Not really. I saw a documentary that there was a Moroccan butcher, a Peruvian law student, a farmer from Madagascar, and a Brazilian who went to France with his mom as a boy and found in the FFL the only chance to stay there legally.

Deployments to the two active warzones, I don't think there's a break down by career field. Found this though, it's total staffing around the world.

not surprised at all almost of those would be desk jobs or logistic work in a base far away from actual combat and the army is full of logistic trades. even when deploying into a warzone actual combat arms are a fraction of the troops deployed. not op but curious to know if the marine combat arms would see more or less combat than the combat arms of the army.

You cant have the kind of back and forth we saw in vietnam in a real modern war, everyone would be dead after having to retake the same territory 2 or 3 times.

In war you are either advancing or retreating. Just dicking around in the same area for years at a time indicates that there is no real war going on, just some kind of fucked up game.

Professional support means massive pushes with coordinated artillery strikes, air strikes, armor... Where were the naval battles?

It was a policing action and not a war because it was not against an even remotely comparable opponent. To be a real war it needs to be against someone of roughly equivalent technology with similar industrial capability able to throw roughly as much stuff at you in roughly equivalent quality as you are at them.

That's not what a real war is. Per US constitution there are Congressional declared wars (balls deep) vs non.

Non-congressional declared wars are meant for 90 days or less. Nothing about what a "real" war is.

Also, POTUS have just avoided Congress since Korea anyways. 90 day limit and we've been in Afghanistan for how long? Just don't 'declare' it a war and you are good to go.
>>
>>32511399
And you are right. What I would consider to be a 'real war' was further back to WW2. A total war, with total US industry and economy devoted towards it, and that wasn't even USA's full might. If it had been in a situation like the USSR, that would have been a 'real war' with total manpower, industry, and economy applied.

Exactly, everything since has been a policing action, not a war.

One handy way to know if its an actual war or not is if you are actually afraid of losing.
