At its most base level, russia cant win a war of aggression, but if the US army attempted to invade russia they would not only fail but it would cause them horrendous casualties. Better and more motivated countries have tried before, and all of them have failed.

Frequently when these bizarre fantasy match ups are opined on by pundits, its almost always a clever-silly argument based on whats on the paper. They never stop to consider real life intangibles, namely that the characteristic of Russia at the moment is one of unity, nationalism and full of vitality as one would expect with a country that has effectively rebuilt itself from the brink of dissolution.

The US on the other hand, has no unity to speak of, nationalism is almost non existent outside of select pockets of the population, and their spirit is almost broken from decades of unpopular and unsuccessful wars, internal social conflict and jadedness and cynicism.
