some of the smaller stores still do commission and they make nothing on an sks
>>
>>32535312
It was a smaller store. And the barrel feels like it was just lightly greased with cosmo, either way I could see nice well defined rifling inside the barrel. So it was worth the look.

His were already reboxed with the accessories, and the boxes have the tape cut. And as far as commission goes I think it was the owner I was dealing with. My guess if I'm to Sherlock Holmes this shit is he picked up the rifles on the cheap somewhere and was expecting an easy resell until the market cooled down and screwed him over.

That would be a stretch. There's a 0% chance of me bringing it back up in the next bread. I was just surprised that a community that struggles for acceptance in Canada as much as the firearm community would be so riddled with such abject hostility towards young(er) newcomers; when those young newcomers are the only chance it has of surviving.

If anything that would give me a sense of pride and purpose on the job. Like, that's what I hate about my job. It pays great, but it's fucking easy and pointless. If I died the world would be completely unchanged.
>>
>>32538671

This is common in all things, especially old boy's clubs like motosports, shooting, etc.

ESPECIALLY in the maritime, where everyone is fucking ancient.
>>
>>32531706

Remind him that capitalist pig dogs are bigger than deer and the SKS is perfectly capable of taking down those.
>>
>>32531706
I mean they aren't cheap though. Other than the price sticker. They are well built and use good materials. The commies just built way too many of them and because the old system under which they were built collapsed there's no imperative to recover the original manufacturing cost when selling them.

If the SKS was manufactured today, out of the same materials, to the same standards and you were buying it brand new at a big box store it would cost you well over a thousand dollars.

So getting an 800+ dollar discount for some dings on the stock, and some of the parts being reconditioned is a pretty damn good deal.
>>
>>32538671

You need to remember too that a lot of those old fud's behind the counter remember the glory days where you could buy all kinds of shit. Then a guy in his early 20's shot up a university. I had an old guy working under me and he said that "every socially awkward kid could be the next mass shooter forcing us into Australia level shit"

He also hated Muslims, but for Northern Alberta, what can you expect.

I'd also say that of all my regulars, only 3-4 were under 30. most were 40 and above, and had kids who were VERY active shooters.
>>
>>32539036
>Socially awkard shooter who just goes and shoots shit up
Except that none of that never actually happened.

It has literally never happened. In every single case of a mass shooting there is a history of escalating anti-social behaviour that went unaddressed.

The MSM just latches onto the usual narrative but it's 100% of the time complete and utter bullshit.

Like take the Columbine High School shooting for example.

The reality
>They weren't bullied in any unique way.
>They were actually kind of bullies themselves.
>They were both on anti-depressants and seeing a counsellor after being caught breaking into a van.
>One of them had a website wherein he threatened to kill everybody in the school, which the police knew about but never followed up on despite his police record.
>They actually had their own healthily sized clique of friends.
>It was plotted out for a period of more than a year as a bombing. They just started shooting after their bomb failed to go off.

What everybody believes:

>They had no friends and were bullied so they shot everyone to get revenge.

Which is complete horse shit.

James Holmes, actually sought psychiatric treatment and tried to get himself committed before his attack.

Adam Lanza was a literal autist whose mom was a doomsday prepper, and member of some weird religious sect.

Nobody just goes from zero to mass shooting
>>
>>32512212
Fort Mac fag here. Most dangerous thing would probably be getting demolished by some guy in a 3/4 ton who isn't paying attention. People aren't the brightest on the roads here, especially in the winter.
>>
>>32539100

you start with no socially awkward shooters, then say that they exhibit escalating anti-social behavior?

I was just saying that old guys on the counter will usually show bias towards nervous young adults
>>
>>32539415
>Fort Mac burns down in the summer
>Libs cuck you
>Trash finally gets cleared out in the fall
>Everything freezes in the winter and chaos resumes
I feel bad for you.
>>
>>32539596
anti-social behavior = getting into fights, stealing things, vandalism, drug addiction, violence or otherwise troubling behaviour.

Not the same thing as social awkwardness. My point is none of these shooters were the friendless virgin with the big pokemon collection. And yet that's the kid everyone is staring at when you talk about these things.

Like I said; he was literally never the shooter.

They were mostly young adults for starters. They were all known to "the system" because like I said: Nobody goes directly from 0 to school shooting .

And I'm not even awkward or pokemon kid. I even brought a friend along for the ride. And I'm in my 30s, I'm not that young. Yeah, visually I have nerd written all over me, but whatever.

I'm also not stupid. I can pretty much tell you straight up the guy was a self pitying misery bucket who was just looking to drag somebody down with him. And I refused to turn the sunshine off for his sorry ass.
>>
>>32539100
>The MSM just latches onto the usual narrative
More that it follows the disgusting adage, "If it bleeds, it leads", regarding the amount of attention given to stories and how those with violence get more attention than those without. Thankfully they don't report about these fuckers like they used to, which has helped with the issue. Sadly they've merely shifted attention to acts of terror instead.

But yeah, the real issue with these kinds of shooters is generally one of mental health.
>>
>>32540148
>mental health
ding ding ding.
That's why those kinds of shootings happen so often in the US, and rarely anywhere else.

Because a lot of these people do seek psychiatric help prior to going postal. In Canada they actually find it. Just the other day I heard some story about some guy who told his psychiatrist that he was thinking about going on a shooting spree at work, so his psychiatrist told the RCMP and they took away his AK-15s

Now you can argue whether or not that's a little too overbearing for the law, but I'm sure his coworkers are happy with the outcome.
>>
>>32540235
I agree, it's one of those things I'm generally conflicted on as well, because it's something that people shouldn't just be able to impose on you without good cause. I do hope he gets his guns back soon if he is proven to not be a danger to himself or others though. But in that kind of situation, I think it's best to take his own words at face value, especially when it could result in the death of one or more people if they were ignored.

I don't really know how it's viewed in the US, but the way we treat it up here the last several years has made me a lot more comfortable with the admittedly minor shit I've got wrong with my head.

Magazine pin was in the same place on mine, I ordered two.

Both Russian, both Tula, one is a 1950 that had absolutely zero cosmoline on it. Completely rusted internals, severe bore and muzzle pitting, weak rifling. The other is a 1955, extremely rough stock with lots of dings and dents, and surface rust on the barrel and other external components. Internals were good and cosmolined up, rifling and bore seemed good. I returned the first one.

Fuck Cabelas.

I'm just venting my frustration. Actually just became /yesguns/ right before winter hit. Can't get a fucking straight answer from anybody in the hunting/gun community around here about anything at all really.

Like let me run a question by you and tell you how difficult a question this is to give a straight answer to.

"Is X(shooting place) accessible with a smaller vehicle in the winter? And if not where is the best place to park around there to walk?"

Except that's not true. Shit, even the guy who murdered Corporal Nathan Cirillo was a neck-beard loner who would likely have ended up doing the same thing even if he hadn't converted to Islam.

What's your point? Muslims are still in the vast minority of Canadian shooting sprees.

>>32556970
>if I re-write the other's guy's post, I can make it sound as retarded as I am!
He was a mental case, which as we've established is the primary cause shooting sprees. He might not have gone out with the exact same plan, but thinking he would have ended up doing something similar no matter what, is hardly out of the question.
>>
>>32557041
no they're not. the list is almost all gang killings, botched robberies, family murder-suicides and shit from a hundred years ago. for a meaningful comparison you can't include events before mass muslim immigration, and "shooting spree" has to have a stricter definition than multiple death or injury. when people think of a "mass shooting" they think of a polytechnique or columbine event, not some idiot killing his baby because his girlfriend broke up with him

the school shooting up north by a chug with a 12 gauge counts, but I'm sure you have a sensible explanation for that as well.

>He was a mental case
surely that had nothing to do with how he was a halfbreed arab with an absent muslim father.
>>

Also this shit. He picked up his gun in at the check-out desk after getting off the plane, and then apparently fucked into a bathroom (which would be the logical place to assume he loaded the weapon) before he started shooting.

I'm holding my breath anyway because this is exactly the kind of tenuous connection that could be used to fuck us with the Liberals. Though I still think they're going to break that promise like so many others.

He used a Winchester 1894 in the shooting, and I'd bet it hadn't been well taken care of, so I wouldn't be surprised if mechanical failure happened.

Also I think he did fire some more shots at the police who had him cornered in the hall, before Based Vickers got the drop on him.

I'm not denying vickers basedness.

What rubbed me about the whole thing was the media's apparent desperation to sell it as Canada's 9/11 when the guy was clearly an asshole who hated his life and didn't want to go out alone. He was a transient who had recently lost his job. The fact that his father was an allahuackbar seems to just be a coincidence.

When the rcmp finally released his so called "manifesto" video he couldn't sound more apathetic about it. And by mentioning both Iraq and Afghanistan the way he did he is demonstrating kindergarten tier knowledge of mideast geopolitics.

Just got my first sks few days ago and cleaned it of the very little cosmoline it shipped with and I only have one real problem. The cover latch for the magazine is really stuck. >>
>>32567137
Is your trigger group fully clicked back into place? That's probably the least forgiving part about re-assembly. If the release "button" on the trigger group isn't fully clicked back out then you'll have to re-do the mag/trigger reinstall.

It's the metal piece that won't move, even when the trigger assembly is out it takes a ludicrous amount of force to pull it back. I might try taking the trigger assembly apart when I'm home from work. I'm a bit nervous about knocking the pin out with a hammer though. I just got the thing.

in one of those three videos he films his friend (who sounds like a visiting noguns Aussie or Kiwi) shooting his handguns, while himself standing down range like a few steps away from the actual line of fire -- so much so, that his buddy's common sense kicks in and he nervously points it out, which the dude promptly dismisses.
he then repeatedly walks up to his friend from the front essentially making the guy muzzle sweep him with one in the chamber, in order to help him push the slide back into battery "cause it has a weak spring, but it's not a big deal"

There's a knockoff Cabelas in that new shopping complex built by the Tsawwassen ferry terminal that's sort of like that.
Mostly cheesy muh redneck lifestyle shit like realtree hats and browning buck bumper stickers with like a small row in the back with actual firearm stuff.

Being /k/ in Toronto is pretty difficult - I have a Benelli Supernova and a Ruger 10/22 takedown now with the intent of getting into hunting for turkey, small game and eventually large game, but have nowhere to practice. The last time I spent anytime on a range was about 4 years ago and that was with the C7s,C9s and C6s. Can anyone recommend a decent range to join that is within an hour and a half of the city? While I've looked at Silverdale, I don't know about committing to it because the largest range is only 100 m, and i intend to pick up a Tikka T3X in the next few months to prepare for deer hunting, so I feel I need a longer range. If you also know of crown land that can be shot on, that would be great too

• Rimfire is permitted on the first 8 benches (from the left facing downrange) only. Absolutely NO rimfire is to be shot at steel in the bunker.
• Benches to the right of the yellow sign are for shooting at the AR500 steel ONLY.
• No shooting at steel from the benches to the left of the yellow sign.

Serious question. Can you get a licence even if you are bipolar, take meds for it (am stable), and attempted suicide eight years ago but it wasn't on file?
>>
>>32578100
You don't have to disclose an 8 year old suicide attempt but because you've been treated for depression within the last 5 years you will have to disclose that.

That doesn't preclude you from getting a license entirely but it would then be up to you to convince your provinces chief firearms officer that you don't pose a danger to yourself or anybody else.
